You lack discipline oh foreign knight! The Arthur Thread

After a Goddess’s Bracelet you can launch your opponent, and maybe score a team aerial exchange.

The Silver Shield after a blocked Joust it’s funny as hell I agree, specially against those Dante players that mash c.:l:, if the get staggered by the shield they will be open for a Bracelet loop.

I didn’t know about launching after gb, that’s crazy. I actually haven’t tried going for a gb loop after counter either, I do the regular ground stuff into air stuff and whatnot. I’ll give it a shot next time.

What all is free after a shield stagger?

I’m not sure what you mean, but I think off shield stagger you can get either Goddess’ Bracelet or cr. :m:, st. :h:, :f: :h:, :s:, air series, otg bottle, GB.

or

cr. :m:, st. :h:, :f: :h:, :dp: :h:, bottle, scythe, joust, :s:, air series, bottle, GB.

I will be stealing all of this, especially the blocked f+H into shield setup. Thank you.

Really? You can link a cr.:m: off the shield stagger? And st.:m: has autoguard vs jump in attacks? :looney:

No problem. Let us know if it all works for you.

I don’t know if you’re being sarcastic, but I’ve definitely linked cr. :m: off stagger. I think I also tested it in training mode to make sure my opponent wasn’t just being dumb and not blocking. About the st. :m: autoblock, I saw it work a couple days ago but I’m not sure how it works. Has anybody messed around with it and its golden armor version?

I’ve gotten super armor from st. M before I think. It’s weird and I never really tested it. I used it by accident in arcade mode and it hit through something so I thought it had dumb priority. But after trying it against my training partner it seems to have super armor but I don’t use it that often so I’m not sure.

About the match-up thread, do you guys think we should get a more organized discussion going? I mean so that we can actually get some match-up writeups?

S.:m: apparently only autoguards on high attacks (and loses to low attacks), and about the match up thread regarding more organized discussion, yes, we should be, right now it’s very hard for me to keep track of the current situation about the match-ups because of my working schedule, however I will still be updating the post and inviting all of you to share information, questions and the like in the match-up thread, also I’ll fill basic information on the character spoilers just to give an idea of how the match should be played, and finally, just for the sake of not being messy, questions regarding teams should belong to the team-making thread and general information should be shared among the match-up thread and this one. Just an opinion.

Cheers and Huzzah!

Hey guys, just started picking up Arthur, and I have a few questions.

Daggers, or lances? I’ve been reading that you use daggers in the air and lances on the ground, but can anybody provide any tips on the thought process they go through for using these?

Does Arthur really need a good assist to zone well? I was thinking about making a Phoenix team, Arthur/Morrigan/Phoenix, and zoning with Arthur while spamming Morrigan’s hyper-meter assist between specials (and using Phoenix’s TK Trap assist to anti-air if needed). Do you think this is effective, or should I focus on getting an anti-air or zoning assist to help out? (Other favored choices to replace Morrigan are Doom, Sentinel, Hulk, Felicia, Magneto, Dante, Akuma, Wolverine, or anybody else with good assists or that don’t require much meter).

Lastly, what Arthur assist do you suggest? I just use fire bottle, but I’d like to hear other opinions.

Thanks,
Omicron

No, I genuinely did not know! I would never be sarcastic for things like that, there’s a lot I don’t know about this game. Thanks for the tip, I feel like good use of :f::d::df:+:l: for lows/mids and s.:m: for highs will define Arthur’s defensive game in the future

As Arthur I always prefer to have at least a good defensive assist to help me stay alive. I don’t know how good of an assist that TK Trap is, but test it out and see if it works for you. Just remember to Joust (:f: :h:) under super jumpers and pushblock. For daggers and lances, I basically do what you said. Air daggers, ground lances, because while air-born I can cover a wider area on the screen with 3 separate daggers than 2 lances, and on the ground other characters use their stronger projectiles anyways so it makes sense to use ours. Other than that I don’t have a specific method for it. As Arthur assist fire bottle will do good imo, since it helps with crazy Phoenix and Morrigan pressure.

No prob man. And I think you’re right about using st. :m: and silver shield for defense, too bad we don’t get too much off the autoblock on st. :m:. I guess we could just cancel into :dp: :m: or crossbow if that happens. I’ll be sure to mess with it for a bit next time I play the game.

Could someone with the Brady guide take a look at Arthur’s frame data and tell us on which frame st.:m:'s autoguard becomes active?

it starts on frame 13 and is out until frame 15 then recovery on frame 16 is no more autoguard

Thanks a lot, I didn’t expect to get a response so soon! So he only has auto-guard properties on the last two frames of s.:m:? Wow, that’s terrible

One more question, sorry to bother you, but what’s the start up on Shield Deflect? It looks like it’s between one to three frames.

its a 5 frame startup with 26 active frames

To put it simplier for s.m it has 3 active frames where it has a hit box, and has autoguard during those active frames, namely on frame 13, 14, and 15.

Thanks for the numbers. I figured it autoblocked late into the animation but I didn’t know it happened on the actual hitting frames of the move. So it’s guaranteed to never trade, I guess. I’m setting up my xbox to play right now so I’ll see if I can find something good.

and I found something very strange with dantes j.s, when I try to auto block it with arthurs s.m in training mode it never autoblocks/hits him, it always hits me except by nearly impossible timing, however, if I use arthurs command shield special the attack goes right through me, and I don’t get hit and he does not get stunned, but because of the recovery I can of course punish him for it. Can someone test this out and try to make some sense out of it?

Edit: never mind, just realised that when he does the teleport to launcher, he is too close for the shield to actually connect, but is still strange that he goes through the shield special

Been messing around with the autoblock in training mode. After I use it cancelling into :dp: :h: appears to be the safest option, it’s less punishable than :s: and it gets us a pretty beefy full combo if we hit. Seems alright for stopping many jumping attacks, but moves with a disjointed hitbox will not get hit with the shield after the autoblock. This means that in that scenario nobody wins unless the opponent mashes light attacks and gets hit by the follow-up.
