typcially when you do dives you do them so fast only kens SRK can hit and uriens AA fireball has more start up then ken’s SRK
Urien vs Yang.
My best friend plays Urien so ive had this match up 9809798798 times lol. things to watch out for when fighting a good urien.
s. hp- This move right here beats almost all of yangs normals on the ground. Yang cant duck it like he can do with uriens s.mp. Properly zoned, this move alone can beat yang. Watch out for this.
Fireballs: Lol this right here stop anything yang can do in the air IF yang is predictable with his movements. Most yangs tend to get robotic because alot of his patterns normally end the same. There are some freestyling you can do with yang but hes limited. Uriens lp fireball can hit from a distance if a person is randomly dive kicking away from them to build meter. If yang jumps in repeatedly then Uriens mp firball will catch him 90% of the time. And yang takes ALOT of damage from uriens juggles. Because his stamina is so low.
Aegis reflector: With yang you dont tend to worry about this move to much unless your in the corner. The reason for this is because Urien would have to work EXTREMELY hard to hit you with a midscreen because Yang wakes up very fast. So mid screens arent going to be a major issue for yang. Aegis is a problem for any character, so this is just something general that everyone should look out for.
Uriens pokes:
s hp- Already explained above
How to punish: If this move whiffs you can always punish with ex mantis, Or if your feeling sausy. hit with with either far hp or super.
S mp- Yang can duck under this move so this move tends not to be a threat on the ground. But if yang is in the air. He will AA you often with this move. this move has alot of priority and will be used often by uriens.
How to punish: C mk xx mantis/ex mantis If in air Air parry to j hp or j hk to ground combo.
Ill update later on I hope this helps in some way
yup you hit that on the dot…very good pretty much my thought but never got to try the against a good urien…also i was to lazy to type all that thanks man

There’s not much need to jump or use divekicks in a match vs Urien, maybe besides crossup after knockdowns. Yang can stay on the ground and hold his own against Urien the whole match and if he throws out his projectile then thats just stupidity on the Urien’s part. Easily punished with the senkyutai.
Scoring a knockdown is very good for Yang since Urien doesn’t have great reversals. It’s like free damage if you mixup ticks into jab mantis mixups or hit confirms. Most Uriens I’ve faced try to turtle it out after knockdowns and almost always end up eating an ex mantis into another knockdown. EX aegis can save him but wastes a whole bar so I barely see it used on wakeup. Just be careful of his throw on wakeup cuz it does a ton of damage on Yang. Besides that like mentioned try not to get caught up in a juggle…it’s not a hard matchup for Yang…
What Urien in their right minds is going to throw out random fireballs??? even against certain characters No urien is going to throw out random fireballs in hopes that hismoves hit you. because Urien doing so would leave him at to much of a disadvantage. Urien May not have great reversals and honestly, He doesnt need them to beat yang. One good combo and yang is done for. Urien can also keep out yang with s hp. This beats almost all of yangs pokes on the ground easy. This match up is actually a hard match up for the twins in general because of the damage they take from urien as well as not being able to jump freely. Taking away the jumps from the twins is like taking away LOV from Remy. Cant fight with out them. Not as effectively anyway. Im not downing your input. But Everything your saying only sounds good on paper. and is all general knowledge. Not really indepth toward to match up
Once Yang is on Urien there’s not much Urien can do. Yang can keep him totally locked down. The twins do take more damage then most, but they don’t juggle well and there isn’t really any good unblockable setups you can use on them. Yang has the advantage in this match
Edit: Yang doesn’t need to jump against Urien to win. Yang isn’t Yun
Actually the Twins juggle pretty well from my experiences. I play urien as well. I tend to juggle the twins rather easy. As for Yang not needing to jump against Urien, your right about that he doesnt NEED to jump. But jumping is a part of his normal attack flow. Yang may have an advantage but he doesnt have the COMPLETE advantage as i stated b4. Yang is faster than urien, this is true. But for a good urien its going to be REALLY hard to get in.
c.HP (launcher), lk/mk tackle xx hp aegis, EX tackle
Urien’s answer to the twins for a midscreen unblockable. Yang’s ground game is really strong and that is true against most anybody. In the case of fighting Urien, I feel it’s better to stay on the ground for as much as possible and mix it up while keeping yourself distanced enough so that you don’t get thrown through holes in your offense.
