I don’t know if this occurs on the PS3 version of the game but it is somewhat annoying on Xbox. I will win a match and go DOWN in rank…
How is your leaderboard rank being calculated? I will win one match and jump up a bunch of ranks… win the next one and go DOWN?! It baffles the mind. I thought maybe it has to do with how well you did during the fight… but here’s what just happened:
I was ranked 74th.
I won a match with an Overwhelming Victory.
I’m now ranked 100th. Seriously? Maybe if the opponent was too easy don’t rank me up… but ranking me down for an overwhelming victory makes me sad. I don’t know if this only occurs during the high ranks or not but if somebody else could please verify this bug/strangeness.
P.S. I realize that the online rankings don’t really mean much but we are supposedly playing “ranked” matches so it may as well work properly. Plus I like looking at my friends list while we fight for bragging rights… then duke it out for real offline.
I never trust ranking systems in games because there are always people who cheat and get ranks that they did not earn legitimately. So that being said, rank should not matter as long as your game can support your spot.
I’m thinking that leaderboards varies between systems because i think in the PS3 version, i lost twice in a row to a douche that teabagged me when he barely won the first match and my rank did not drop but when i win against someone it goes up. Now when i play the xbox version on rare occasions, if i lose i drastically drop in rank. I’m not saying I’m the best or anything but I’m in the 200’s on the ps3 version and 250’s on the xbox version depending since I don’t always play the xbox version, so you can’t think that the reason why i go up and go down in rank vaguely has to do with me being in the farthest of ranks where it doesn’t even look like it would be effected that much to go up or down. I can be completely wrong with what i just typed but i’m just throwin my 2 cents.
Well as far as i know your place is determined by TrueSkill, which will go up and down, but i do agree that it is weird in that you can keep winning and keep dropping 30 places each match, then you log in the next day and win one match and jump up 200 places. It would be nice to see what the ranking is so you know whats going on there.
another thing to remember is that you are being ranked against other people… so lets say you win 10 games in a row… but in that time your competition are all winning like 20 games because they play more…
idk but since its a ranking system that pits you up against others when classifying things, then whether or not they go up (or down) can affect you. so basically it may be calculating your rank not necessarily on what you did (or,basically, not “completely” on what you did)… but what your competitors are doing and judging you based on them and vice versa… if that makes any sense.
Yeah, but it’s hard to tell when you cant see any stats. It would be fine if you saw that you won a game and your TrueSkill raking went up, but you noticed that 30 people have gone even higher than that, then people would accept that. But since you cant see it it’s hard to tell whats really going on.
Naw I really don’t think that’s what is going on. That type of stuff typically happens when you log off and stop playing or whatever. If I’m ranked 100th… log off and then come back a week later then I expect to be 150th or whatever. That’s fine and normal. When I’m ranked 100th though, fight 1 match which I win - then immediately check the leaderboard again I do not expect to have dropped in rank. I dropped from 74th to 150th after winning 4 or 5 matches in a row. During the time I played those matches I highly doubt that 76 other people won 20+ matches or whatever and passed me. Especially since when I stop playing my rank decreases at a much slower pace.
