Your Most Fun/Least Fun Match-Ups!

Hey, guys. I’ve noticed something about fighting games: Some match-ups are more “fun” than others.

What makes a match up fun for you?

For me, it’s a mixture of rush down and spacing.

Favorite match-ups include:

Yang/Ken - This is just a blast of come-back potential. Both characters can pressure and have a good low to low game.

Dudley/Dudley - I’m not usually a big fan of mirror matches. But there’s so much fun in the high-low pressure game that each Dudley can provide. Both characters provide a fantastic footsie game while they wait to explode on the offense.

Yang/Akuma - Another great rush-down, but now with a low-HP gamble game with kill quick or die quick ideology.

Dudley/Hugo - This match is terrifying. Dudley needs to get in and do his 50/50 wake-up games on Hugo, but Hugo has huge comeback grabs that can make that “in your face” pressure a whole lot more questionable.

Yang (or Dudley) vs Q - I don’t get mad when I lose to Q. I think he’s a fantastic character and I give a huge amount of credit to those who can play him well. Watching Q.'s function competitively is as much of an enigma as Q. himself.

LEAST Favorite Match-Ups -

Dudley/Remy - Obvious.

Dudley/Oro - Oro isn’t fun to fight against. He turtles a lot, and his times of pressure are more just lock-down than any sort of exciting mix-up.

Yang (or minorly Dudley)/Urien - Urien’s aegis lock down is obnoxious, and he has plenty of moves to corner you into it. His voice is annoying. It’s the most annoying voice in the world. Though guessing through his reflector can be fun, and surviving it a sense of accomplishment as he tries to high-low you into getting hit by it.

Phew. Anyway, those are my thoughts. What are yours, and say why. I’d love to know if people hate fighting against Dudley (since him and Yang are my mains).

Akuma vs Elena, because I don’t know what the fuck Elena does

Remy vs Chun takes the fun out of playing Remy
you gotta change your playstyle almost completely

Honestly my favorite match-ups lately are anything that is not Ken or Akuma. Not because I find them particularly troubling or hard but there are so many amazing characters in this game and the potential is squandered by online warriors picking Ken or Akuma. 95% of my matches are against shoto characters. Every other match-up in comparison is a breathe of fresh air.

least favorite:
oro vs chun - by far oro’s worst match. no pokes win, st. hk goes over her head when shes crouching, monster damage, ex spinning bird out of tengu pressure, etc. broken
oro vs ibuki - it seems that oro’s bad matchups are ones where st hk goes over the characters head when they crouch. also the slide move beats everything. you can reversal srk it on block though. tough mixups sometimes. 7-3 ibuki
oro vs elena - i just hate elena, especially online
oro v any braindead sf4 player trying to play sf3 with ken, ryu, or akuma - just annoying

favorite
dudley - crossup in the corner for unblockables :), f + MP and low mk own him. easy chicken dance
alex - same thing
q - q owns. also you can stun finish him in the corner with HK’s which is hilarious

People new to a game picking a character they are familiar with? Nowai!

i just dislike playing against lag rollback into wakeup special move or super every time

the only not fun match is vs tweleve. fuck that guy.

Man. There was another conversation somewhere on here where people talked about how much they hate fighting Twelve. What is it about that guy that sucks so bad? I’ve never fought one that knows what they’re doing before.

Hate Yang the most for sure. It’s like Ken with stronger mix up and low forward into damage + knockdown ALL THE TIME meter or no meter. Only difference is Ken doesn’t get rushed down as hard.

Love fighting Urien, Dudley and Hugo the most with Ibuki. Big hit boxes allow you to do fun link based combos and block strings that last for days.

Most fun Petshop
Least fun Dio so many of them

Most fun:

Oro v Alex: only versus the troll alex players; nonstop stomp mixups, SPD wakeup mind games, stungun headbutt, gimmicky (one-time only) setups, the works. This is because I suck against them. The harder I get my ass kicked (Franz-lore or Hanz-lore or whoever the fuck that was) the funner.

Oro v Yun: parried divekick -> cl.mp -> HK, into eventual stun. Running away from genei-jin the entire match is the best thing ever. These matches are great because they usually go really one way in either player’s favor (correct guess to get HK into an early stun against Yun is fantastic), or last a really long time (multiple genei-jin runaway).

Oro v Ken: Kens that can space good and punish well are fun to fight, and I learn a lot from these fights.

EDIT: learning to fight against urien and elena is making the matchups fun for me. The process of discovery is what makes it good. Wish I could say the same for Q (I haven’t won against a single good Q yet).

chun chun
chun ken (me as chun or ken)
mak chun (me as mak or chun)
chun yun
ken ken
Q chun (me as Q. dont like playing as chun)
Q mak (me as Q.)
dud chun (me as dud)

least fav
anything vs oro, elena, twelve.

Nobody likes playing against Twelve…

No wonder people are so done with playing after like 3 matches win or lose:sad:…

gouki vs urien is my favorite. gouki has mad freedom in this match
gouki vs yun. i feel like this matchup is 5-5 and its just a fun one to play imo

least fav
gouki vs oro
gouki vs yang
anyone vs 12

ya 12 is fuckin gay, thank god urien is in the game <3

Twelve, Chun and Yun are truly the epitome of “I’m gonna do whatever the fuck I want until you figure it out. Then I’m gonna do whatever the fuck I want. trollface.jpg

The difference is Twelve has damned near no combos, so the player has to be good at doing whatever the fuck he wants. The match is frustrating for everyone except Urien.

For me:
Favorites:
Alex vs Ken. Ken players autopilot this one until I win a round. Then I know I have them shook. Unless they’re awesome.
Alex vs Akuma. See above.
Alex vs Yang. I used to main Yang so I typically know what to look for. Some Yang’s do try some tricky shit, though.

Hated:
Alex vs Elena. Dash throw and long legs catch me damned near everytime. D:
Alex vs Urien. Long legs and headbutt beat so much of my good shit. D:
Alex vs Chun. Her normals are pretty much all better than mine. D:

Favorites:
Chun vs Necro
Chun vs Alex
Yun vs Yang

Least Favorites:
Chun vs Urien
Yun vs Urien
Chun vs Yang

i dont even know what this means. i think maybe i get what you’re talking about but basically you can say that about the entire cast. when someone doesnt know what a character can do, that character seems godly.

twelve is stupid. sean sucks but twelve is both stupid and he sucks.

What I mean is that those three characters completely change how you play the game. For example, Akuma and Ken will pretty much rush you down every time. Makoto will fish for Karakusa/Stun/LOL@YOU. Alex wants mixups and stuff.

Twelve wants to piss you off by being completely fucking spastic and random. No matter what the matchup is (except Urien) Twelve goes in like water. No plan (maybe some plan, aside from “piss this guy off”) and doing everything they can to confuse you the whole match. Mindgames is one thing. Twelve is stupid and confusion incarnate.
