Your opinion on the SF comic

I love it.

I love the comic. Its great to unwind after a hard day of work and class to read a fun comic based on a game series I love.

As for cliches, well… the game is FULL of cliches. To alter that would change the foundation of the SF universe and that would be unacceptable.

As for the story… its not meant to be great literature. I mean… its called STREET FIGHTER. Therefore, fighting is at the heart of the universe. Plus it is based on a fighting game.

They have to introduce new characters each issue. They have to give all the characters from the game a shot. If they did not, fans of those characters would complain endlessly.

I read novels when I want a deep, intricate story (and I’m a big reader). I read comics and manga to see some great artwork, character designs, and all-around coolness. SF delivers this for me, and thus, I’m satisfied.

More on the covers…

It really seems like beating a dead horse, but I just have some more thoughts to add…

When I was younger, and first started getting into comic books as a hobby, I remeber walking into a local drugstore and seeing a bunch of comics on the racks or shelves. When I saw a Batman or X-Men comic, the first thing I connected with of the image on the cover. Usually, it was some kind of great dramatic shot of someone laying on the ground with the assailant laughing over them or someone walking down th street. Whatever the image was, covers like that made me want to pick up the book, just to see what happens.

What I trying to get at is that with Street Fighter so far, I’ve never felt that. When I pick up th issue, I see a very well-drawn piece of art, but not the dramatic scenes that got me hooked in the first place. Sometimes, I feel that if I didn’t like Street Fighter, would I even pick up th book? I’ve realized that a good, meaningful cover that can tell a story in themselves sell just as much as the characters or creators.I’m pretty sure at least some comic fans started reading because of a great cover that caught their eye. I’m definitely sure most comic fans have pick up a single issue because the cover. I just wish Street Fighter had a good, story driven cover that just screams "READ ME! ".

This is not a comndemnation of the book or the hard work you all put into it. It’s just one fans personal opinion(a very, very, very minor one at that). I still really love the book and I am happy with the direction it’s going. I know with the talents at Udon and the great guest artists and cover artists you guys attract, you could create some of the best story covers to go with those amazing pin-up covers you do so well. I just had to get that off my chest. Thanks for reading:) !

Contrary to what DerangedZombie says, I think the series has a perfect balance of story and action/fighting. Dude, if you want more fights, go play the videogames. Like every videogame, SF has a story/plot behind it and books are supposed to tell a STORY.
The story definitely does move along way too fast. I wish you’d get rid of cheap shots and the backstories. The backstories are usually poorly drawn and take away from the main story. Plus the backstories themselves are pretty stupid. The one where Ryu cut/ripped off a chunk of Ken’s hair w/ a Hurricane Kick still bothers me. Cheap Shots is amusing, but it’s a waste of space. It’s unnecessary and I could do without it. Maybe if you got rid of those 2 segments/sections, you wouldn’t have to rush the story too much.
The covers, while well-drawn, are a bit misleading. It’s a bit of a let-down when the character(s) featured on the cover don’t appear in the issue. Also, the covers are all the same. Almost every single one is a group pic/collage.

Hmmmm. I’ve been kind of wanting to type my opinion for a while, so this is a good chance I think!

The good>
>>The story, I think, is executed very well. I really like the ballance between the story and the characters and the fighting. Sakura, as a character, has always bothered me. But I actually found that I like the comic relief she brings to each issue and it helps ballance and lighten up the oft serious storylines.

>>I like the pace of the books. I have read some comments that some people felt the issues were short, but I never had that feeling when I finished reading a street fighter issue. Actually, I like the overall schematics of each issue: The main story, guest stories and then the cheap chots. [yay! jal!]

>> The guest comics are always a nice touch. It’s very cool to get the other artists styles and interpretations inside the books themselves. This also adds the last touch, that extra fight or the extra character development that really pushes the comic.

the bad>
>>I hate to say this, because I know that everyone will disagree, but its actually the art of the main comic that bothers me. I am impressed, and hold a great deal of respect, for most of the artists working on it, and for that reason I don’t know why, but I feel like its not up to their standards. For example, the colouring is very good but for some reason the colourschemes do not agree with me. Their skintones all seem too alike [except for the characters where is very noticible] and they seem too yellow. Like in every scene where there is both ken and Eliza, I can’t help but think ‘skin is not usually THAT yellow…’ Then there are some things about the girls, more then the guys, in the way that they’re drawn. Firstly, I’m not entirely fond of Sakura, because I think she kind of looks boyish. I know that little girls are a little more angular rather then soft and curvy [I WAS one :D] but then again, it seems overly emphasized to me. I know it sets her apart from the other characters, but for some reason that bothers me.

Anyway, I hope that my comment on the art wasn’t too negative… I know that other people have been making rude comments on the backup story art, I just hope that I wasn’t too out of place. I know that it’s just a style thing, so its not like its bad, but I find myself thinking “this isn’t that fantastic…” while everyone else is just screaming about it-then again, if everyone else loves it-why change it?

