Honestly, Guilty Gear X to Guilty Gear XX has been the only significant change. As someone mentioned before, they need team element or something to freshen this series.
Or do some crossover. Guilty Gear has the best engine for crossovers.
There’s no official news of any new characters yet. The info earlier about Raven and Judgment were just rumors. Doesn’t mean that there won’t be any though. Order-Sol wasn’t in the first beta, and if ArcSys really wants this to be considered the next game then they’ll probably add at least one.
OK, This is definitely much more than a revision, that’s for sure. New art, new character selection screen, all the minor things that don’t really effect the game were somewhat refreshed, and of course, new gameplay elements were added. Yes, you can make a “sequel” while keeping the same sprites. Now all we need is at least 1, maybe 2 new characters. Also, I still wonder why they still intend on keeping the XX in the name. I guarantee most people that if this game was just called Guilty Gear Accent Core, than it would be regarded as a real sequel instead of a revision.
In response to the two above posts: Usually when you do make a new installment, it’s pretty much a given you add some people, major changes or not. They may be leaving the XX in the title because that’s the game that really made the series take off, and/or removing it may cause some people to think it’s a different type of game (Isuka, Dust Strikers, Judgment). It’s also likely they’re trying to avoid calling it Guilty Gear XXX, but I’d think Guilty Gear X3 would be ok.
My wallet also says fuck you to Sammy. Yes, I own 21398120 versions of the same Street Fighter Game, but that’s only ok when capcom does it. Sammy can go to hell.
What!? Faust’s spring causes knock down? That’s some gay ass shit right there, no more gatling to Go My Way, it’s the only decent combo he had… Looks like this’ll be the first Guilty Gear where Faust actually isn’t top tier.
I really think these naming conventions could hamper the game’s popularity among casuals. Sure, the hardcore fans know what’s up, but what about the guy who just thinks it looks like a fun game and wants to get the latest version? X? XX? #Reload? Slash? Isuka? Accent Core? What? Christ, just stick a fucking number on the end of it.
So you’re willing to pay for endless rehashes of the same game instead of something that’s actually new and different. If you’re going to speak with your wallet you need to have something worthwhile to say first.
There better be new characters, having just the old characters change is pretty retarded. Plus going by teh new look of the moves they deffintly dont animate well, so all that wasted time better have been on new characters. New moves look fucking snk vs capcom bad.
i’ve said this many times on dust loop forums too, but you can’t really look at specific loss of character traits and combos from slash to accent-core and call that a “nerf”.
this is a new game, and most of new damage maximizing combos, new effective okizeme, etc. won’t be discovered until the game will be in official operation for 2~3 months in the arcades. it was silly for people to balk and cry at changes when slash was still at beta testing stage last year, and likewise it is not wise of people to say stuff like “oh aaa can’t do bbb in this ccc situations anymore!! nerf!! unplayable!!” just according to what we see in location testing vids and japanese bbs so far.
especially since accent-core takes a significant leap compared to past couple of installations in the series in terms of game mechanics, there is still a lot of things that we don’t know.
Faust revolves around throwing items and glattling into Go My Way… Without it, theoretically, he’s lost… I can’t imagine Arc wanting him top tier again… Maybe he’ll have an EX pogo spring that doesn’t cause knock down… Also jumping into instant pogo looks pretty cool. Not sure how effective it’ll be but it does look interesting…
