whle I want a bigger community I am going to say good riddance if people drop this game. Last thing we need is those who do care for the game mingling with those who don’t.
my sixth button is wired to an analog trigger, which the game seems to not accept for input. hopefully nobody notices i can’t low parry
that is a terrible attitude to have
Typical short sightedness. Putting looks and polish over functionality and content.
No basic comprehension of what it actually takes to make a video game
I’ve been messing around with Azure in training for a bit he seems a lot of fun, though i’ll probably work my way through a few other characters to see who i’ll end up sticking with.
Blah I meant story mode. The menu stuff I can understand. It isn’t an actual critique, just closer to an emotional reaction. At the end of the day if the gameplay is good, then all is good.
All the presentation in the world didn’t help Injustice. Although hella people did buy it for story mode.
I’ve played it for a couple hours now and I love how it feels. I get what people say about the visual presentation, but I’d rather have quick functionality than SF4’s lack of features and load times. Function over form and all that. Music’s not that bad either.
The online lobby system could really use some improvements though. A lot of shit isn’t outright explained to the player and you end up flailing a bit until you figure out how to join people. I’m not that tech savvy, so I’m not 100% on the whole port thing, or what it means to change the global IP address. Ranked is weird too, it seems like you have to join arcade or training mode, and then when someone shows up in your match, I don’t know what to do to back out and play them. I didn’t figure out how to change input delay until recently, but it would be cool if it gave suggestions like Skullgirls.
Hopefully they can take something from how Skullgirls set up its online system when they release the GGPO patch. Except actually make the lobbies work correctly this time.
I really hope we can keep this game afloat though. A fighter like this is worth it imo in a world of more combo-oriented fighters, not that it’s a bad thing.
Fucking love that game!
Probably gonna make it my main game until SFV comes out, since it seems to teach one good execution habits.
One question for you pros though:
I’m playing and doing trials with Crow at the moment, and while all the combos seemed practical and useful up to this point, trial 10 kinda baffles me because it involves both super combos.
Since you only get to choose 1 super combo at the start of a match, why the heck something like this is in the trials?
You choose what super you want buffed, not which super to use.
Thanks man, I’m an idiot.
Messed around with all the characters, think I’ll stick with Azure for now. After playing with his normals I’ve been mucking around with buffed Super1 setups (as I’m not sure about Super 2 specifics yet). It’s basically a souped up Hidden Missiles. Right now you can toss one out on a knockdown or even just in neutral, move in and do a mixup; if it hits then:
Azure:2HK>Shunjunrankujin2>2HP>Shunjunrankujin2>2HP>MueikyakuEX*2>RokumonShihosyoH>HP 11Hit(27598)
Take 2k off if you go overhead instead of low, you want to walk forward slightly after you connect the first normal (while the super strikes), and you need to dash into the Roku then SJCancel or just jump into a j.HP outside of the corner.
Edit: Apparently while getting hit by the Super 1 you don’t have pushback, so I’m just linking 2HP to my heart’s content (granted, it is a 1 frame link).
Azure:2HP>Shunjunrankujin2>2HP>Shunjunrankujin3>2HP2>MueikyakuEX2>RokumonShihosyoH>JHP 13Hit(30383)
Is this normal corner damage? Granted, this is off a mid hit, but 27k (seeing if I can get 3x 2HP of a low/OH) is pretty crazy, even if it is 1.5 bars
Swag combos using Super 1 as an ender! Just do anything into EX Flipkick then Super 1 (LP) outside of the corner for the maximum damage (I’m doing j.HP 2HP 2HP as you can’t link a third if you jump in and jHP does more than 2HP); in the corner you’re better off with EX Roku x2 into LP Roku.
Really, 2HP is a damn fine poke. Not the fastest at 8 frame, but it’s got damn fine reach and you can hit confirm into itself.
Still not sure how to use his teleport.
Super 1 setups tend to happen after a throw into the corner
Basic poke string is 2LK LP, on hit confirm into LK Flipkick. On block you’re +5. You can also do the target combo in the corner for a knockdown, but they can quickrise so I don’t think you can safejump (haven’t tested). Both heavy buttons are good pokes. LK is fast but you get nothing out of it (can cancel into a flipkick if you don’t think they’ll parry or reversal as a frametrap that gets you closer). Pressure with target combo is also decent. His fireball is there to act as a sonic boom to walk behind and I’m not quite sure what to use his air fireball for (you can TK it to either cross up or not as well and combo out of it for some damage).
Okay, one more max damage combo off corner throw oki. You do a throw into the corner (duh) then LP+HP Super 1. Neutral jump and
Azure:JHP>Shunjunrankujin>2HP>Shunjunrankujin3>2HP>Shunjunrankujin>2HP2>MueikyakuEX2>RokumonShihosyoH2 14Hit(36422)
Still the commentary and user interface are so awkward, it’s like they want the game to commercially fail.
It’s like you’re dating this kind of interesting looking woman and the first thing she does when she meets you is fart really loud and tells you that she ate too many beans.
After talking to her for a while you find out that she’s pretty smart and when you fuck her you realize she’s a dirty whore you want to spend more time with.
But you know, 95% percent of the people dating her will never get that far because the first thing she did was fart really loud…
I just wish they kept the UI consistent. The fonts seem to keep changing from menu to menu. Some words used are really wonky as well. Like what the hell is DICE in the public lobbies? Is is an RNG for who gets to play next? Commentary heads and text need to be downsized as well. What a weird thing to advertise as a main feature. Also need more resolutions, which would help some of the menu clutter. Like how the “Failed to join lobby” message is often covered up by other lobbies. These were easy fixes that should have been taken care of, but came second to actual gameplay. Reminds me of Skullgirls on release. It’s a shame that most people won’t understand the origins of the game and will write it off as trash without understanding why it’s good.
They needed an English quality control helper to straighten out the obvious goofball shit. Most of this stuff can and should be patched pretty easily in the future.
On the bright side, I spent the last hour playing ranked matches and the connections have been really good. The game itself is really fun, and it’s satisfying to jump in, parry the anti-air and short short super people like in 3S again. Too bad most randoms won’t crack open the pineapple to get at the meat.
I’ve been digging the game a lot. Primarily trying to focus on learning Jet at the moment. I really like the parry system, but its a little awkward to hit the buttons on my stick. I have them current bound to the right side of the buttons, maybe I should try the left side?
Online match making seems pretty solid, I’ve ran into some lag even with low pings, but the frame delay helps matters.
Some challenge combos seem impossible. Like… they can’t actually be done. Like one that starts with a down-Heavy punch launcher, and is followed up with a jumping hard kick. the kick doesn’t come fast enough to connect.

Try super jump cancelling. Remember this is 3S.

I would say it like judging a good book by a shitty cover, but that fart shit works too.
The game feels pretty good I think I can see myself playing this, and I like parries have actual consequences now
So far I’m liking it. But if ever there were a game that needed a tutorial, this is it.
Probably the thing I like least about it is limited chains/target combos for certain characters, the grainy resolution of the sprites, and only 4 attack buttons.
But I need to play against more people and see some video to see how much depth there is to the game. Most of the depth seems to be in the system mechanics not the character movelists.
I’m hoping that the parry mechanic definitely adds a more robust feel to the game.

So how the fuck do you play this shit online? What ports do I need to open? Every time I try to join a lobby it fails.
What exactly does the super art select do?
It boosts the damage by like 10 or 20%

The challenges are pretty good at getting you an idea of what combos are useful and what chains or combos into what at least.
