Yo i found that out when i did a breakdown of him…He has no grab…I hate that they did that to him honestly…
Nice write up! I’m happy to know others played this game like me and my friends did.
Majin Yusuke is top Tier I agree… I haven’t spent too much time with all of the characters yet. But I have found a few infinites mid screen with hiei. So he would be High tier if not top tier on my list.
The beauty of SRK is I can post in topics that I might not necessarily agree with because I have a right to post in them. Whether or not you want me to join in on how “underrated” Bloody Roar was.
In other news, my friends fiancee spoke to me more about the project. Hes gonna handle the editting, and the technical side. I will handle the research and looking for high level or really any decent level footage as well as our talking points for each show.
I can’t wait to write my PhD in psychology: “Examining the relationship between combative personality traits and fighting game enthusiasts: how FG players create, find and maintain combat situations outside of the video game context in order to legitimate their identities.”
Well you started it by barking at me for saying some of those games arent underrated. For the simple fact that there were actual good fighters that were underrated. I was more confused than anything, so I spoke on it, and your rebuttal was to just sweep me under the rug and ask me to go away.
Lol.
So lets try this again. Starting over.
Sup guys. Sounds awesome, however, do you plan on doing other more obscure games? I see you want to start with DBZ and Bloody Roar, I thought those were pretty popular imo. But still cool none the less.
Eye of Typhoon on 3DO. Only released in Korean market. I saw one go for $1500 on ebay once, never seen it up for sale ever in like 3yrs since. No footage of it on youtube.
I would love to watch, but, unfortunately, I have no proficiency in any underrated fighters. I wish you luck and you’ll have a sub for doing something different.
Maybe I could find a buddy with a copy of Def Jam Icon…
Depends on why no one played them. Were the players of the age not ready for the steps that they were taking and still adamantly held onto the old standard (arcade only, 2d sprites). Were they just bad games? Did it not get any advertisement and people didn’t even knew that it came out? Were they released on consoles that weren’t popular? Or just released at a bad time against a lot of solid games and fell by the wayside? Was Way of the Warrior on the 3DO really any worse than Mortal Kombat, and had Way of the Warrior came out when Mortal Kombat came out in arcades would we be seeing Way of the Warrior 9 instead of MK9? Did the games get a bad rap by people who never played them because they heard from a friend that it wasn’t good? Were the games just a half assed attempt to cash in on something popular or did they really try to make something great?
I think yahyahb’s point is there are games that are respected and considered high quality by the community despite being unpopular (in the west at least) such as Breaker revenge, Vampire Savior, jojo, etc. Those wouldn’t be considered underrated, but underappreciated.
However I do think there are probably games that are considered poor quality that maybe weren’t given a fair shake.
if what blufang post is accurate than I have concure with Yahyahb’s sentiments.
theirs been games mention that while not “Appreciates” how ever not underrated.
while im not suggesting these games shouldnt be revisit. at the same time they shouldn’t be priority imo.
with the exception of maybe bloody roar. People know of bloody roar but not really how it plays
What do you mean by weren’t competitive? That no one played them competitively or the games could not be played competitively. The former would be case in point of underrated, and the latter would be slightly misguided and/or uninformed. The 3D DBZ games weren’t the most amazingly designed fighters, but at least for the Budokai series and games like Super DBZ, there was plenty going on to facilitate high level play.
I was conversing with a friend and he reminded me of the first two Bleach games for the DS: Blade of Fate and Dark Souls. They were very well designed 4 player, 2d, balanced fighters. I think I could easily find a couple copies and see if I could make some video somehow.
Eh. Couldnt be played competitively. Just like the Naruto games on PS3 the only strategy is about item usage and footsies as theres no real frame punishes or high/low mixup.
DBZ Hyper Dimension isnt bad. Its ST with a DBZ flair.
Also my main focus is games that never had a scene or were greatly misunderstood. Vampire Savior is pretty much the grandaddy of doujin style fighters and had a strong scene and has garnished much respect.
You cant put that in the same tier as say Bloody Roar.
