go get your keys, donators
I’ll be streaming/playing/blah blah
Also don’t forget this
Man, really should have contributed more. Now I gotta see if I can wrangle a key from my contacts (hey, it worked for KoF).
They just streamed a 10-man tourney of Yata on LevelUpLive for TheRunBack yesterday.
It looks more appealing that I thought, although a few games in they found the speed was off and the changed it. I prefer the higher speed they had, as pressure was more of a factor instead of mind games.
Not gonna lie, this game currently looks like it could have been made in Mugen, and a lot of people have been turned off due to how it looks combo’d with it being an anime fighter. As far as I’ve seen, it’s the most legit anime fighter, and I actually am interested in it, especially since it’s coming out on steam.
“Anime fighter” is such a stupid term. This game is pretty much Third Strike with 4 attack buttons like KOF, but somehow it’s “anime.” Don’t even know how “pressure” and “mind games” are mutually exclusive. How is it more legit than any other fighting game out there?
My mind is blown that you can think Yata looks Mugen and Anime. Regardless, the WNF tournament was filled with sloppy play. Hopefully, the level of play increases as the weeks go on.
It blows my mind how many people seem to think stuff like Street Fighter and KOF aren’t Anime. Shit is hilarious. Dudes brainwashed themselves.
Yatagarasu is pretty much the most non-anime fighting game out there. No bullshit, just footsies and reads.
I guess some people could be turned off by the art style or the fact that the name is in Japanese, but who cares about people like that anyway? Those aren’t the type of people who come out for tournaments.
The winner was a friend of mine, and I am going to try to get some time off to go and compete myself. The game only has a handful of people that can show it off at a decent level anyways (and my showing at evo was pretty awful regardless even if I won, my eyes were burning from the dry heat/staring at CRTs for hours on end), and there’s only a couple people in Cali who I think could even demonstrate.
I’m sure the level of play will improve with time though, most people had only touched the game for the first time that day.
EDIT; ForsakenM I would suggest you research the term anime fighter, and there was a lot of positive feedback from the people at EVO who were playing on a sped up version as well. To be honest, I think it’s kind of insulting to the devs to tell them to speed their game up 2x as if it were too slow or something, I just chalk that up to people who haven’t played the game or played against anyone decent though, the game has a very good pace.
It’s pretty anime and Jojo’s, but that’s why “anime fighter” is such a shitty term. Is “anime fighters” “anime” because it has airdashes and more emphasis on the air spacing game? Is it “anime” because of aesthetic design? Is the term “anime” coined because of the false correlation between “anime waifu/chuunibyou” aesthetic with air game emphasis?
Then there isn’t one definition of the term, but many people are functioning as if everyone else is using a single unified definition when it isn’t the case.
In regards to aesthetic design, SF and KOF are really inspired by Japanese animation and comics of their era. In regards to being an “anime airdash, tons of system mechancis” type of game, they’re more ground based and emphasizes walking as the best means of movement and getting leads based on encouraging over extension of pokes and whiff punishing it, and having great grounded anti-airs. So in that sense, they’re “not anime.” But, they look “anime.” Such a stupid term.
Then you have games like Under Night In-Birth that emphasizes the ground game as opposed to air movement focused spacing games, but has super “chuunibyou anime” aesthetic. So it’s simultaneously “anime” and “not anime” like KOF and SF.
Everytime someone says that just think that the title for ST “THE MOST NON-ANIME FIGHTER OF ALL TIME”. Was almost a shout out to an anime.
Spoiler
As for yata the balance changes are mainly frame data.
The issue is that the term “anime” tends to denote certain style of fighting game (long-ish chain combos, air dashes, etc.) over whether or not it’s inspired by actual anime. Of course, even this doesn’t really cover it when you have people saying that UMvC3 actually is “anime” (folks such as Yipes, etc.), meanwhile, lumping it alongside Yata.
WHOA WHOA WHOA! SRK, calm your tits man, jeez. I’m not even going to read all that hate, because from just a glance most of it seems to be assumptions that my definition of ‘anime fighter’ is just like everyone else’s definition and that I don’t know anything about the game or who’s making it.
[details=Spoiler]1. I know who’s working on the game, which is the main reason I’ve been following Yata. 3S is awesome, and making a game which is 3S but without any problems and has a company that listens to the community? Fricken pimp.

