Is that true? I was under the impression that there were quite a few lagless adapters. The only additional lag is from the extra 3 inches or so of travel across the adapter. That would practically be unmeasurable.
Hit the nail on the head. Anyone who says otherwise… lolol.
good post Sabre tnx for clearing that up
While I agree that the game is essentially the same on both systems in terms of speed, this isn’t really a conclusive test. It has to be repeatable under different conditions (stages, characters, moves etc). For all we know it could be a random frame drop/gain on both systems (as opposed to a marginally slower game on the PS3). It could also be that some stages are faster on one console than on the other. These are unlikely possibilities, but you can’t be sure that one system is even slightly faster/slower than the other using this test alone.
[edit]
One possible way to test gameplay speed would be to record a combo into ultra on both systems in training mode, record it for a few minutes while it plays back and then compare the frame difference.
good stuff
I agree with Gilley. I notice this when doing jump in attacks, then landing and continuing with block strings. My ground move comes out on 360 all the time, but sometimes doesn’t come out on PS3.
If anyone could redo this test in training mode and have Ryu do neutral jump HK against blocking dummy over and over again for about a minute, I’ll be a believer.
i’m with mag on this one… i definitely have been able to feel a speed difference between the 2 consoles. i own a 360 and my boy owns a ps3… we play at each others houses all the time… then again mag and i use the same character, so…
either way this test was eye opening, i’m a fan of jumping to find the speed difference but there needs to be more tests… or at the very least the top players confirming or denying the existence of a difference.
but meh, i play on both so much that cant tell the difference that much anymore… i’ve gotten used to it the same way i’ve gotten used to online lag more.

Maybe it’s the stick you use?
The burden should kind of be on the people who think there’s a realistic difference to set up, test, and prove it at this point, not just because of a burden of proof kind of thing, but because it’s a lot easier for these people to go and test their circumstances then to have a million guys volunteering “but what if you’re player 2 and you’re doing jump attacks on the diner stage”.
Could a difference between 97% link accuracy and 80% link accuracy be something as simple as being way more familiar with a personally owned PS3 stick and slightly less familiar with a friend’s XBox stick?
I think that the difference is that it is all in their heads and they are seeing things that really isn’t there because they think that the PS3 is the “Standard”.
You are right though, and it could be that they are not used to the 360 stick and it is wrecking their timing.
As far as the system power is concerned, since SF4 didn’t prove anything one way or the other, the next major test will be Final Fantasy 13.
I have a PS3 hooked to a 32" Samsung 720p LCD TV. My cousin has an XBox 360 hooked to the exact same model TV I have. Both are connected via HDMI. Both of us noticed no differences at all.
However, my friend has his 360 hooked up to a 50" Toshiba 1080p LCD TV connected via HDMI. We both noticed a speed difference.
I believe it all comes down to the TV you use.
^ This. Some tv’s just aren’t as good as others.
Better than PS2 MVC2. Thread can close.
I usually play on 360. The couple times Ive played on ps3, I could swear it feels like theres a couple of frames of input lag. It could have been the television maybe?? But I doubt it cause I was playing at a gathering with multiples of the same kind of television, and didnt notice anything on the 360 setups. The sticks involved were TE sticks for the appropriate system, no converters involved.
It would be nice if someone did an input lag test as well… anyone have the means to do that? NKI used to do that sort of thing for ST.
Someone should do this test for the PC version as well (compared to any console).
Watch, there will be some people on the PC version that will have it with V-sync off etc and be running it either way above 60 fps or way below, and start making false conclusions.
you guys seriously need to take into consideration(those of you still thinking theres something wrong) that the tv you use, and how its connected, and the settings used, and the stick/adapter used, all play factors in how the game behaves. for all you know, if there truly is supposedly something wrong with the ps3 version, its more than likely not the game, but the hardware setup, or the flat out hardware being used that should be in question.
I rarely play on the ps3. me and cigarbob had a 360 setup and a ps3 setup and we, and everyone else were going back and forth between the setups and there was not a single complaint. some of the players didnt even know we were running different consoles.
you guys should seriously question the hardware setup. hd setups are just hit and miss when it comes to video or input lag. and judging from experiences with other players over the years, most people have no clue that its their setup and using wrong settings causing the problem.
Sabre and I did this speed test to prove that there is no inherent issues with speed differences between the two games.
If there is a single person that thinks this was not enough to prove that the speed is so close as to not matter then do your own damn test and post up a video.
Seriously some of the requirements to prove that there is no difference are just dumb.
How will you guarantee that you performed the combo exactly the same way between the systems? If you are off even one frame then the whole thing is null. And what if one system randomly drops a frame during an ultra? Any dropped frames during an ultra will have no effect on game play at all.
I have an idea!!
I will go find/build/borrow two programmable sticks, one for xbox one for ps3. I will program a full minute of combos into the stick exactly the same for each system. Then I will record and edit it.
Are you fucking kidding me?
BTW there is no input lag difference between ps3/xbox either.
If one more person claims there is an issue and doesn’t have any EVIDENCE to back it up they can fuck off.
I can see it now “I FEEL like there is a difference. This is because i can hit my one frame combo 100% on XXX but cant on XXX.” Uh hu. Well I feel like your a *** and because our our feelings are truth then you are a ***. Get it?
i think that other people think xbox has more “lag” because you have to press the buttons farther in.
._.
I bet it is all placebo. Its like when the Power Up pack came out and everyone kept finding changes to SF4 that were actually in the game all along.
