Yun’s a bad match up vs. anyone who can parry dive kicks well
My point was, despite the fact that Yun is forced to jump in, he can still kick Chun’s ass.
And the main point I’ve been trying to get across was that I think Remy isn’t as solid a character as most because capcom overestimated LOV zoning. Almost any character can get around it with parry, and once you’re in, hes at a disadvantage against anybody. Yes, I know some of his pokes are decent, but a few decent pokes on a weak character who cant deal damage seems like they were trying to balance for his zoning. I am well aware Remy can win, and have seen many people kick ass with Remy, but I also know hes worse than most other characters.
you CAN get chipped by lov’s, if you watch a match from any good remy there will be TONS of projectiles being thrown, and judging by how good the player is each projectile has a reason for being on the screen.
some might just be for the push back, some might be to PURPOSELY whiff, some might be to be parried and some are actually meant to land. his ex lov’s are fast enough to come out like chun st fierces if the distance is judged correctly. though remy needs to use the fact characters can parry as an advantage since he can move forward and mask offense with different distances/timing from dashes.
yea they can be parried but parrying gets the player nothing but meter cus a good remy is repositioning or setting something up (like someone said already). remy might not be a top character cus of his stun and health but i think those are the only things holding him back which should put him in the same status as hugo as one of those extreme characters you need to love playing their way inorder to do well with. he only takes such terrible damage and stun because he can do so much more from outside 99% of the rest of the cast’s farthest ranges.
i find the best wins i get are when i never get touched. and the way you dont get touched using remy is blocking the entries opponents have to score easy damage: be it a jump in because of his height, taking advantage of his projectile heights or the fact that a good remy is so mobile and can cover a wide range of space but once cornered cant depend on crouching as defense since that can make his charge moves more predictable (since he cant move while charging).
he’s not like guile/charlie and he’s not like sagat, once people get over that fact and just think of him as his own character then he’s pretty good if you take him serious. But, at the same time the same lessons learned from using projectiles with sim, guile, charlie and sagat reflects the same areas of thought when using projectiles to keep a hold on the ground you stand on without being pushed back and slowly inching forward backing the opponent up.
accompany that with the flexiblity the system allows with charge storage you have a character who can bounce around like vega claw, with as much spacial control with projectiles as sagat, but has as many charges as guile… imo.
Those characters were as good as they were because of their long range dominance. Remy is a character centered around his long range abilities. Sounds similar to me. He can do better than any other character at that range, but the way the game is made makes that strategy much less effective than in previous sf games, so obviously you can’t take a ST Guile pro and expect him to rule with Remy. I think Remy is a victim of the game mechanics. Remy would be a great character if it wasn’t for parry.
Anyway, EVERDRED, I’d like to hear your opinion on this. Obviously its all speculative, but do you think capcom gave remy such crappy defense and stun to balance out his long range game?
i think capcom gave him that cause hes gay and french
wft guy…WTF
i only lose while in range to get hit by some else’s shit, i dont think its a slip up on the remy’s fault more like a slip up on my part cus the options are there to keep someone out it just takes so much concentration and execution to keep everything together.
its like you play to always keep someone away and u only let up once you feel like letting the opponent in when you know how they will get in, once they are coming in thats when you get a counter (either by changing you head height for their jump in and replacing it with cr. fierce, or dashing in just out of srk range when you approach after lov for example). but if you dont cover everything then one slip up and no amount of charge skills or keep away hardcoreness will stop someone from doing assloads of damage on you. remy takes the same damage as necro. but has the same stun meter length as akuma. his stun bar recovery is alot faster than akuma’s though.
but i shouldnt associate him to guile or sagat cus remy does have a good fast backward/forward dash that amplifies the uses of his projectiles.
remy was supposed to be a “difficult/expert” character I think. and he plays that way, unforgiving, but still has some decent stuff if you’re willing to put the time and effort into him.
yea, capcom finally made a projectile keep away character that isnt gay. his name is Remy.
and how can people say remy is gay when vega goes around licking his fucking claws after he pokes black boxers with them all day???
