York University/Seneca @ York SF Players

Room 101a in Mclaughlin College at York is open. Has a pull down screen, 2-3 outlets. All it needs is a projector or a couple monitors and consoles, oh and fightsticks and pads.

Also, the lounge room at Mclaughlin has a tv and a ps3, I always bring UMVC3 to play with people there. The room number is 116 I believe, just beside the JCR below MAC college.

As for set up, I have a couple fight sticks at home, 1 pad, umvc3+vanilla(if you wanna run some throwbacks) and SSF4 AE. I have a couple friends on res willing to bring their monitors. Maybe we should arrange a meet up.

LETS GET FUCKING HYPE.
So do you guys really wanna get good at Street Fighter/Marvel?

I’ve been looking at this thread for a year and a half but I didn’t know you peeps were around :frowning: I wish I could play sf at school too.

York/Seneca @ York has a potential to be like the Fighting gamers at UCI (where they produce and practice with top players). The thing about Fighting gamers at UCI they have a very close knit/consistent crowd of sf players and following this thread… you guys seem dedicated and thats what you need to get good at SF, a passionate and dedicated group of players who just want to get better/learn more about the game.

I’m no top player, but I am learning and I would like to inspire and help others get into SF too, because its not just a fun hobby. Its a damn life style. A fun and exciting one at that. I’m not the best but I like to inspire students at york/Seneca@york to play too because thats all I have to offer. A passion for fighting games that I love to share with others.

I started to speak with some of the older/top players around the community and apparently they’re at york too but this group was just not known. I attended Art fundies last year and I didn’t know this even existed. But. IF we could get something started, this could be the start of something bigger and I know the good players attending this school would actually love to help others learn, as long as they are willing to.

Chaos2d/Tofu Warrior/Italdan/Aaerox all attend this school and they didn’t know about this, and these are some solid damn players. (Chaos is a sponsored player, Italdan places in tournament and Aaerox is a pad gief that will standing 720 your ass). They love to play the game and they definitely would love to see the community grow into something bigger. They’re also nice guys. They share the passion I have, and I think they don’t mind sharing it with you guys.

If we help each other and make this gathering a normal, consistent thing, we could make this a bigger gathering and best of all it will be because of you guys. You guys do want to learn and get better right? why not use your resources :P. Getting to school is easier for a lot of people than heading to the west end of waterloo or the east end of scarborough, or even downtown. A lot of the people in the fighting game community aren’t scary people either we just wanna play.

So lets discuss, lets take this more seriously. Remember we’re in it for the long haul.

What days/times are more convenient for people. Winter semester, hope for a new change.

Oh and remember, we might start out small, but it takes time to grow this into something bigger :stuck_out_tongue: You guy think Tuesday would be a good day? since… wednesday is AnC/Heroes World. Thurs and Fri is TOSFHQ.

This is the kind of hype we need!

**[For anyone with concerns about my earlier post] **The thing is, when I said that this room in mclaughlin is free, I meant that noone is ever in it and we could probably use it, so no where did I say this would be a club, I was initially just trying to get a starting point for us. When we gather, THEN we could discuss making it into a club because I heard and probably saw on this forum that it’s quite difficult to start a club @ York.

@nGuman
I really think we need to act quick on this because before you know it, were studying for our finals. What we need to do is meet up, get to know each other, probably hang out somewhere that we can play sf/marvel/kof or whatever and then we can establish a room. If we just talk about it on the forum then we’ll get even more lazier, we need to realize there are good/experienced and learning players out there that have the same goals as us, this will get us hyped.

So guys, try to come to room 116 McLaughlin when the winter break starts, we need to establish ourselves amongst each other, as well as see who has what equipment. Originally, room 116 at MAC is a lounge room where very friendly MAC students and other colleges gather and play games or just hang out. They usually play other games as well mainly FIFA, Super Smash Bros/Melee and when I demand to play … Marvel. The room has a schedule on the door so if it’s closed just see when it’ll be open. I’m always there especially on tuesdays (when I’m off). Worst case scenario, if you’re there and don’t see me, small asian guy with long hair, then you’re stuck in an awkward position. So it would be best for everyone to agree on a time to meet.

I myself am a very experienced UMVC player. I play with a lot of people in Brampton and could, even now, probably be considered one of the best. I am very eager to help anyone and everyone as it is my passion and I find that when you help out people, you get a better sense of yourself. So cmon guys lets get this started! I just wanna play lol

I might even pop by today…
I currently attend Seneca @ York will I be allowed in?

