Hey, guys. I’ve noticed something about fighting games: Some match-ups are more “fun” than others.
What makes a match up fun for you?
For me, it’s a mixture of rush down and spacing.
Favorite match-ups include:
Yang/Ken - This is just a blast of come-back potential. Both characters can pressure and have a good low to low game.
Dudley/Dudley - I’m not usually a big fan of mirror matches. But there’s so much fun in the high-low pressure game that each Dudley can provide. Both characters provide a fantastic footsie game while they wait to explode on the offense.
Yang/Akuma - Another great rush-down, but now with a low-HP gamble game with kill quick or die quick ideology.
Dudley/Hugo - This match is terrifying. Dudley needs to get in and do his 50/50 wake-up games on Hugo, but Hugo has huge comeback grabs that can make that “in your face” pressure a whole lot more questionable.
Yang (or Dudley) vs Q - I don’t get mad when I lose to Q. I think he’s a fantastic character and I give a huge amount of credit to those who can play him well. Watching Q.'s function competitively is as much of an enigma as Q. himself.
LEAST Favorite Match-Ups -
Dudley/Remy - Obvious.
Dudley/Oro - Oro isn’t fun to fight against. He turtles a lot, and his times of pressure are more just lock-down than any sort of exciting mix-up.
Yang (or minorly Dudley)/Urien - Urien’s aegis lock down is obnoxious, and he has plenty of moves to corner you into it. His voice is annoying. It’s the most annoying voice in the world. Though guessing through his reflector can be fun, and surviving it a sense of accomplishment as he tries to high-low you into getting hit by it.
Phew. Anyway, those are my thoughts. What are yours, and say why. I’d love to know if people hate fighting against Dudley (since him and Yang are my mains).
