Not only that, I think a correctly timed and spaced Palm could be very useful in stopping him throwing out anything just outside Sims comfort zone (Think Ryu using c.mp to hit sims hp). Overall I think it will be a good matchup.

Baha, I def agree with you on that =). Overall I feel that yun will be better than rufus in this game. The dive kick differences will be an advantage, consider this scenario, yun has 3 angles of dive kick, you make your opponent get used to a meaty dive kick but next time you can use the lk version to stop right in front of the opponent, perfect setup for throw or to block 3 frame reversals. And meter building speed aside, NOONE is going to want to give yun the chance to build genei jin at any speed. Trust me when I say this, noone =). Also, one thing to note is that in 3s when yun used palm, the step back moved his hitbox back. that means opponents who option select will have to think a bit harder about it if they dont want to get counter hit by ex or regular palm after some tricky dive kick pressure. Oh and also, I disagree about dive kick bein the only way in, his shouder move goes under projectiles and the lp version will most definately be safe on block so it is a fast and safe way under a projectile I am positive of this(much like rufus lp snake strike except moving forward). Yun will be a satisfying character for those of us who enjoy rush down but hate dealing with very aggressively down back player types.
The magic is in the active frames. need to fine out how many their are.
Mind linking it?
Some very nice speculation going on here people already thinking how to handle match ups and what not… the fact that yun can lame it out against turtle characters and has numerous ways to get it makes him seem pretty good on paper
Its looking like ultra 1 is going to be the ultra of choice to shut down jump ins and let you build meter for GJ easily… does he have any anti air normals from the looks of it
About anti air normals, I have a feeling his jump rh will be great air to air, also he has jump target combo lp to fp so that means you have a very quick air to air. As far as on the ground I would imagine his standing mk(far) based off 3s gameplay. Also his stand roundhouse will I believe knock back so its good to trade with. Most importantly he has a Dragon punch type move and for the most part you want to play the part of the aggressor. Oh yea, very fast forward dash aswell.
Well hopefully il get to try it saturday mk is jc right if yun gets a jc anti air that would be pretty sick…
Just check some vids his J.RH/HK looks similiar to rufus’s pretty sick.
Im pretty sure most of the people changing mains to yun arent 3rd strike veterans so hopefully he plays similiarly to his 3rd strike rendition so that we get some experts on this…
I hope top yun/yang 3s players get into this would be interesting to watch someone like KO use yun lol
his mk will only jump cancel if its close version, not far.
I play Yun in 3s myself, so I’m really itching to get back to my favorite character.
About normal anti-airs, I could see Yun’s s.mp having the same use as makoto’s s.mp, sucks I wont be able to get my hands on it until Feb when I go to Cali D:

(also ex lunge to ultra 1 confirmed)
EDIT: Looking at this video 0:08 I think his palm can be used like Ryu’s Far Standing Fierce to counter Divekicks (lol)
1:19 AA.
Dive kick also looks vicious against players that don’t have decent AA normals. Yun does not seem to be too much different from 3S. He is one of my favorites in 3S and I want to main him in this game. He may be come extremely popularized once people see the potential he has for closing the distance in a very short period. Even Sim might have a problem keeping him away.
^Rufus is one of Sim’s worst matchups, so naturally a dive kick character will be good against Sim. What makes him even better vs. Sim is his palm, which cancels fireballs, builds meter, and can stuff his long pokes which is something neither Rufus or Cammy can do.
Rufus instant dive is hella good. Yun has a normal dive, but 3 different angles + his gdlk palm. I can’t wait to get to play this dude, I’m hype.
sim can’t even backdash or teleport on wakeup vs Yun with lunge/shoulder OS
I have to say that Ex lunge to ultra 1 was pretty nice. Executing Genei-Jin combos looks like its going to be a lil hard tho. I dunno its just my opinion but we’ll have to see from future videos, but overall Yun looks nice…he looks like he’s going to have a good amount of match-ups on his favor.
Any opinions or comments on the hit/block stun of dive kicks? I can’t tell if these people are ticking into throws off the dive kick well, or if the block stun is so long it makes them delay it. I sort of like the idea of a longer block stun because maybe it will prevent repeated dive kicking point blank on characters who have no quick AA move… but then again it does let him block string pressure for free even after a pretty high dive kick is blocked.
I’m sure the hit/block stun is similar to rufus style kicks… I am really not excited to face 2 more characters with that BS.
The genei jin combos always took lots of practice but the important thing is people will say HEY HEY HEY HEY HEY in tournies again lol
Yun was so strong in 3S i figured i didn’t wanna seem like a bandwaggon and dropped the game entirely. Used him more in CvS2
It looks like he’s pretty strong in this game, so that’s a plus, people made it sound like Yang would be sooo much better than Yun, but i’m really doubtful that this will be the case. His Genei-Jin will take time to master and execute successful combos, but it looks like his specials are good enough not to need ex-moves, so he can actually build meter much faster than I thought in this game.
I’m lookin’ forward to Yun in AE, (and if DLC comes with more characters…Rolento would be a great addition too).
More offense-oriented characters is always welcome!
Also, the videos available dont even show yun at 1/3 potential. Im telling you guys, wait for daigooo omgg im dyiiing. lol
This thread should be renamed to a general discussion one.
Heres one thing I used to do in 3rd strike that I think from videos still works in sf4, using forward fierce which has a hitbox on either side like rufus to force an opponent who is jumping to cross up and get hit by the other arm and go flying off into the distance or in the corner =)