Can someone give a more in depth analysis of the Yang vs. Elena matchup?
I’m really having trouble with it. As a matter of fact, it is my worst matchup.
Hmm, apparently I was misinformed! o.o
Any part of the EX slashes seems to be unsafe against a Ken with meter. Even the beginning slash.
But then again, if the Ken want’s to punish your normal mp/hp slashes, he has to pay slightly closer attention to tell the difference between those and your LP slash. :]
This crap has 421 posts? Man…the Ibuki forums main thread has nowhere near this many posts. There must be a lot of love for the not-so Yun. :lovin:
I can help you with this match up.
As everyone knows elena is like a watered down Chun. But elena has A semi reliable AA. Elenas posts are really good because Her main pokes(mainly b HK and HK) are invincible to lows. So in this match up you for the most part, Will not be trying to poke at elena with c mk with yang. Elena will hop over it. Each and every time if she thinks its coming and you will get hit. Her pokes are alot better than yangs. They have alot more range and she also does WAY better in air to air against Yang. So jumping in against elena is almost pointless unless in a wake up situation where you score a knock down. Getting in on elena is also going to be hard as well because she has ALOT more range than you. So your going to have to play it safe and punish Whiffed normals. Ex mantis slashes do well to punish( prolly one of the best punishing moves in the game) You have to zone out and make sure that elena doesnt start to put the pressure on you. So you have to make sure that you are the first to get in on elena. One of elena’s biggest weaknesses is that she doesnt have a fast normal to get her out of shit. (chun c lk, c lp etc) So when you get in, Pressure very hard because the only way she is going to get out is super or ex scratch heel( her uppercut) If you bait these out. You shouldnt have a problem fighting elena as long as you get in close. But the mid range game against elena isnt a fight that yang will win. :china:
Ahhh I got you. I appreciate the knowledge.
I talked with my friend Jimmy, watched a vid of Roshi Hikari against a chun, and found out that I’ve learned how to lock most chuns down now. Slash pressure, i.e. shorts/jabs cancelled into jab slashes, keep them in the corner, slash mixups, bait them to tech a throw they think is coming, etc. etc. :karate:
I’ve got a handle on how to play against Ken now [found a few people that know what they can reverse, meaning I couldn’t abuse ex slashes for pressure]. I figure that I can get within medium range of the jab slash, which means while it’s not far enough to be seen and parried easily, it’s also not close enough to be stuffed by a c.mk or something. Try to get the guy to jump or whiff a DP, etc. etc.
At this point I’m slowly understanding how to fight both Chun and Urien using a lockdown type of rushdown [which seems really effective]. The main problem I’m having now is Makoto. There are quite a few Makoto players around here, but I don’t play them enough and thus I dont’ understand how to play against her. J.roundhouse stuffs most jump-ins [unless done early, it looks like] and stops dive kick pressure. Apparently Makoto can karasuka you if you complete the 2nd slash [it kept happening to me while I was trying to do some slash mixups], is that normal? If I use an EX and he has SA1, I get reversed with it. Also with the normal ‘I grab you and then you’re stunned’ stuff with SA2.
Any tips against Makoto? Also, I’d like some additional tips for Chun/Ken/Urien if anyone has anything to throw in. :]
play smart
Yeah that’s what I thought. I know it’s hard to tell someone exactly how to play against so-and-so because of all the factors.
its hard to write with the on-screen kb, i m not trying to be a prick, my bad.
check the makoto forums, theres some casuals of me and quotes. let me warn you though, he and i are very familiar with each other, i highly don t suggest tapping forward as much against any makoto, thats just me being an ass lol
Sometimes, I can’t get all 5 EX-Mantis Slashes to come out and I end up getting 4.
Can anyone help me with this on what the possibilities may be?
Mashing out the slashes too fast, you’re cancelling the first one before it connects.