Definitely, but not because hes crappy, but because of his charge moves. You have to constantly think 2 steps ahead of whats going on because you are going to need that charge if a punish situation comes up. If I was half decent at charge partitioning I’d play Remy a lot more.
I always thought Remy was kind of Metal…ok, I tried to ignore the dance club behind him…but still, I think hes pretty cool.
Here are some recent Remy matches with yours truly…

Remy is a difficult character to use. He has many many ins and outs. I have been playing 3s with Remy almost the whole time, so I know a lot about him. I do learn new shit everyday, and try to modified my game accordingly.
Pherai, if you ever want to test out some Remy skills against your Akuma, let me know.
that remy isn’t bad, but i don’t see remy being able to compete against mad top tiers. :S
I’ve played pyro quite a few times. I think he just sucks against remy, cause he falls for the most random shit. Everytime I’ve played him against Yun it comes down to 3rd round with literally no life each. I’ve played and beatin Amir’s Yun, but not sure if that’s saying much. I’ve also perfected more than once and beated Pyro’s Urien which supposed to be his second top character. I’ve only beaten Gootecks a few times, but again it comes down to 3rd round…that fucking mirror. I’ve played Slime Lord quite a few times, and so far he hasn’t been able to beat me once. I must be doing something right…that or I’m lucky most people can’t play against Remy.
EDIT
I’ve been PMing with Pherai. We’re more than likely going to meet sometime soon and tape his Akuma vs Remy since we live nearby. We’ll see how easy of a time he has playing such a garbage char =)
Agh, wtf, youtube is stupid. The video has stopped working. I hope it’s temporary =\
so you made a post about your sometimes wins against FFA kids in casuals. Casuals mean nothing sir.
True that. I totally agree. The poster above didn’t mention anything about tourney or casuals, he just said mad top tiers. I do think we could all luck out in casuals once or twice =(
if were just talking about the subject of Remy, the reason he is ranked where he is, is because of certain matchups. Sure Remy can space better than most characters and can actually give at least 1/2 the cast a solid run for their money. But, in my opinion, When remy has to deal with characters such as Makoto,Yang,Ibuki,Oro, and maybe Dudley and Ryu, things get ugly fast. Anyone of those characters have alot of options of getting to Remy and cause far to much stun. Winning those match ups is possible, but in a tournament environment your luck will run out sooner than later.
Dudley shouldn’t be a real problem for Remy. If you stay back and zone out with LOVs all day, really there’s not much Dudley can do to get in. Almost everytime I play someone who’s using Dudley and they see me pick Remy I get “oh shit.” If they do try to jump in you have a few options, especially if you’re charge partitioning. I’ve played Dudley’s in tourneys before, and I usually end up having to turtle the shit out of them FTW…unless they’re not very good, then I’m not afraid to rush them down.
Ibuki is the same deal. I’ve played Ibuki’s in tourneys as well, and I’ve never had a real problem. Ibuki has some nice combos, grabs and such, but you can EX RRF out of nearly half her shit…it’s awesome. I’ve never met an Ibuki that was a huge problem for Remy. This is in tourneys as well.
Makoto is kind of an iffy character, but I’ll keep her on the more trouble for Remy side. Yang, Oro and Ryu I will agree with, although each for their particular advantages (Slashes, chicken combo, stun damage specials =[)
Remy isn’t very good just cause he has to work too hard and too long to pull a victory out of his ass. Top-tiers are top-tier because they can do serious damage at a moment’s notice. Remy cannot. Remy can’t even do average damage at a moment’s notice because he has no practical hit confirm, and no painful combos. A Remy player can dance around like a princess the whole round, and only do 50%, while a character like Dudley can open you up in the corner and do 50%+ in one pop.
If you pick Remy fat chicks will be all over you.
