"Yoga noogie that poop." Dhalsim General Discussion

I think a found another use for it yesterday. Is EX scissors unsafe on block at a certain distance? Like, say, blocked scissor, into EX scissor to blow thru your counter poke? I was able to punish this in a online match yesterday, not sure if it works caus its online, but will test.

EX scissors are unsafe. I think it’s basically just the RH version but with invulnerability at the beginning, so I imagine short slide would punish.

funny thing is, I could never get the b.MK xx Flame until I did the flame as a 360. Now I get it all the time.

I’ve been doing back+short (same extremely small startup time but easier to cancel out of and much faster recovery) after blocking all strengths of scissors lately, and it seems like it stuffs all of Dictator’s normal post-scissors options. You can cancel out of it into fierce fire too, but I kind of worry that Dictator will go into ex scissors or something right then, which I’m pretty sure he’ll have enough charge time for by then.

Anyone try Meaty DB.Fierce? I love the move, it stuffs so much shit. I’ve been experimenting with it as a meaty and then linking to B.Forward.
I’m trying to find new stuff to add to my game, since quick rise fucks my fireball traps up.

Point blank meaty down-back+fierce is good, link it right into super if you have it or into back+forward xx flame if you don’t.

Yeah I love DB.Fierce super, since you literally have all day to hit confirm it.

Yeah, I’ve been doing that a lot too. I’ve been throwing it out there even when Bison has EX meter to try to see if he can EX scissors thru it, and it seems like he cant. It’s only happened to me like once or so and thats b/c maybe i was a frame too late?

i find that a lot of times the yoga flame (in that above combo) doesnt hit unless i hit them in specific situations (theyre in the corner and eat the fierce on wakeup,) or if they jumped behind me and preemptively throw tech, eating a fierce into the rest of the combo. If I’m too far away I’ll just do nothing after b. forward, or instant overhead if i feel like it heh.

ok so, i have a series of questions, im not going to read 14 pages of convo, it says i cant search more than one word for the next 2147483638 seconds, so dont bite my head off if these have been answered (thats probly why ppl start new threads)

-ight, im trying to learn dhal cuz noone uses him, he’s got some sweet combo’s n what not, n he’s just pretty cool in general

-how do u even begin using this guy? (trials were a minor help, but not much)
-it seems he takes crazy amounts of damage, low defense?
-i cant find a general attack that does decent damage for the life me, suggestions?
-is it just me, or does fei long completely rape dhal in every situation?
-seth is a #$%^&*…
-seth is a hoe
-seth is a bitch
-seth is a (input the worst thing u can think of right now)

help ne1?

Id say Im about an average Sim player so I’ll try to help.

I supposed to learn Sim you gotta get used to not jumping in and bashing the opponent. Learn how far his limbs reach, and the hitboxes of his b.XX normals. Also learn how to Instant Air Teleport (theres a FAQ in the Sim subforum) as this helps a lot to his game (LP Yoga Fire, IAT, b.HP). Be patient and learn how safe what moves are from what distance (eg, from jump in distance, Projectiles are usually not safe, standing MP would be a better option).

Yeah he has low stamina and his close up game is one of the worst, so just gotta learn to block and tech throw, then punish to push them back out of your face.

I think his best general attacks that do alright damage would probably be standing fierce, air fierce, air b.fierce. Just keep attacking with these moves and they’ll eventually die. Also, a nice combo is b.MK xx LP Flame, although that takes a while to get the execution right. An easy way to do that is to go from b to df then b. Its an easy way to do the HCB.

I think the only reason Fei does so well against Sim is because hes a close range fighter, and Sim sucks close range. If you can keep him out of range and anticipate his moves then it should be an easy fight, since his only move that closes distance (that I can think of now) is his Chicken Wing.

And yes, Seth is a bitch. Play it really safe against him and just wait for him to whiff/miss moves and punish.

If any of this info is wrong feel free to add to/correct it.

PS: Oh yeah, iplaywinner and Eventhubs have some good info on his moves, properties and general strats for him.

So I gotta say, I’ve never entirely taken a liking to Dhalsim in other Street Fighters (it’s always been one of those I-enjoy-this-in-theory things that never really made it to the practical), but I am loving his SF4 incarnation. Ultra games and teleport mixups (once one gets over the IAT execution barrier) add so much variety to his game. The head games are great.

I’m still finding him difficult to win with, but it’s getting easier as I learn to take it easy and play slow.

Question: any tips on getting out of the corner? Obviously, the best one is “Don’t get stuck there in the first place”, but that’s not always possible. I find I mostly go for all-out defense until an opportunity for backthrow or knockdown presents itself, but against players with strong, confusing pressure, I usually can’t hack it and end up gambling on a sweep and getting eaten. Jump-over teleports are sort of useful, but not that safe because his jump’s so slow… is there anyone in particular whose anti-air’s bad enough to let you get away with that? I’ve had some luck doing that against Abel and Vega.

For getting out of the corner, instead of sweeping them perhaps just try using his b.XX normals to push them back a bit and then once theyre about a full screen away throw a LP Fire and do the teleport mix up. Then you can slowly push them into the corner. Of course, when you get to the other one you’ll probably have to do it again. Or, you could wait for them to cross you up, block correctly then do the back Teleport to the other side of the screen

if they try crossing you upp it also seems like a good idea to mk.slide under their jump to get out of the corner.

Like above poster said, D. MK slide out of the corner, though you should really only do that once they’ve pushed themselves back a lot from trying to combo you with pokes, or slide when they try to cross you up because weak jabs for starting up combo’s with most other characters start up faster than the slide and cancel your slide if they are in range of hitting you. If you manage to hit them with a slide, Back + grab them immediately so that they’re the one whose in the corner and space yourself away from them.

I actually don’t play Dhalsim, but I should…He looks too damn fun. On to my question though. That fucking anti-air of his(B+HK)…What aerials CAN beat that move? Shit’s insane, I love it.

Vega’s regular fierce aerial (don’t know which one) can actually beat it with claw because of it’s range and it’s one of vega’s higher priority moves. Can’t say for sure about other characters, but a well timed Ryu Fierce Aerial may trade hits. For the most part though, it does beat a lot of aerial approachs and it’s quite insane :r.

I copy what I see good players doing. Generally, that means back + LK/MK a couple times into standing LK after you’ve pushed them away a bit. I don’t even attempt a knockdown with roundhouse sweep or slide because those moves are so easily punished at close range. His punches don’t seem to have the priority of his kicks at close range either.

Depends on the angle of the jump in and how early they do the attack.

hey whats the difference between yoga mummy and (i forgot the name) the one where he goes feet first?

Yoga Spear? Yoga spear goes downward toward the ground, Yoga Mummy goes head first and travels down-right or left until you hit the ground. Both moves aren’t that great cause of their recovery time and how punishable they are, but Yoga mummy can knock down someone whose in the air. Don’t know about Spear.

Just a quick question about Dhalsim’a Super Combo: Yoga Inferno.

His best set up is Instance Air Teleport, BnB cancel into Yoga Inferno. Is there any other ways to bait your opponent into jumping into it? I find that his Yoga Inferno can determined the whole match if you hit them with it.
