Xbox360 reconnect conteoller message

I held a small tourney for my group yesterday on xbox 360. Sometimes we would get the “please reconnect controller” message when someone unplugs, but it would never go away when a new controller would be plugged in. Whats the best way to get rid of that message without having to restart the system?

Do not disconnect mid game, and defiantly not mid match. Wait until you are back on the main menu screen, even then its not grantee to work for you.
Keep in mind the designers of all version of the Xbox 360 console (including the PS3 or Wii Consoles) never had tournament play in mind.

You might have to suck it up and reboot the whole console, which overall reduces any in game errors.

If you unplug the controller or it gets shut off somehow and you didn’t go to the “turn controller off” option first, then this will happen. Example:

If you have one controller linked, you can make another controller player 1 if you shut the already connected controller off correctly and then turn on the OTHER controller. That way it recognizes the other one as the same player.

Thanks for the input guys
