Was only 8 when ST2 came out but I can relate to a lot of those. I only got good at fighters when VF2 came out though. I remember throwing was considered cheap, and at least in my area, so were cross-ups. Thinking about it now, I find Arcades today boring compared to the old days, even though to competition today is far, far better.
The Quik Stop by my house got CE before the 7-11 did, and I remember being so happy I could pick Vega. That 7-11 got no business for a while, as I recall.
if you studied the fuck out of AGSF2 and never posted on the newsgroup, and understand what T:TG means through extensive research… you might be a fake OG =[ (or an SF historian!)
i remembered playing CE for the first time after WW, and realizing that both sagat and vega had kick moves for their jumping punches lol
…o…m…g…
i remember when someone comes from midscreen or whatever to throw was cheap, like you’re not suppose to do that.
crossover/crossup was called neck breakers from Ryu/Ken.
this is what me and my friends thought what they said first time:
“atrat tat bogus!”, hurricane kick.
“All Mutant!”, dragon punch.
“mini sa kick”, spinning bird kick.
“avec vous”, that…well, that we thought was sonic boom…and that’s french…and he’s America…i loved the arguments we had.
I was playing Alpha 2 like a crack head as a kid. I ate that shit up…
i remember me and my cousin raced to get to sim first in sf2:ww. good times.
when we were low on quarters, we had other ways of getting our SF fix
mostly we used the penny method (we were very good at this always had our tools with us) we could lift the door and cut the metal thing in 30sec. and put it back like nothing had happend to it when we were done playing.
also the string on a quarter but we would lose few quarters before we get the timing.
and my least favorite, smashing nickels with a hammer and making it quarter size. after smashing 20 30 nickels I would be too tired to play
there were few othere ways, but only worked on the older machens. my favorite the cigarette lighter and metal hook methods.
ahh the Jr. high days, learned a lot of crazy stuff from hanging out at the arcades a lot
“Ryu has this helicopter kick where he spins and kicks you!!”
“You’re just making shit up…”
That one made me laugh everytime. It sounded like Douze Couilles in french which meant Twelve Testicles. Good ole Honda.
you mean it wasn’t “Hoot-Hoy”?
…???
THAT’S why some of the coin slots I’ve come across were melted like that! I thought niggas was just bein destructive. =x
“Don’t attack that squirrel jet!”
I remember learning how to 2-in-1 for the first time in CE and thinking I was the shit.
used to think that ryu and ken were always cussing in there special moves with my cousins…so it sounded like ‘adoshit’,‘allushit’, and gibberish with shit somewhere within it
I’ve seen the melted coin slots also, that might be somthing electrical from the inside thats doing it
the cigarette lighter trick we used works defrently, and on older machens. the kind that use lollypop sticks where the stick is metal.
there is a kind of a lighter that uses a push button to produce a spark, its an electrical spark (like static electricity)
all you need to do is take out the push button with the spark producer extension and spark the side of the metal stick 3 or 4 sparks should give you a credit.
but there are some side effects, some times the game will reset or the picture willl get messed up and somtimes the sound will go crazy. but mostly you get credits
we also used this to zapp friends in class:rofl:
OG? I remember when WW came out Blanka was hot for all of maybe a week. Then we saw him get AHHYOUKEN’d out of the ball and half his life disappeared. Blanka then went away until hyper fighting.
I used to have to wait over 30 minutes to get a turn on the game, I think that alone was what pushed me into learning to play it as well as I could.
Also if you remember something like “Hadoo-Hadoo Ken! Hadoo-Hadoo Ken! or Sonic-Sonic Boom! Sonic-Sonic Boom!” lasting for more than 10 seconds, that’s '91 SF for sure.
Is it bad that I did a speech on SF2 in college and my senior EE project was a joystick adapter for the original SF2 on the SNES?
I remember many of these, but I remember VERY well the first time I saw a 2 in 1 combo. SF2, Mission Beach arcade, a fellow competitor (and his cheerleader?) showed up all happier than ever. Puts in his quarter, we were pretty evenly matched at this point, and has this grin. I win first round. Second round he gets me in stars, his cheerleader (friend?) starts yelling COMBO! COMBO! DO THE COMBO! So Fred walks up and 2 in 1’s standing fierce into Shoryuken… I was like WTF!? so much damage… He basically one the third round because I was watching his hands. A few days later I had the 4 hit fierce from Guile landed on me, wow the game sure changed at that point.
Anyway, that was the beginning to a whole new world of SF to me. Good times.
LOL throwbacks.
ok ok i have on me, a priceless item
a S.W.A.T.P.R.O. from 1994
featuring ssf2t, and how to unlock akuma
thats not all, its has coverage of MWC (midwest championships) from that year as well. possibly the first mwc.
guess who came first? im gonna see if my scanner will work. this shit is too powerful.
I’m so OG. If you ever played with THE HORSEMEN… you might be OG.
