I am upgrading my computer soon so I can start playing some newer fighting games and trying to finally solve an issue that has plagued me for a while. I have the 360 TE fightstick and when I plug it into the laptop USB it says device not recognized and shows up under Universal Serial Bus Controllers list in device manager.
I know about the Xbox 360 controller driver, but the problem is that even if I manually update the driver that shows as missing, the 360 controller driver won’t show up as an option to choose from. It does show up if I look for it under any other category (Like Human Interface Devices), just not for any device under the Universal Serial Bus Controllers list. Unfortunately, I can’t move the non-recognized device out of that area of device manager.
2 things i would try:
try a regular 360 controller on the pc
Try the stick on an xbox 360.
If the stick doesnt work on the 360 i would say you need a new cable in the best case and a new pcb in the worst case.
If the 360 controller doesnt work on the pc it has to be a software issue.
A controller works on the PC and the stick works on the 360. If I need a new PCB and/or cable, do you have any resources on where to get them and how to install them?
Go to Device Manager -> (find your stick probably showing up as an alert icon with unrecognized usb device)
Right click on the unrecognized item and select "Update Driver Software"
Choose "Browse my computer for driver software"
Choose "Let me pick from a list blah blah"
Should list the MS controller driver you installed earlier.
If you don’t see the latest MS controller driver then uncheck the “Show compatible hardware” check box and find Microsoft under the manufacturer and on the right find the MS controller driver you installed.
I have tried that and the MS Controller driver doesn’t show up under microsoft for some reason when picking a driver for the Unrecognized USB device. If the unrecognized device was under a different heading (like human interface device) then the MS controller driver does show up.
Also keep in mind all the stick makers that makes Sticks for CONSOLES do not guarantee or or recommend use on a PC.
They will maintain that the Product is only for the system the controller is built and marketed for

These early Mad Catz TE sticks (both PS3 and Xbox 360) have poorly made PCBs which all known to have issues.
