XCM 360 to PS3 converter REVIEWED!

Same company that manufactured the sniper, if they’re using the same component(s) used for previous models:

XFPS 3.0 Sniper Plus ~ $90 +Shipping
Pros : Lagless (stupid_nerd, Markman) unless PCB is digital only (Markman).
Cons : Expensive

Than it should be lagless unless it’s a digital only pcb. So I guess if your stick has a hacked controller inside it should be ok. Some retail stick pcb’s maybe not.

retail stick as in…sf4 TE stick? :[

Hi. I’m curious how you came to this conclusion that this is a lag with the usb ports. Seeing as the Cthulhu is queried for status every 10ms, the Xbox controller is queried every 4ms, and I could even kick the Cthulhu up to 1ms refresh. Please explain.

No, your Playstation 2 version TE stick should work just fine with the XFPS Sniper.

(For the humor impaired, there is no Playstation 2 version of the TE)

maybe its my motherboard … because every usb input device i have testet have nearly 16ms +/- 0.x ms … cant get results below it

using said lag tester I was getting about 17ms of lag even on a PS2/OS keyboard, i dunno seems 16ms maybe as close as it gets…

Just for reference, how many ms before it would be considered too much lag? (Just in general.) I don’t know the ballparks on these things.

Forcibly turn off VSync and you’ll get different results…

Frame Conversion:

1 frame is approximately 17 milliseconds.
Ideal (unnoticeable) delay for fighting or rhythm games is 8 milliseconds or less, or 1/2 of a frame.

Acceptable (playable) delay is 9 to 34 milliseconds, or 1/2 of a frame to 2 frames. Note that while gameplay will still be affected by a delay of 2 frames, most people will still have a difficult time noticing the difference immediately.

Unacceptable (unplayable) delay is over 34 milliseconds, or anything higher than 2 frames. Typically, this is a point when timing-sensitive gamers will even feel a delay at the menu screen or with the cursor when selecting a character.

So it seems this converter is producing 1 frame of lag, better than I thought it would be.

Wait what? We’re talking about the xcm ps3/ 360 coverter…

yeah that would made sense … tft runs at 60hz -> 1/60 = around 16ms … right now im searching how to turn of vsync on nvidia cards

I got something better than the TE… just came in the mail. XCM sent me a review sample:

THE DOMINATOR!

Of course they forgot to include the Cross Battle Adapter in the package -_-

OH SNAP, it begins. Can’t wait to hear the word on this.

Probably gonna go with a Cthulhu regardless, but a few more solid reviews could sway me.

I’m on a CRT though. Well I’ve never been that good at timing games like that anyway.

Go Mark! Give it to me (no homo and I mean the review)! 8D

Edit: please note that the dominator is a PS3 version of the noname fighting stick 2! I can send you pics if needed.

Is it just me or does anyone else feel like getting a dominator just to mod the lights and maybe even make them light up in some crazy sequence? xD

Anywho, I hope you get that adapter soon Markman. Very interested in your review as I have a few friends who for some reason or other, rely only on me for info on video games and home electronics >>;;;

wow, from the looks of the pictures those look crazy bright! :looney:

itll be the new strategy to blind your opponent while playing.

Well that sucks. Are they still sending you the XCM 360 to PS3 adapter? If you’re unable to review it, then we’re going to have to go by the words of others… >_>

Got an email direct from team XCM…

This is rather unprofessional of me, but I think it is good news that they are looking into it. I don’t normally post/paste emails.

Here was my reply…

"Some feedback. Some people have been using it with fighting games, namely arcade sticks. Since the arcade sticks are digital signal only, they have been having trouble with input lag and performing moves/combos with strict timing.

If you can design it with both digital and analog signals in mind, I think it would make for a great product.

Thanks!"

Sweet! I hope they take your reply into consideration when they’re redoing the adapter. I’m looking forward to it :).

Hmm, so what’s the final word on this converter? I’m glad they are redoing it to make it better, but I doubt they’ll be releasing anytime in the near future. I’m trying to figure out if I should buy the converter or get an MC Cthulhu.
