When my friend upgraded to an XBOX 360, he gave me his original XBOX under the condition that I get Live and play with him- which I haven’t done, as I’m something of a douche. Upon getting it, I realized that a lot of the PS2 games I’d been wanting/ waiting for had already been released on the system. Among them, SvC, KOF Neowave, and SamSho V.
I bought Neowave literally the next day. I found that the controls were a bit off, to say the least. I struggled with basic qc moves, especially. Fireballs, and Buster Wolf- type moves eluded me, where I had relatively little difficulty pulling off Iori’s Rage of 8 Maidens. I attempted using my SF stick, the type-S controller, and even one of those SF Nuby pads. No luck. I chalked it up to one game with lousy controls.
I had much better luck with SvC Chaos, and Guilty Gear X2 # Reload. Not being as discouraged, I went out and picked up a copy of Capcom vs SNK 2, to replace the PS2 copy I owned, and lost. I found the game had the same issues Neowave did. I promptly returned it and picked up the PS2 version, which performed flawlessly with the stick, and any other controller.
Has anyone had similar issues? I saw a thread in the Gamefaqs board in which a user bashed the controls of CvS 2, and he was quickly told off and called a scrub. Everyone that came to the game’s defense owned the PS2 version.
Incidentally, I now use a flip-top, and I have access to virtually all the 2D fighters I want. Playasia is swell.
SNK FIGHTERS ARE HORRIBLE ON XBOX…i noticed u said u purchased SVC, Neowave,SamshoV, they are horrible. What kinda 2-D fighter has to fuckin load? hopefully XBOX360 will come out with some that don’t suck.SVC is better of played on Mame or Kawaks.Other than that it’s just a collectible. I don’t know about CVS having issues on Xbox i got CVS2 for Xbox the day it came out and I don’t haveany problems with it, i prefer to play CVS2 on Gamecube though becuase i’m most comfortable playing with that controller.PS2 is the best system for 2-d fighters though.SVC should have been on it, maybe it wouldn’t have to load between matches.MVC i found though is the best on Xbox IMO it feels like Dreamcast.
Fortunately, I never picked up SSV. I was too put off by my failures with Neowave and CvS2 to take a chance on it. I plan on importing Tenka, though, and for only $10 more.
I’d heard SvC was mediocre, but I had to experience SNK’s take on Ken and a few select others. It was well worth the ten dollars I paid for it, though. It was also a nice prep for NGBC.
yea i liked SVC but becuase it came out on Xbox and before that I have been playing on Kawaks which was awesome…i got pretty mad of it.Xbox totally fucked the game up.I was really mad there was a loading time to pick special characters and that SNK idn’t bother to just put the special characters on the roster screen like they did with the Arcade version.
I wondered why the method of choosing the “hidden characters” was so stupid. Although to be fair, I’m not really a big fan of how it’s done in KOF XI, either. I’d like an evolving character select screen. Or even a bunch of “?” squares. Just something I can actually see.
In terms of games available in US, I would say Xbox is a better system than PS2 for 2D fighters. It has just about everything the PS2 has and more. But if you have a fliptop that can’t mess with an xbox really. Unless you really want the online play, which is ok but not great.
if you read plasmakill’s post closely, he said in terms of fighters available in the US. He also goes on to say that if you do own a fliptop (modded) PS2, then Xbox can’t touch that.
In terms of US releases it’s very close, but I would have to give Xbox the edge. There where quite a bit more SNK releases on the machine, alot of people say they suck but for many it’s the most accesable if not the only way to play those games. There is also jack shit online for PS2. Everything that was released on PS2 came to Xbox sans Alpha Antholgy, but thats because Microsoft had stopped supportting the Xbox by then I think.
Not saying PS2 is bad, though it did suprise me and alot of other people that Xbox did so well when it came to 2D fighters. I own all systems to so I try to think of this as being unbiased as possiable.
I softmodded my Xbox, installed UnleashX as the dashboard, and installed a 120GB harddrive. CPS1, CPS2, Neo Geo, Guilty Gear, SF:A, hell I even have Soul Calibur 2 installed.
