My problem is that I have a really beefed up security configuration on my network that is provided by my dorms. So in other words, I can get online through my PC, but i can’t using my router or directly through my xbox. Through troubleshooting on my dashboard, I get all the way till the end when it tries to connect and says “network error” so it does find the ISP and resolves the DNS. Does anybody know away around this besides having the Dorm network techitions lower the security configuration? I haven’t talked to them directly yet, but more than likely, they will not lower their security just so i can get online through my xbox. Thanks in advance.

Hmmmm the only thing i can think of is to ask your IT department for the addresses so you can put them in manually so if you get an IP and DNS address you should work, Failing that they may have blocked the port on a firewall which Xbox live uses i think it is port 1080 you could ask them to open that port but i doubt they will…

Or try connecting your Xbox through your PC using a Crossover Cable

Thats all i got hope it helps

If you havent done already, enter your PC’s physical address into the Mac Address section on the Xbox Network Settings page. This makes the internet connection believe it is your PC is trying to access the net. It is basically a trouble shooter in itself for people who have problems connecting. It could help fix your problem, Im not too sure.

It also wouldnt hurt to ring your ISP and have them register your Xbox’s Mac address for use of the connection

Ok I was able to fix the problem by entering the mac address. Thanks for the help guys.

How Do I Get Minimal Lag Is SvC Chaos. I’ve Yet To Play A Lag Free Game :frowning:

Hi guys, was hoping someone could help me out here

I’m having to connect my xbox to my PC since I’m using a USB modem. For some reason my Local Area Connection properties lacks the ICS option in Advanced, I believe that I actually need this in order to allow the xbox to hook up to the net? So far the xbox has managed to pick up an ISP, but cannot resolve the DNS.

Thanks in advance.

Network problem

Anyone else having this problem with a network in your home? It was fine till tonight. I played an NFL 2k5 online game then log out to put CvS2 in. I get a network error and can’t log in. Reboot my switch, network router and then it worked. Just got done playing a 10 set and at the end of the last match I got the message of Lost connection to live. So I try and log back in and it sends me to the trouble shooter. Same network error as before. Anything that would cause this on the router side or something?

my problem is similar to that but a little twisted, my brother finished playing NFL 2K5 and i restarted my PC, i log in to CvS2 and it says i can’t log-in due to “DNS server error”, i got everything connected and everything jotted on screen was accurate, i phoned Microsoft about this crap and they said phone your ISP (Rogers) and so i did and they’re talking about fucking “you have to buy a new IP for $10/month, you’re not using a router, how is this possible?” i tell them to go fuck themselves and i’ve been using a hub (not a router and only Rogers (no other ISP) can support hub network connections; according to Microsoft) and i’ve been using the 192.—.--- addresses as my network setting to log-in (my IP aint static), i dunno what the hell is going on but i’m fucking pissed…worse is that if anytime is restart my PC, a new set of addresses come and i have to manually put them in the network setting screen

All I can add to this topic is:

IF POSSIBLE, DIRECT CONNECT TO XBL

Your probably better off getting a router. That way your xbox doesn’t have to rely on the PC.

And to everyone. Always pause/stop your downloads/uploads before gaming. Or better yet, turn off your computer(s). If everyone would do that I think we’d all be getting less lag.

This problem comes and goes for me. Every now and then, after playing on Live for a while, i’ll get disconnected. Sometimes I can log right back in, sometimes I have to go to the troubleshooter and redo the settings, and sometimes it won’t find the DNAS at all.

if anyone can help get a lag free halo 2 game i’d be forever grateful. i have a wireless linksys set up in my house. many thanks in advance.
