XRGB2+ questions

Hi. I’ve recently purchased an XRGB2+ and it’s just arrived. Thankfully, I’ve had no problems with it with my PS2, but I was curious to know a few things about it:

  • Whether there’s any input lag here, for shmups and Bemani, etc.
  • I’m using official PS2 component cables to a “component to Japanese (21pin) RGB” cable. My supergun is going to require this Japanese 21pin slot on my XRGB once my cable for that arrives, so I’m also looking for alternatives. Maybe Component to D4 adapters are available as well? What are my options?
  • There appears to be a bright line to the very far left of the image on my monitor and I’m not sure why, but it isn’t a huge deal since I can adjust my monitor to make it overlap the screen. Any ideas how to eliminate this line entirely?

Thanks.

Yes, all XRGB-2+ units already come with such an adapter from the factory. If you didn’t get one I guess a previous owner must’ve misplaced it. AFAIK the D-terminal port can only accept YPbPr format video while the Jap SCART port can take both RGB and YPbPr (switchable in the menus).

Actually, I do have one of those that came with it. It doesn’t have audio inputs though. I’m guessing you can just plug them directly into the XRGB2+?

The D-terminal connector is not designed to carry audio, see Wikipedia for pinout. The XRGB-2+ unit has separate stereo RCA jacks right next to the D-terminal port though.

No input lag.

Do you have it on a CRT or LCD monitor?

I have a both, but I’m going to be using the 17" CRT. I tested it with Pop’n Music 12 and there wasn’t any input lag there.

Anyway, I just tested it out with the D-Terminal connection and it seems to work really well. Now all I need is my Supergun’s lead to come in the mail and I’ll be all set.

In the Menu there is an option called “USR_DTC”.
I use that to get rid of anomalies or minimize them.

On most LCD monitors it has trouble lining up the image at the edges properly,
on CRT monitors less but it can happen.

Is there any input lag/image quality reduction if you use it with an LCD?

That depends on the LCD monitor.
I know when dashing / hopping in Street Fighter III on the PlayStation 2 that the characters start to “stripe” on my LCD monitor.
I do not have that on my CRT screen.

In general there is no lag.
That is why that thing costs a small fortune.

USR_DTC doesn’t seem to do anything when I press it.