When I say ‘anime fighter’, all it means is one simple thing: game looks like an anime/manga. New KI? Not an anime fighter. USF4? Not an anime fighter. UMvC3? Not an anime fighter. Arcana Heart? Anime fighter. Blazblue? Anime fighter. Yatagarasu? Anime fighter. Has nothing to do gameplay, only the art style. That is what ‘anime fighter’ means to me, nothing more or less. I realize most of these examples are probably not good, but Inuyasha Feudal Fairytale is an anime fighter, and doesn’t focus on the mechanics you guys are talking about.

Pressure /=/ mind games, although I would agree they are not mutually exclusive. However, when the game was running faster there was constant action. Little footsies, little stalling, just constant flow of battle. I felt that it fit the game, and once they changed it and people started to play differently because of it, I was disappointed because I thought it looked and felt better at the higher speed.

I’m not telling anyone to do anything, and I was speaking for those in the stream chat, not those actually playing it. I never got to hear what the players said, but the stream had nothing but negativity for the game.

My comment about it looking like it was made in Mugen…well, frankly it does. I’ve seen games that ‘look’ like this on Mugen, but you rarely see anything that ‘looks’ like UMvC3 or KI on Mugen. I understand the game isn’t finished, but I’m feeling the EVO-vibe here: what you see at EVO is 90% what you get as a finished product. There isn’t much time left to really polish things up, but I hope the game looks more crisp and unique by then, especially since they apparently got funded by the fans.

How come all you guys did here was get upset when in my initial post, I said I am excited for Yata and actually want to purchase it?[/details]
You and most the FGC in general have very different definitions of “anime fighter”.
Back on topic. Has any footage of the Yata tournament at TRB been uploaded already?
Wtf?! Yatagarasu even has muscular men something that’s lacking on most fighting games (and anime, manga)nowadays and still is considered anime?!
I give up, if we go by this logic then any fighting game made in Japan is anime except for Street fighter, so what games like injustice,Mk,KI are considered? Comic fighters? Do fighting games from Japan need to have masculine man and trannys to be considered just fighting games?.
So anyways OT, but somewhat similar to what is being discussed. This is what I think of the look of the characters shown in the new trailer.
Azure-Looks pretty badass, looks like he can kick ass. That he is half arabian is really cool.
Kazama-Really much to thin to look like she can do much damage, she does wield a dagger. However she doesn’t look athletic at all. Too fanservicy.
Hinukan-Not big on the skin tight shirt, or hair style. Look doesn’t really stand out in anyway.
Hattori-At least her legs look muscular, with that large rack can’t imagine her being so agile and having good balance. Visually she looks okay.
Chadha-Not much to say. Big muscular masked guy.
Jet-Looks like a swift boxer type, facial expression looks like he will have a fun personality. Like the design.
Hina-The design I hate most in fighting games…the japanese school girl. Don’t really have anything else to say.
Shimo-…Another japanese schoolgirl. I know it is a popular fetish but c’mon.
Crow-At least he has a cool name. However again not a fan of the skin tight shirt.
Tsunetsugo-Pirate guy looks alright. Decent design.
Aja-Female aristocrat showing a lot of skin and wielding a sword. Very fanservicy.
Street Fighter absolutely looks anime
People need to watch more anime
Maybe you should read the posts you skipped over as most of your points about it being Anime where addressed, and it is why you sound like a moron for skipping said posts. USF4 is indeed Anime.
you guys just love to argue about anything don’t you -_-
I have a beta key but I haven’t used it yet, does online work? GGPO enabled?
