Thoughts on the new Exceed Monster system?
Basically, extra deck monsters with black borders. No level just rank and summoning conditions are stacking the material monsters together (ie.placing them on top of each other) then taking the exceed monster from your extra deck and placing them on top of that stack. Reason behind this is that the effects usual involve removing the exceed material from the stack and sending them to the Graveyard. For example, one exceed monster requires to level 4 monsters and is rank 4 and his effect is send 1 exceed material monster to the grave to negate an attack but if he has no more materials he gets destroyed if he’s attack or something like that. I think this kind of shits on the yugioh system in general as it bypasses level based cards like Gravity Bind as Exceeds have a rank and not a level. Have to see if there is an errata in the works.
Exceed monsters so far look really bad as Synchros are easier, faster, and carry better effects. Have to wait to see what various summoning conditions and effects Exceed Monsters carry later on the first batch are pretty bad.
Basically, Priority no longer exists. Meaning if you flip Bottomless Trap Hole or Book of Moon to the Summon of a monster with an ignition effect like Dark Armed Dragon or Judgment Dragon they can no longer call priority and get their effect off before BTH or BoM resolves. Good and bad as it stops some really annoying monsters from doing their thing before getting stopped but at the same time it makes certain trap/quick spells way too good. It makes the limiting of Book of Moon justifiable but BTH’s are even better now. Pretty much anything that you can flip in response to the summon of a monster is really good allowing you to save Solemn Judgment/Warnings for even bigger threats.
I don’t know I think Heavy Storm needs to be un-banned at this point. This format is forcing more defensive play now and it’s going to be more about control decks then anything else. S/T destruction is more rare to MSTx2 and whatever themed S/T destruction you use and maybe one off cards like Dust Tornado but it allows for more slow defensive strategies to take route like running PWWB or Dimension Prison. Trap Stun seems necessary for any pushes to take place.
Trap Stun is basically the mini Cold Wave now. And I guess the new priority ruling was the cause of Book of Moon to 1, even though I think Book of Moon to 2 wouldve made alot more sense. Heavy Storm needs to come back for sure, it makes no sense to keep it banned and have decks run heavy backrows with no penalty.
Also Bottomless is no longer a main deck card. Its useless against Six Sam and good against Blackwings and Sabers and maybe Keepers if necrovalley is out.
The current OCG six samurai build is dead with Gateway and Book of Moon at 1. The deck can’t play as defensive until it hits copies of Gateway and with Gateway at 1 the explosiveness of the deck seems inconsistent. I think they can still be competitive with the right modifications.
sarc is at three and six sam basically have four ROTA with shien’s smoke signal, I think the deck will be plenty fast enough to get gateway relatively soon? just a guess, I don’t actually play the deck.
haven’t played yugioh in over 6 years, nice to see SRKers keeping yugioh love strong, how’s exodia decks doing these days? 
Sarcs are still 2 turn waits and even though they have a draw 2 card that nets them +1 advantage it still doesn’t mean too much with gateway at 1. The deck can still survive but it has to change its focus instead of issuing a commanding lead with 2-3 gateway plays it has to make due with more defensive plays and figure other strategies in the event the 1 copy of gateway gets destroyed or discarded early on.
sounds exactly like blackwings dealing with 1 BWW, but I guess they had more time to be at the top of things before getting nerfed.
Meh. I mean, they can still work, but good luck stalling out to get Exodia with the speed of the game now. On top of that, it will take like 5 seconds for anyone to realize what you’re trying to pull off.

yeah, unless you have a deck where you have a very good chance of getting exodia in two turns or less, your pretty much screwed
It’s even harder to get Exodia out because of the limiting and semi-limiting of quick draw cards like Destiny Draw and Allure of Darkness. I don’t like the slow exodia decks that rely on gravity bind and level limit to play defensively. It’s really unreliable the majority of the time. The only sure fire way to get Exodia reliably now is with Gusta loop since it’s an infinite draw loop that’s pretty easy to do but incredibly annoying to watch because it’s basically watching a guy loop a combo to draw 1 card from his deck at a time until he has all 5 pieces of Exodia. Dam ive been out of yugioh for 5 years now i think? last time i played zombie master decks were wrecking face and il blud was like 150 bucks…i come back out of retirement to see not one zombie deck being played, whats with all this synchro crap and why the hell is treeborn frog not limited??? do they love monarchs that much?

5D’s is such a great Anime, it’s not on the level as the first series but it’s definitely 2nd best out of the 3 Yu-Gi-Oh! shows.

First series was only really cool the first time you watched it. When you watch it actually knowing how to play the game, it can start to annoy you. Not to mention, Yugi says destiny so many times…gah. Yusei’s the perfect blend to being overly serious like Yugi, and way too damn carefree like Jaden, while also having most of the actual cards…you know, not be wrong.
