I agree with this 100%. Arthur doesn’t need gold armor as much as he used to. XF3 in grey armor is still potent, and his other supers are fantastic anyways without the drawback of a hard knockdown and low health.

OMG… I already stopped counting how many times I lost to Dormammu spam with Arthur when I don’t have meter to lv3 his face.

… Now how to escape Doom beams or Hawkeye arrows?

Doom: Jumping arrows and ground lances. Regular armor.
Hawkeye: Gold armor is your best bet here. There’s not much (other than Gimlet) he can do against gold lances. They beat out his lightning arrow.

dont forget that arthurs hypers all have some invincibility. you can input the command during gimlets
startup (the little cinematic after the flash), and because gimlet is so fast, you can avoid the entire hyper

The health and Air S is exactly what Arthur needed. Air S practically makes him a new character. Having much, much success with it.

On this point, I was playing against a strong Hawkeye player online the other day - keepaway fights between him and Arthur are always down to the wire - when he tried to hit me with the Gimlet while I was on the ground pressing buttons. Out of desperation, I threw out a Goddess’ Bracelet on reaction…and I didn’t take the hit. :open_mouth:

Aerial Daggersx3 use shouldn’t be under estimated. I just shut down a decent sent & Spencer player on Live ranked attempting to fly over on me like that.

Also had an awesome win over a Dark Phoenix. Was dominating the match, then dark Phoenix came out and destroyed my whole team…except authur. I super jumped and came down with S, then launched with air combo into the corner. Then kept OTGing with fire bottle and beat her. Luckily i didn’t have Gold armor or else that would not have worked.

I hope that in a future update, Gold Armor fire bottles are thrown out the same distance. So corner OTGs still work. Just give the Gold bottles a larger “explosion” upon hitting the ground to help with normal distance OTGs.

with xfactor lvl3, which my gold armor arthur is usually in, what i do in the corner is after air series, S, land, i jump back, air fire bottle, which still otgs and catches them on time. Then i lance forward, covering the lost distance, and can usually launch right after or go into the heavenly slash loop. Sometimes it doesnt work probably due to character size, but i havent tried it without xfactor to see if it works more times than not, maybe someone can hit the lab real quick, cause i wont be on umvc3 for some time.

air dagger x3 or x2 to ground lance x2 is wonderful and can shut down all normal jumping. Super jumps can be met with a super jump fire bottle or lance. :slight_smile:

How useful are lances really? Seems like one would be served as well with Daggers.

You gotta consider that each weapon has their own strengths and weaknesses. Daggers are faster and more numerous, but lances are wider, stronger, more durable and offer more blockstun. Thanks to lances, Arthur can win any projectile war.
I prefer daggers when I need to pepper someone fast, like an approaching Skrull or Sentinel, or to catch out Trish during a super-jump.

In my opinion, The best way to use Arthur is to utilise the full variety of his arsenal; each one has its moment. The axe can catch people off guard and take up a lot of space, while the daggers and crossbow are great aerial tools. If not for the sake of different momentum, sometimes the little differences between each make all the difference. Saying that the lances are the same as the daggers is like saying Ken is identical to Ryu; yes, they’re both similar, but they’re used completely differently.

Since we’re talking about projectiles, does anyone use the scythe outside of combos? I never use it so I’m not sure if it’s worth the risk throwing one out.

Do lances absorb more hits than daggers when trading in a projectile war? Are you saying they’re the best option for ground?

Lances do have a higher durability so they will win out. they won’t beat hyper salt force but goddess b will negate it and set you up on adv.

What I like to do with one of my teams is call caps shield assist and jump scythe to full screen a possibilty at catching them.

In my experience, against characters like Morrigan, Drs. Doom and Strange, Phoenix Wright, etc, the only non-hyper that regular, dual lances lose to is Hawkeye’s piercing bolt - which can still be sidestepped with aerial crossbow if you predict it - but if you must beat that bolt, go into King’s Armour.

I’ve had Goddess’ Bracelet beat through Hyper Sodium Force before, but I have a hard time winning through when I call it on reaction (his hyper starts first). Any tips?

most sentinels have a tell when they are going to use HSF. All I can say is watch for their movements in the corner or when trying to pressure you into the back of the screen. If they are playing lame they usually call it out liberally. This is your chance to combat the hyper with bracelet and then throw two lances right after the hyper. If they are like most sents they will mouth laser and the lances will travel right through for easy hit confirms.

What about Axes, how useful are they really? Can they take more than 1 hit before being negated? They seem to cover a wide area but travel so slow.

Seems like i could just throw out daggers instead when trying to shut-down those getting in.
