Ye Olde English Pub: The Dudley Social

Very interesting find logan. This could change the matchup.

good find but i’d still use U2 in this MU. yes hes going to do some cr. HP but not that much cuz hes going to be rushing your ass down since they know duds has bad defense, and all you need is one bad timed dive kick to punish wid U2

You can’t punish near the ground dive kicks with U2

cant tell if you guys are trolling…

Ha, that is a nice find! You could always punish a blocked cr.HP with EX MGB, but to punish on hit is very nice.

In addition, after a blocked Messiah Kick, you can duck underneath his three follow-ups, and then punish with Ultra 1 then too.

I agree that against Rufus, U2 isn’t super useful. You can tag it to combos, but his stun is so low that regular BnB’s do most of the work for you. That said, any combo you tag a U2 to the end of will result in an untechable knockdown, which then allows you a free safe-jump opportunity. So that is a good argument for using it.

Anyway good info, and I think I’ll experiment with using this ultra myself in this matchup now.

As the others have said, great find. I tested this out in training mode and it really does work, I guess it wouldn’t hurt to add that it doesn’t have to be a reversal for this to connect either.

Yeah, using only Ultra 1 in every fight for the past few days lets you see some cool stuff this Ultra can actually do.

On block you have A MILLION YEARS to hit Rolling Thunder, but if Rufus catches you walking forwards with cr.HP you still have 3 frames to land it. It’s really useful, and I am in agreement with Golden Gunman, you can do enough damage with BnBs to Rufus to not need that extra damage.

Rufus has below average stun as well.

U2 might be able to punish any EX Messiah follow up but it’s a read and Dudley can get punish hard if he decides no follow up and your U2 is blocked.

Ultra 2 loses to a delayed LK follow up

The belly flop ender has invincibility?

Ah no, it is the delayed LK that beats EX Jet Upper.

I knew there was a reason you can’t mash out reversal Ultra 2 though… if Rufus does the HK overhead ender for Messiah Kick, Ultra 2 makes dudley walk forwards and Rufus sails harmlessly overhead landing behind you for a free punish of his choosing.

So Ultra 2 isn’t ‘guaranteed’

You can backdash, but that wont punish no follow up.

Ugh, i’ve hit the “Dudley Wall” in terms of my progression. Seems like most of the people I beat online I could probably beat with any character (i.e. they’re just bad players) and the good players stop me dead in my tracks. It’s not an execution issue, I’m very confident in my execution, it’s just things like a T Hawk mashing SPD during my blockstrings and crap like that. A Balrog getting me into the corner and just throwing out a jab every now and then (wtf can I do here when he has life lead?).

Sigh

This damn character…too much work

This is not possible.

You are correct, I went to training mode to confirm it. Apologies, as I really hate giving out incorrect information. I have actually done it many times in matches, and believed it be a genuine punish, but it isn’t.

You can whiff punish the move with EX MGB, however.

Any ever try to play Dudley in a weird “only mixup way”? Like lock them down with normals and keep them guessing overhead or cr LK combos into sHK > duck and then make them guess overhead or cr LK again.

It’s not exactly the best way to play Dudley but it is really fun and funny to watch how people squirm and try to get out of this. Dudley can get a stun so fast from normals alone.

What happened to the Marn thread? I was planning on reading that for some Dudley advice. :frowning:

I recently decided to get back into SSF4 a little with Dudley. He’s really refreshing compared to Rufus. Even when you’re watching Justin Wong play with that guy, it’s just not very interesting… With Dudley, he seems to require concentration far higher than a dial-a-combo machine…

That said, he’s still not as fun as Dan, but I actually want to win matches and Capcom says that Dan’s not allowed to do that, so…

It doesn’t really work on people that like to press buttons. Against better players it’s very effective if you condition them right.

I hope Dudley gets some more frame advantage on a few of his normals. Cody is so much better at keeping up pressure than Dudley is. Not to mention all of his normals are pretty God-like.

lol U2 beats Ryus U2.
If you do your u2 and the ryu counters with his u2 your will hit.
happened to me yesterday when i was playing casuals with some friends…

a ryu using U2… thats funny as hell