I think the comic is just wonderful the art, the story, and the fights.Plus the cheapshots are funny.I have nothing negative to say about the comic. One more thing the new vega holofoil rocks!

I just remembered something about the comic that pisses me off. The holofoils dont match with the comic at all. Issue number 2 was the Ken holofoil, but why the hell didnt they wait one issue where Ken fights and defeats not only Vega but Zangief as well. Yea issue #2 is where Ken first does the uppercut, but I feel #3 would have been more appropriate for it. Also, they made a group holofoil before they made all the individuals.

Can anyone else confirm this? I’ve never seen a group holofoil for Street Fighter. If so, when will this be released?

It’d be cool to have two people on one foil cover (not like #5 foil though), such as Ken and Ryu doing Hadokens or Akuma shoryuken-ing the crap out of someone.

I love the comic, i dont have anything negative to say about it. the comic is balanced with a great story, fighting scenes, and superb artwork. Every month i look forward to going to my comic shop and pick up the next issue. I usually finish reading the issue inside my car while parked in front of the comic store. Cant wait to read what happens next.

you know what would make a cool cover instead of as holofoil? You’ve all seen the intro to street fighter 2 turbo right? the one where ryu is about to blast a hadoken towards the screen. Udon should make a cover with that. I dont know what that thing is called but when you look at it at different angles you see a different image of ryu’s hadoken blast. That would be nice!!

Very cool idea, nokternal. I think you’re talking about in the games SUPER Street Fighter II and Super SFII Turbo. This would definately be an awesome foil.

My thoughts: I love it.
Sure, it has its things that can use improvement(which I wish that phase was used instead of “Things I hate”), but overall it appeals to fans and general public. Yes, I’d love the story to be more detailed and characters to be enriched…but I’ll be patient. There’s plenty of story left. If you’re not optimistic, the issues may just be short lived.

mmmkaaay

i love the art of course. i dont like the story to much, it is focussing on cammy alot, when i think of street fighter i dont think of cammy, i think of warriors who live to fight and get stronger, plus i thought she was mi6 before bisons control. the fight scenes bore me because all the moves are straight off of the video game. add a head bunt, a knee break, something else im sure karate and kungfu have more moves then what is on the video game. i would just prefer it be more about fighting and how they develop themselves through fighting. i would like to see them practicing there techniques or maybe get a little history on there philosphy of ki and fighting techniques. just something a little more interesting then cammy doing missions that have nothing to do with developing her fighting skills. we are on number 9 now. i hope they soon take this from army fighter to street fighter! but i will still by it anyways because i have been brainwashed by capcom for 10 years now, why stop! oh and i think the backups should be about the characters history more. like for ex. sakuras fight should have been a backup of why she wants to be a fighter and who influenced her, you know stuff like that, not eliza and ken breaking up and then getting back together, thats nice for filler but i think you have alot of other stuff you could put in backups other than that. oh well keep on doin your street fighter thing because i will still buy it…
damn does that make my opinion irrelevant if im going to buy it anyways:wtf:

The art is great, the writing is a little bland by comparison. But that’s okay with me.

The real truth of the matter is SF’s original story was hardly engaging to a casual reader. I applaud Udon for sticking with it as much as they can, as that is the only way to keep the real fans satisfied, but for those looking for deep characters and scenarios SF’s story is not going to deliver. The game is all action, with a minor interlude of dialogue, and in the story that is reflected in the main character Ryu’s personality. And let’s face it, Ryu’s character was a novelty when the game first came out but now it’s easy to see him as the static, focused-yet-dimwitted hero he is. Is that Udon’s fault? I really don’t think so.

Hulk # 30 = 12 mins

Street Fighter # 8 = 5 mins

Tmnt # 8 = 8 mins

Tales of The Tmnt # 1 = 13 mins

I dont read comics no more:(

you want me to kill myself because i download comics and think a lame story is lame? please remove your mouth from udons nuts. its disgusting

and my name is the bucket of truth. get it right next time

Nearly one year later you reply? Fuck you must be bored man

I’d like to see more pages, more chars development and FF story. BTW: SF Ex and SF1 ‘unknown’ characters. That’s all.

Longer fights. Every thing else is fine.

I have loved the comic extremely I just wish there was more and more frequently

Got to agree I personally hate the idea that they take up good page space that should be used for the main story or even the back up story. Get rid of cheap shots I never even read them , I just stop reading the comic when it comes to those pages.

Again I hate that we have had to wait so long for the next issue arc to start.

Udon is handcuffed by Capcom and SF not really having a very good story in the first place. It’s mostly for the fights but…I don’t know if comics are the best medium to show that.

Udon has show what they can do with Darkstalkers, now if only Capcom would let them do more with SF.
