Yang Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

just aim low. you have to have good reads if you fight mashers.

Alioune and UltraDavid both suggest that Yang is more well rounded than Yun, can anyone offer any insight towards that?

I’ve never thought Yun was well-rounded… Hes just absurdly powerful on the offense. Yang’s offense isnt as strong, but he has much better defensive tools with dp fadc and ex teleport. Yang also has better pokes imo so it comes as no surprise to me.

I’m not even sure what the well rounded means. It means you’re more versatile? Then it would probably mean you have less dominant matchups but on the flipside less matchups where you’re heavily disadvantaged. However, imo yun’s matchups vs the grapplers are a lot easier and at the same time he’s way stronger in rushdown matchups.

I don’t think it means anything personally

I guess it can mean versatile, I’ve always just considered it the opposite of has faults. Some characters don’t have a great solution for problems, some characters don’t have a good solution for a lot of problems. Yang only truly suffers to grapplers, but otherwise can handle most of what’s thrown at him.

Hello Yang forums! Had a quick question: does anyone have any trouble with teleport coming out when they do cr.MK xx Rekkas? I figure it’s negative edge, but no matter how fast I lift off the button it still comes out like that.

I’ve switched to a hitbox arcade stick in the last week and I found I was getting negative edge a lot, problem is gone now since I hold the MK just a tad bit longer.
Same thing applies to St. LK which I’ve been trying to incorporate in my game, I have to hold LK way past the cancel window because it results in a LK DP if I whiff and release in footsies.

Do you guys do kara grab with MP or any other button? Or is the range too negligible to do it.

Best button to kata grab with is hk. You don’t get a lot though

Hello fellow yang users, a few questions to ask on yang’s gameplay.

First, when should I use lp.rekka or hp.rekka as a combo ender? Is spacing after knockdown on lp.rekka better than hp? And which is better for using it as a poke?

Secondly, after rekka combo enders, how should I continue to apply pressure? I know after dp combo enders you can j.mk for a safe crossup , but I know I can’t do the same likewise for rekkas due to the push back. Do I dash forward or teleport? Followed by what moves/ frame traps?

The struggle is, I can execute yang’s bnb and fadc combos but, I don’t really know how to apply pressure and frame traps. Seth was my main in ae2012 so I’m forced to switch due to his nerfs

Thanks!

After lp rekka as a combo ender you can lk teleport into meaty rekka. I, ussualy, only use hp rekka combo ender if the opponent is in the corner or if I need the extra damage to end the round

Frametraps:
cr.lp/cr.lk to cl.mp
cl.mp to far.mp/cr.mk
Delayed second rekka
lp rekka x1 to cr.mk/st.lk xx rekka
cr.lp/cr.lk to cl.mk
lp to cl.hp xx rekka/mp palm

Would Dhalsim be a good substitute character for Yang? I like that the playstyle is completely different, so I don’t mix up any combos or buttons.
With Yang I struggle against grapplers and especially boxer (don’t know how it is with Dhalsim).

Imo sagat, cody, guile are way better options for a sub character. Dhalsim is a really difficult character and the grappler matchup isn’t really all that lopsided whereas even a scrub sagat can give grapplers a lot of trouble.

Alright thanks, I’m thinking about it - I’m liking most of those characters too.

So how do I get in range to use them besides in the corner? How should I close in on them? Do I mix neutral jumps and dive kicks with normal jump ins?

Yang’s walk speed in Ultra is great. Use that to close in on your opponent mixed with dashes and light teleports after a LP Rekka ender. Don’t always think about jumping in. As Yang, you won’t get free wakeup mixups mid screen after rekkas. Therefore, utilize his walk speed buff and other ground tools to your advantage. Mid-screen, you don’t really have to be in the opponent’s face the whole time. Yang has great mid-range buttons that are special cancellable (i.e. f.st.MP and cr.MK). Even his jabs have good range for, well, jabs. You should notice that the frame traps sheera shared consist of all special cancellable buttons and will usually transition into rekkas. Those same buttons are what should be used when looking for an opening near mid-screen against the opponent after knocking them back with rekkas.

You guys got tips for cl.mk dash ultra? I can do the rekka fadc ultras just fine. Also how is Shine doing cl.mk micro step into ultra? That looks ridiculous

Practice, practice, practice. Also, if you do rekka rekka qcf focus forward 3p it’ll come out easier. The walk ultra is easy actually, just do stand forward, qcf qcf hold the last forward until Yang starts walking 3p

thanks for the help and quick reply. Ill practice these as much as I can.

Hello, I’ve started learning Yang. I’m posting this here with a bit of a progress report, and to ask a few questions.

I’ve got some of his BnBs down. I really struggle with rekka motions, which is probably weird to a lot of you (just 3 fireballs, lol) but I find that I panic and mash them out. It’s taking a lot of discipline to keep that instinct in check.

I’m using c.LP, s.LP, c.MK x L.Rekka if they’re blocking and H.Rekka if I know it hit. I prefer to use this combo even to check if they’re blocking, until they start to uppercut through it or whatever, then if I want to go for something to check for crouching I’ll start using low short more. If there’s something here I’m missing please by all means tell me.

I’m really struggling to combo after rekkas. The inputs don’t seem that hard, but the timing seems super strict. So what is the frame advantage after Rekka 2 FADC? Do the different rekkas have different frame advantage after FADC? For example is it better to use H.Rekka FADC over M or L?

thanks in advance.
