Xbox360 or ps3?

Hi, my flatmate should relocate, and sold me his xbox360 for relatively cheap

i already have a pc for gaming, i didn’t planned to buy a console but that seemed a deal to me

i thought i could try some fighting games that aren’t available on pc

i discovered that online play on xbox isn’t free, plus my homemade stickless works only on ps3/pc

is real that ps3 has more choice when it comes to fighting games? should i try to trade it for a ps3?

thanks in advance

Well, PS3 has all the fighters on the current 360 and then some, specifically certain anime games like BlazBlue: Chronophantasma and Chaos Code. 360 is the tournament standard for most games nowadays, however.

My suggestion would just be to get your stick dualmodded and get whichever console better fits your situation.

I tend to disagree, yes some smaller/local tourney circuits might use Xbox 360. But the Big name tournaments like Evo uses PS3s.
Hell even Anime Conventions like Otakon for their tournaments prefer the PS3 to Xbox 360.

PS3 doesn’t have more choice. The choices are usually available to both. Very few fighting games are console exclusive like this. For most of the big name fighting games, they’ll have ports on both.

The primary advantage of ps3 is having a blu-ray player, and free online. PS3 typically costs more than the xbox, although this varies from model to model.

Advantage of xbox is that a lot of fighting game players are playing on xbl. However, it does cost you money to play online. If you’re picking up the older version of the xbox, your odds of getting a rrod are shockingly high.

If your goal is to enter local tournaments (which I highly recommend), then pick whatever system they’re playing on.

Considering the fact that you already have a ps3/pc stick, I’d personally go with the ps3, as that’ll cut down on costs in the end. Again, if you’re planning on entering local tournaments and they use xboxs, then you’ve got a harder choice to make.

Evo standard is now 360.

True, although there are a few games with PS3 only versions, which still have a chance at being a headliner game at Evo. In this case, PS3s can still be used for certain games.

Wait, when was this?

^ I was about to ask the same thing!

Not even a month ago Mr Wizard said they are still PS3.

I want a credible source on this. As it tales alot of money to replace all those consoles, consoles that have nothing wrong with them. And last I check Sony is a big time Evo sponsor.
Only way Evo would consider doing this is if Microsoft decided to sponsor Evo and provide new consoles and financial insensitive to do so

I guess I might’ve missed the memo where whatever’s in this trailer was misinterpreted but…

0m50s mark.

EDIT: Actually found a better source.

So they have a XBOX 360. It doesn’t mean they are all Xbox 360s.

Without more information, it is too early to say Evo have completely switch to Xbox 360. There been Xbox 360 stations there in the past, the whole set up isn’t purely PS3. When Smash bros Brawl was big they had a number of Wii consoles. For all we know it could be just certain consoles for certain games or XBLA is streaming the whole event live for a price.

And I quote from your link “the event is not exclusive to XBOX 360”

I think that’s only in relation to games that are ONLY on PS3 though… That’s how I read it.

i think its safe to assume sf4/umvc3 will be on xbox. considering theyre the games people have the most problems with on ps3. ttt2 prob still ps3, kof 13 dunno.

PC

Wait, wait, wait isn’t by SRK Tech Talk rules we aren’t supposed to have any VS threads anyways?

It’s not really a VS thread. It’s more of a disguised poll thread.

I heard that it was confirmed that X360 EVO doesn’t mean there won’t be PS3s, for stuff like BB and GG that NEED ps3s they will still have ps3s, more what it means is that capcom games which don’t work on ps3s (seriously why can’t they program?) will be on 360s so there won’t be anymore training stages (if you believe this you are lying to yourself, many 360 tourneys feature TONS of training stage).

Furthermore if it’s Ps3 vs 360 what matters is what games you like, do you like anime? Then Ps3 is the only choice (GGXRD is coming to 360) but Blazblue, Skullgirls, Aquapazza, etc etc.

If you’re only into AE then the question is what does your local scene play? You’ll probably want to pick the console your local scene plays so casuals / tourneys are much simpler.

If you’re only into AE and you have no local scene then 360 or PC is the best choice because PSN isn’t good for AE online.

If you want to play MvC3 then find a local scene.

If you want to play KoFXIII then you’re 100% going to be playing on pc online and either 360 or ps3 offline (whichever your scene is) hopefully your scene matches your stick because PC KOFXIII works for all sticks.

TL;DR
Match your local scene, otherwise PS3 vs 360 is dependent on what games you want to play and how you want to play them. Then play KOFXIII on PC because it has great netcode.

I’m playing online exclusively at the moment. Not into a local scene, dunno if exist here where i live (north italy)

Also i’m not thinking about tournaments because i’m **** tier

Okay (for now any ways)

PS3 - Free Online
Xbox 360 - You pay for online play (per month) but you supposedly have the better online servers

PS4 and Xbox One will both have to pay to be online.
