Is U1 > hp.lunge character specific? Or is it just really hard to time it well?

What are some common frame traps for Yun?

Can anyone explain to me the safe divekick on wakeup that kindevu uses and the distance?
Is it a lk divekick aimed at the top of there head just when they wakeup so you wont be hit?

@JD Inc. If you plink the HP with a lower priority kick, you won’t get EX.
So you can do the following:
HP~MK, or HP~LK - whichever one is better for you.

Does someone know the proper frame data regarding dive kicks? MK dive kick is not always -3 on block, in fact it seems much worse when it hits high. Is it -3 in it’s best case scenario - aka really low?

Everyone on the forums is complaining about Yun’s divekicks being 99% safe because of the frame data, but in training mode most of this divekicks are not safe, and are also a lot worse than -3 / -4.

Is there more in the mook regarding the frame data of the dive kick?

I remember it being posted in one of the threads earlier. It’s -3 if it’s blocked around the waist, and -6 if blocked at the head. Yun can’t use it to pressure nearly as well as Yang who’s -1 if blocked near the head.

It’s just all about where you hit your opponent, the lower the better, I guess you could check how much hit/block stun it does than subtract how many frames for you to land after you hit them and then -4 more for recovery when you land, good luck finding how many frames it is till you touch the ground. I highly doubt it’s -3 in it’s best case scenario, I haven’t tested it or anything but I don’t think chun li super can even punish it. I believe you’re at advantage if you hit them low.

But you should always aim at the lowest point so you get more frame advantage to pressure with anyway.

It’s combo-specific. If you combo into U1 using EX Dash Punch, the second hit of Light Upperkicks, Heavy Shoulder, etc., you can only follow it up with one hit of EX Shoulder.

See the problem is, there are fools like Ben Reed who think that blocked MK dive kicks are barely punishable. They think that all blocked MK dive kicks are -3, which is 100% NOT correct. My question: is it like a scale, so the higher you move up the more frame disadvantage? What is the frame advantage at the ankles? What does the -3 even refer to in the mook?

The reason this is important is how do you best punish yun after an unsafe dive kick? Does it matter if you are crouching or standing? Etc…

Did you see the match of Marn vs Twistedjago? What a joke. Almost all of those cross up MK divekicks were completely unsafe, but the bison player was so busy mashing to escape that he couldn’t get out. He could have just cr.LK into a combo. Those guys on the Bison forums actually think that Yun is 7-3 against Bison because all you have to do is just cross up divekick over and over and there is no defense. Kind of sad that none of them even bother using the training room, but just look at the mook and think it’s -3.

^ I posted my findings somewhere in the Yun forums that Yun is at least +10 on hit with a dive kick to the ankles. I didn’t test on block though.

What does “mook” mean?

When should I use c.mp c.mp s.mp instead of his bnb? I used to do it only as a punish or when I knew 100% that my dk was gonna hit low, but when I watch Yun vids people always seem to use c.mp c.mp s.mp.

I’m still new to competitive fighting games, so I was wondering which of Yun’s moves are best to poke with? also, does he have any moves that eat up fireballs? I thought an EX-lunge punch would go through Ryu’s, but it knocked me back. All I’ve been doing is palming fireballs and shoulder dash, but my timing sucks when doing shoulders.

Depends on the character but standing mp to me seems like the standard poke since it hit confirms safely into hp, back hp target combo for a knockdown. Against characters I want to space even further far st. mk is solid and far hp is passable. lk is a good whiff punish if you’re sure it’s going to hit and can buffer a lunge in there for a knockdown. I don’t know how I feel about cr.mk… I mostly use it as a punish when someone is too far for something but it only has 3 active frames and 14 recovery frames which is relatively poor compared to his other stuff.

For fireballs you answered your own question. If you think your timing sucks on the shoulders, work on it. 2 fireball options are more than many characters. and you get a knockdown or super off of one.

Does yun have ANY Bad matchups

Gief/THawk/Boxer/Fei/other characters that can give his dive kick game a problem and/or zone him out.
