Updated the thread, maybe I’ll work on a few videos after my finals are up, I def want to get a few match videos on here.
Messing around with some Alex myself, and noticed a couple of things.
If you insta Dive, or Stomp, and it gets AG’ed, he can do HCB/Hyper Bomb for free, because Alex recovers off that shit almost instantly. Getting a insta Dive off is annoying for me with this though, cause sometimes he’ll still roll, but there has been times where he will just dive and not even roll on a AG.
Also, doing been doing goofy shit, like Elbow (Guard or AG’ed) > Bar Cancel > Dash >Throw to scare.
I like doing some of his unsafe shit just to Bar Cancel it to a throw or 360 (shame supers aren’t effected by Bar)
And did Headbutt throw into HCB/360 in the corner and seemed pretty unavoidable.
I just started working on team combos with Alex trying to get the 100% combo. No dice thus far, but I have come up with some doozies!
ALEX and CHUN LI (corner):
damage 34653: 9C, 2B, 5C, 6C, QCF+B xx BAROQUE xx dash in, 5B, 5C, 6C, assist, dash in, MEGA CRASH, 2B, 5C, 6C, QCF+B xx BAROQUE xx dash in, 5B, 5C, 3C /\ SJ.B xx Power Bomb

also, if you tag into Alex, and you hit your opponent, you can juggle them with:

Snapback works with any strentgh elbow rush btw.
so the 3rd strike player in me came up with a few stupid things with alex that i haven’t seen posted yet:
3C (whiff) xx kara cancel power bomb…

[]you can do this from almost half screen and be in range to connect. the real tricky thing is to do this in a poke string where the launcher whiffs and kara bomb while they wait for the hit
[]especially usefull it seems on small characters because the launcher will whiff at times it would have hit a large character (if i remember correctly, 2a 2a 2b 3C hits on soki for example, but not megaman)
[]the range is stupid, and considering you can cancel the whiff launcher at any point, you can do knee if you think they’ll jump, stun gun if you thing they’ll attack heavy, or flash chop to continue pressure, or stomp to gtfo

random:
if someone blocks his 2C, and then tries to dash in, just cancel the 2C into power bomb or whatever, depending on their movement
timing is really odd, but if you slow down his combo after a launch (j.a a b b c for example) the c will whiff, you’ll fly on the other side of them and while still in the air, and can kara cancel with an air power bomb (outside of the combo, meaning reset damage)
you can also slow j. a a b b after a launch, fall, and then juggle and reset with an ambigous 3C (his launcher seems to have a really wide hit box across the top of him and behind slightly)
it seems that after a power bomb you can get solid positioning for a iad j.C crossup.
i think alex has a lot of potential due to his stamina and ability to grab the giants. i was rocking karas/alex pretty hard which seemed to work well. alex does have a hard time with megaman though. the easy execution also caused me to get elbow alot when trying to flash chop (i tend to hold d/b during my low hits).
just something i found, you can cancel j.C into qcf+p, and if done early, alex will fall straight down. if done later, he’ll follow the path of the j.C dive, and if it touches the opponent, your partner will get tagged in. don’t think it’s of any use, but just throwing it out there.
funny reset:
combo into drop kick snap back, then call an assist as alex is laying down (i use ryu), then do the grounded roll towards the opponent
depending on the timing of the assist you’ll often cross up the opponent when the fireball hits, and get a full ground combo. if you press the assist a tiny bit earlier you won’t cross up

so alex is good in this game?
I think he is pretty good. He has a hell of a hard time approaching and fighting in general though, but if your opponent messes up they can easily end up eating a 50%+ combo.

Well I have a nice video example of Alex doing his stuff. The best part to watch is from 4:20 on, where you will pretty much see me getting my ass kicked until the magic happens. I’ve only just began to use Alex though, so I imagine that once you become really good at understanding how he works, he will be a complete beast. I’ve won a few matches in just 20 seconds, by landing a series of 20k+ damage combos back to back.

anyone agree that chun-li is Alex worst match up i have so much trouble fighting her any tips
I think karas is a much worse matchup for alex at the moment.
man once alex has 3 meters the whole dynamics of the match changes. i’ve gotten it off in the middle of block chains, landing from an air combo, pretty much works wonders when your opponent is aggressive.
i used to waste my meters with Jun as main but now holding 4 with her is just plain nasty. Level 1 super dhc into Super hyper bomb is too good.
Does Alex still have an infinite in the Wii version? If so would someone mind explaining to me how it’s done?
The infinite the stungun infinite was possible because super hits gave you meter in the evo build. that isn’t the case anymore, thank god.
I think Alex is GREAT so far. You have to run away from him. Hopefully, that won’t get easier as the game grows.
also at evo the stun gun didnt put the opponent in that “semi grounded” stagger thing where the next hit put them airborne
also stun gun used to do way more damage
i have a strong feeling this game is going to eventually become a turtlefest. it’s so hard to realistically stop people from just holding up/back, and add the overall unsafe-ness of attacking in this game (even most B attacks can be punished on block), and frequency of megacrushes, and you have a recipe for a defensive game
of course, maybe some character is going to be discovered to have retarded offense, but it doesn’t look likely
Overheads are underrated right now and nobody is taking throws yet. Also, everyone from what I’ve seen can IAD and hit overhead, which may or may not turn ut to be a big deal in the long run.
Turtle fest? I can also see that happening. I noticed right off top how unsafe were alot of moves are, obviously to encourage the use of BCs. But the fact that so many things can be empty canceled I can see this turning into a big guessing fest once payers reach high level.
I have confidence in the offensive side of the game, however.
Actually, that’s why I see potency in alex. Blocking so far seems almost too good, and he does insane damage that beat blocks.
Then again, I’m starting to wonder if it’s at a safe to try and punish normals in this game.
yeah, but just holding up/back seems to beat almost anything alex is going to do. even if alex chains into sweep you still have time to jump up and airblock the sweep
the only things alex is going to do to discourage you from jumping are:
- random dp, which cannot be airblocked (only has to be done randomly midscreen, in corner can probably do on reaction)
- air throw attempt, but if you get a blocked jumping C you’re dead
- guess and jump power bomb, but if you guess wrong you’re getting launched
maybe midscreen you can jump forward, see the opponent jump back, then dp on reaction?
and connected dps don’t get you any sort of wake up mix up
