Yu-Gi-Oh TCG/OCG Thread

Did you guys hear about Pegasus Duels?

It’s being premiered at SJC Indy.

Essentially, it’s Traditional (non-banned) format, but with additional rules.

The rules change EVERY tournament. The rule at SJC Indy is ALL cards in your Deck, Side Deck, and Extra Deck MUST be the SAME rarity.

This card and others like it (Brain Control comes to mind off the top of my head) became a problem because of Synchros, but I don’t think it’s at a point where their condition needs to change.

mind control wasn’t a problem before because it was a WC promo and generally harder to find.

now with the wide release from gold series 2 and the abundance of synchro monsters, its getting to be really abusable.

Limiting DSF does nothing as he only comes out when its time to end the duel and I highly doubt he’ll get banned altogether. He’s far less offensive then Brionac and Brionac was only limited. I’m on the fence with Summoner Monk as him being semi-limited seems fine with me if Rescue Cat gets hit by the ban hammer. 1 turn level 8 synchros with summoner monk and rose is no less offensive then D-Draw Mal, RFG Mal, e-tele/normal summon Krebons/Plaguespreader for a level 8 sync. You are looking at -2 to your deck for d-draw, -1 for the mal search, and a -1 if you use e-tele to search out krebons. On top of potential grave management for DaD drop. I’ll gladly stomach the -2 to the hand and -1 from the deck for a level 8 synchro Summon.

Also, would that OTK dragon deck be a variant of the Hopeless Dragon deck type? Deck seems pretty dead atm with the complete lack of Synchro capbilities and reliance on 3000 beat sticks without any sort of built-in protection. Would be better if NA got Arms Hole to abuse D.D.R.

Personally, at my expense, I just want DSF gone. It’s not so much that he dominates the meta as he is the meta. Even at 1 it won’t really hurt the OTK, as a lot of people are opting to go for Arcanite Magician over the dual Strikes. Also, limiting him to 1 won’t hurt Blackwing’s random splash-in DSFs in the slightest.

As far as the new sets are concerned, I just can’t wait for my Chacu Challhua to be released(I play Crystal Beasts/Rainbow Ruins control).

I never pulled a DSF and I won’t spring $50 to buy one on ebay, so by all means - please ban it haha.

as far as new sets go - I’m looking forward to the new blackwings, vayu in particular. and I want to see if I can cobble together a fortune lady deck.

plants are getting a limiter removal in stardust overdrive. I hate plants. I’m going to hate them more.

This is actually a really good format because there are a decent variety of playable decks, especially compared to last format.

Currently, my main deck for tourneys is Blackwings, though I also play Glad Beasts as my secondary. Not sure if I want to go the Vayu route when Ancient Prophecy comes out though…

Honestly, some of the newer archetypes never really interested me. Blackwings are cool and all(and excellent for those just getting into the game or making a comeback, as the only real money cards are the BW synchros and DSF if you play to run him), but it just never really caught my attention. Morphtronics look fun though, as do Reactors; though I wouldn’t take the ladder to a Regs(maybe an SJC just for the lulz).

But then again, my absolute favorite archetype, though not very competitive, is Crystal Beasts. Earthbound Immortals only add to the fun. Fortune Ladies look like they might be fun though, especially Watery and that little chibi one.

Though I was playing on the tourney scene for about 3-4 years, I just really haven’t been feeling it competitively this year, so I went back to casual play with my Crystals. I do however still try to keep up with the meta.

fortune ladies look cute. I want to run them for practically no other reason than that.

I run blackwings too. it was a stupid easy deck to build since 90% of the cards in it are rares or commons.

here’s my bw deck. powerful tourney level deck at a low, low price!

because it takes up so much damn room

Probably because if you run them, you get compared to Crow, who has accomplished the astonishing feat of being a worse character than Judai/Jaden.

DSF isn’t that hard to pull. I have no idea why people jack up the price of SUPERS when specific ones are pretty much 1 in every 2 boxes.

Haha. I wouldn’t know a thing about that. I haven’t seen a YGO! anime since Duel Monsters ended.

I’m assuming it’s more a supply and demand sort of thing rather than just a price on rarity, as DSF is pretty much that one card everyone needs at the moment. Like 4 years ago it was Don Zaloog, D.D. Assailant, and Cyber Dragon. Then it was Dark Magician of Chaos, Treeborn Frog, and Thousand-Eyes Restrict for like the millionth time. Just a few years ago it was Card Trooper, Brain Control, Raiza the Storm Monarch, and Grandmaster of the Six Samurai. Just over a year ago and a half ago it was Light and Darkness Dragon(and Treeborn Frog again to counter it), and then Dark Armed Dragon. Just a year ago it was Krebons and Emergency Teleport. And I don’t remember exactly when, but a little after the set that brought Advanced Ritual Art(forgot the name, too lazy too look it up at the moment) came out, everyone wanted Demise, King of Armageddon.

Pricing is more over what card’s the meta-breaker at the moment. It just so happens that this format it’s Honest, Judgment Dragon, and the obvious one that currently pretty much defines it Dark Strike Fighter.

ppl wanting DSF is good 4 me, seeing as how I just got rid of 2 for 150, and still have 2 more for my extra deck lol

I don’t see Dark Strike Fighter as a problem because where I play, the people who run decks focused on them have draw engines that allow for an OTK, and nobody wants to sit there like an idiot while the other guy just goes “DRAW! MONSTER CARD!” (to use a metaphor from the anime).

I don’t think DSF should be banned. Cards in OTK decks could just be limited, hindering their speed while making our ban list less heavy (it doesn’t need to get bigger, damnit)

I bet you come from Pojo…

pojo? I get my news from shriek, used to go to metagame before konami took over. pojo boards are a joke and its card of the day reviewers have no idea what they’re talking about (one reviewer thought summoner monk had no purpose, DSF was a bad synchro, etc.)

This meta is probably one of the more refreshing ones we’ve seen in a long time. Yeah, we are still seeing dominant strategies like DAD variants, Synchro Cat, LS, GB’s, and BW’s taking the top tier status but that’s a natural part of the meta. The fact that we have that much variety for top tier decks is impressive as is but there are a lot of rogue decks making top 3 spots in various tourneys in Japan.

Recently there was a Skill Drain Plant Deck that placed 1st in a tourney and I thought that was quite innovative. Shriek’s got new deck lists for a ton of tourneys and a rogue Frog deck that ingeniously looped Brionac and Symbol of Heritage with DES Frog/CoSR took 3rd place. GB’s are finding new success with splicing in a synchro cat engine.

Kind of wish Zombie’s didn’t take such a huge hit with that ban list and I’m not sure if all of the hits were necessary. I can understand the limitation of Plaguespreader Zombie but I’m rather iffy on Mezuki and Goblin Zombie even though I’m fully aware of the loops/abuses they had. It was extremely fun runningg a Zombie World Synchro Swarm deck but the deck is too far crippled to be played anymore.

Anyways, Dark Syncrho’s are coming to the OCG but severly revamped removing the Dark Synchro mechanic and just making them Synchro monsters instead. They also have more specific Synchro conditions and the effects have been severly toned down in comparison to their anime counterparts, which we all knew was going to happen. There was no way that OHED would be left untouched so he’s been considerably nerfed.

I’m glad the Dark Synchro mechanic didn’t make it through. Negative levels would have been rulings hell in some cases.

Truer words have never been spoken. DS mechanic would have been a severe pain in the ass when it comes to rulings.