We have to establish a date too, I think Tuesday’s really good since it doesn’t come into conflict with the 3 other venues.
Also, lol, well we can establish equipment list here.
I can carry a TE stick for 360, and I can bring a copy of UMVC3,

EDIT: It’ll be good if we get everything organized before the break and start participating after since… its exam time right? :stuck_out_tongue:

As well, yo you one of the best? thats some strong words bro. Lets see that shit.

Oh, the lounge watchers are off duty for the christmas holidays. There always has to be someone in there from council in order for it to open BUT you can go see where it is so when you contact me you know where to go.

@ your edit:
Yeah true, it would be good nonetheless to meet up before establishing something big.

lol, yeah judging by what everyone says. Yo ima show you and not even mash, mashing is for scrubs. (alongside the fact I am still unaware of which hypers are mashable.)

If anyone wants to play, today Allori, Chaos2d and I will be at York U/Seneca @ York around 2:00pm-3:00pmish. If you’re done your finals/or are eagerly waiting that dreadful exam. Come by, play some Street Fighter 4/Marvel vs Capcom 3 to take your mind off and learn a new thing or two.

First Unofficial YorkU/Seneca @ York Gathering: York Fighter 4 EXAM EDITION

Will keep you posted on the room location. If you’re more interested, please leave me a message with your name and number and I’ll definitely get back to you. and please bring some equipment if you have.

EDIT:

START TIME: 2:00pm-3:00pmish
** LOCATION: The HIVE** in the Stephen E Quinland building. On the 2nd floor above the cafe. It is the only bar in the building. Drop by and play some games guy.

Come out and play!

^What Ngu said. Exams are almost over (for some) so we should get people who are interested and available to come meetup and establish something with what we have. Sem 2 starts on Jan 9th at seneca and that’s probably the best time to bring exposure and awareness to expand the group. I know some people too who wants to get into street fighter and whatnot.

Bah, its to bad I’m working today! Otherwise, I would be down. Regarding about the winter semester, we should gather everybody’s school schedule to organize and figure out things.
Also, someone has to guide me through seneca lol

After the winter break we should start being more active about this. Would Tuesday be a good day for everyone? The guys I’ve talked to thought it was a good day since a.) it doesn’t come in conflict with any of the other venues (such as TOSFHQ/A&C World/Heroes World/Microplay) b.) its tuesday, they seem to be free on that day.

I’ll keep you guys posted in the new York U/Seneca at York Thread i’ll create about when we will be having casuals. But as a survey, who would/will be participating in these? Non-York students are welcomed.

i wana reach message meh!

Yea i’m down for this, didn’t know there was a whole gaming movement right next door. Is it still going on this Tuesday?

Damn! I have class until 3:15 on Tuesdays in Seneca@York, but we all hang out in the Hive anyway. If it’s in the Hive on Tuesdays, if people are willing to run past 3:15, I’ll be there for sure once the new term starts (I’m in Asia for the break, honing my skills with the awesome community here).

Btw who goes to A&C World? I played some great sets with Gar at Gamercamp when I was working there, and he definitely sold me on heading there on Wednesdays.

Edit: As for equipment, I play AE, Third Strike and BlazBlue on 360. I’m pretty experienced and good at AE but I suuuuuuuuuck at Marvel and pretty much everything else lol. I’ve got three Qanba sticks for 360, 2 with sanwa parts but one of them is probably gonna stay here in Asia.

I get back from Asia on Jan 8th (I’m meeting Yoshi Ono at AGS this weekend!), and I really look forward to meeting y’all and playing!

Put me down on this.

Guys please check out the new thread and post in it, that will be the new and active York Fighting Gamers thread. We will be having casuals tomorrow at the hive at 1:30 please come

Link?

If anyones on campus today, come to mclaughlin college room 016, it’s right below the office. Were running some umvc3 sets… only pads tho.

We get together to play fighting games and to meet new people. Email Juan Carlo Rebanal at jc17@yorku.ca for more info - come to a meeting to join! (Mondays 5-6:30pm, Tuesdays 5-6:30pm, Wednesdays 6:30-8pm at Martin Family Lounge - 2nd floor of ACE)

Description
The Fighting Games Club at York’s Keele campus aims to create a community of people who know and share the thrill of fighting games. Through fighting games, values of self-improvement, peer communication and self-control will be developed for use in other areas of life outside the virtual ring. Everyone from the casual to the competitive can gain something here, through the opportunities to create meaningful friendships and even friendly rivalries that this club will create.
