try cap (any)/doom (missiles)/strider (vajra)
strider is good on xf3 with auroboros and his vajra assist is good because both cap and doom can easliy combo off otg’s
missiles help cap with his combos and overall ability, you can get two hyper charging stars with missiles so that’s pretty cool
if you want to use taskmaster, i’d go for cap (charging star)/taskmaster (horizontal arrows)/doom (missiles)
taskmaster second for safe dhcs from hyper charging star, arrows help cap with roll mixups
doom isn’t the best anchor but you can make it work, taskmaster is effective with missiles
try those two teams, ill try to explore some more stuff
Yeah I’m labbin Strider right now for that very team. Still exploring set ups with the Jara beyond a zoning tool and anti air. I feel a lil weary using him for rush in pressure to mix up since there’s gaps. Any notable Cap/Striders to reference?
I’m forming a B team of Task (V arrow)/ Doom(missile)/Anchor (likely some pinning assist/beam). Currently anchoring Akuma, but that can change and I feel I have much more freedom for that spot than the Cap team. Task and Missiles is really good so I decided to run a team around it.
alex valle plays cap/sent/strider that’s the only one i know
by pinning do you mean lockdown? you should look into taskmaster/doom (missiles)/ammy (cold star) aka team Honzo Gonzo
cold star is a great lockdown assist for both taskmaster and doom is isn’t a bad anchor
doom/ammy shell is powerful, use thc doom/ammy and tri dash with doom while ammy’s super is still going, the thunder part should create a knockdown
if opponent is hit into knockdown, follow with regular foot dive combo
if blocked, mix them up during the super
dunno the correct technique though, ive just seen some nasty stuff
this team has great potential, you can easily dhc from plasma storm into swords
rapid slash can also be used for keepaway with sentinel with h/c.h and drones
missiles for vertical cover as well so you could try sent/doom/vergil
you can hard tag into sentinel from vergil’s dp.m (lunar phase) rocket punch xx plasma storm DHC swords (i’ll get a video soon)
overall i like this team
Yeah I barely lost to KBeast at Evo and was gonna play Valle next (hyper didn’t come out for the kill T____T), but didn’t get the chance. I couldn’t find any vids on him to see the team in motion.
I’ll try ammy anchor. I have a little practice with her and that might be better since akuma is a bit awkard with Doom on hit. I just don’t like Doom anchor, he’s ok in certain situations but it’s very easy to run away from him for some characters and then there’s Dorm match up…
ammy has an xf3 infinite with the f.h of the thunder sword (glaive)
personally i don’t use ammy too much because you have to master weapon changing and i find down down motion hard especially on pad,
in terms of synergy i think ammy is better with doom but im better with akuma overall
and woah you went to evo? you should be helping me haha
i just know combos
I use a Hitbox now, so down down’s are very easy for me.
Just tried the team and was a lil…meh…then I figured some tech out with +:h:+:a2:(ammy), :dp:+:h: and holy fucking shit! So a really douchy setup on character coming in from the corner with Task on point:
on block = :a1:(doom), wait till Doom lands, :qcf:+:m::h:, pause, +:h:+:a2:(ammy), :dp:+:h: (cannot advance guard)> :h::h::h::qcf:+:h:, :qcf::u:+:m::h:
That’s like a 50% block string, more if I hyper before the stab and DHC, O_O
Dude, sentinel. Unless you don’t like the character(understandable) I can’t think of anyone else that would fit your team better.
I play him on point, think he’s optimal position is second but understand why so many cats play him on anchor. Its the akuma/sentinel curse of having one of the best assists in the game(well two of the best assists in the game).
I tried sentinel, but i have doubt with him as anchor. I never feel threatened by sentinel on point and likewise when playing as him i feel at disadvantage. Also…and this is dumb…I really don’t know how to call his assist effectively…Always seem to be leading the drones too far back so they go over head or he gets hit and happy bday’s ensue.
Strider is making for an interesting zoning game. his hit stun on grounded though leaves something to be desired. Still learning how to keep my frames + when going in and not setting myself up to be :l:'d out of my follow up.
strider is probably one of doom’s best assists, you can zone and hit confirm off it, extend combos, almost anything
doom also builds good meter (especially in TAC’s) so you can go to ouroboros with strider
don’t know much about sentinel but again helps zoning and combo extensions, dash mixup potential
I’m bouncing between RR (pendulum) and Strider (vajra). I have concerns over RR as anchor, but so far the assist seems better for Cap. For Doom I like strider more…gah…>_<
So I was working on corner resets with Doom and Spencer’s restand assist (this is stupid good for Doom’s oki btw) and sometimes when going for st.H (OTG) + A2, Spencer would appear on the OTHER side of the screen (as in, with Doom on P1 side, he would appear in P2 side and pull the opponent towards him) while Doom would stay where he was. And the opponent would end up midscreen for some reason. Whenever I got this to happen, it led to some pretty MvC2 Magneto-esque mixups where you’d have to guess both on which side he was gonna be on and which direction to block. So far, I haven’t gotten it to work consistently at all, so I was wondering if anybody here could help me get this to work.
I’ll try to make a quick video showing off a couple of the resets I got, hopefully it’ll end up making my Doom play not so autopilot anymore. I’m really liking this assist in general since it extends combos and does wonders for oki by really forcing the opponent to guess. I have yet to implement this with my Strange stuff, but he doesn’t really need to do those anyway.
tl;dr I found a way to put the opponent back at midscreen from the corner with the restand assist for some possibly mindfuck-inducing shenanigans.
I dunno, spencer can pretty much carry any opponent to the near death and a simple DHC to up shot or an in corner finger lasers should be game. I don’t think there would be enough damage left to fish for to justify the sword loop if it means doom is anchor.
As for doom anchor, him being bad at it is more match up dependent and an idea you could do is form your team in a certain way that you can change order if you see a problem. EXAMPLE: Say I run Zero/Vergil/Doom…i want vergil for swords, but it makes doom anchor. If i had a bad MU for anchors (Dormammu!), I might prefer Zero/Doom/Vergil. So I would set my team up Vergil/Zero/Doom and at the start of each round hold :a1: or :a2: and I can choose between those orders and maintain my point character. I did this with my Cap/Doom/Task team by ordering Doom/Cap/Task since cap had bad MUs that Task could beat but Cap is a bad anchor.
Well you gotta put time into sentinel, dudes an investment but it pays off, I mean a sentinel was in grand finals at evo this year, its possible, and its not even that difficult when you consider how many people run sentinel anchor relatively effectively. But if you don’t like him no need to stress yourself out, although I can’t really think of an assist that benefits both cap and doom as good as drones. Dooms good assists are ammy, sent and strider so you could try them all out, Im not sure if cap can convert of strider without x-factor/bar but you could experiment to see.
Personal question, how do you guys feel about wolvie/doom(plasma)/sentinel? I have a really good feeling about that team, my old team had doom on point and I didn’t feel too comfortable with wolvies and magneto’s running around. I haven’t given it too much of a test run yet, but it felt good in the few matches I played, seemed to have most angles covered and the only issue is if wolverine gets snapped into anchor slot since he has mediocre assists to say the very least.
