XBOX 360 question

Ok, so I’m a tecnophile right. Unfortunately for me, I bought my 360 right around the time things were cooling down and they were available to everyone. Soon there after, they released the 360 Elite version. This one has the 120gb HDD and the 1.2HDMI port. Later on, M$ decided to put the Zeypher MOBO in later versions of the 360. Well, long story short, I want my shit to have the HDMI port to.:annoy::sweat:

I know a guy that is willing to trade his newer version for my older one. But only if it’s possible for him to keep all of his data. We both have the premium 360 BTW. I’ve had my 360 for about a year now and it has less than 200 hours of use on it I’m sure. Sad thing right. But that makes it practically brand new as seeing how I haven’t played it in forever. But yeah, is a simple HDD fix a solution, or is it going to take a lot more than that to make this transaction go smoothly? I haven’t been online with my 360 in a long as time, so I’m pretty sure their are a lot of updates and stuff like that I’ll need to do. So, anybody got any suggestions or info?

??? Swap machines, keep your hard drives. Enjoy your day.

Verify with MS support though - what does he want to keep?

Did he download any XBLA games? You can keep your data by keeping your hard drives but you’ll have to be logged into Xbox Live for any Live Arcade games (or any paid Marketplace content) that you have already downloaded due to MS’s crappy DRM. When you download a game off the marketplace, the content is tied to the console and Gamertag it was purchased. Since the game will be on a different console now after the switch, you’ll have to be logged onto XBL w/ the gamertag that purchased the game to play the full version. Of course, if neither of you downloaded anything off the marketplace, it won’t make a difference.

Also, I think you meant the Falcon when you talked about the Zephyr CPU (not motherboard). From oldest to newest it goes Xenon -> Zephyr -> Falcon (and late this year or next year, Jasper). If you want to see if a system is a Falcon and not a Zephyr, this place will tell you how.

you may need a third HDD so he can keep his info but you can use this to transfer.

He doesn’t need a 3rd HD or the migration cable. Just putting his hard drive in the new system is enough. The cable won’t do anything about the DRM.

is there any particular reason you want the hdmi port? the component video cables are capable of outputting 1080p resolution, and from what i’ve read on some of the gaming websites you won’t notice the difference between the two cables anyway. i was thinking of doing the same thing you are doing, and decided with the drm issues involved, it wasnt worth the hassle.

It’s true. For the majority, the difference between HDMI and Component on the 360 will be negligible. HDMI gets a slight upper hand due to being a digital signal (and therefore being immune to EMI), but if that isn’t a problem already then that’s not enough of a reason to go through all this trouble.

hdmi upconverts sd dvds to 720p

What the hell are you two talking about?

Well yeah, but the 360 DVD playback is notoriously bad. I wouldn’t use it for upconverting unless I had no other options whatsoever.

The answer is simple. Get a VGA cable as you’ll get all the features of HDMI except for being analog instead of digital.

There are many HDTVS that will not accept 1080p over component or VGA . . .

Yep, that’s pretty much the only reason that I’m doing it. Not only that, but it’ll cut down on the wire jungle I got going on behind my entertainment center. This is the TV I just purchased about 3 months ago. I had a 10% off coupon, so that made it about $2,600.

It’s got 3 HDMI inputs and 2 Y/Pb/Pr (component) inputs. So the 360, PS3 and DVR will go into the HDMI. My regular XBOX and DVD player will go into the component slots. So I’m just trying to make sure I use all the HDMI slots up. I haven’t downloaded any thing important since I got my 360 with the exception of updates and a demo of Smash TV. I’m not sure what all he has though. We’ll get together and talk it out and see what happens.

There isn’t a chance that something he has might be saved to the internal memory right? Doesn’t the 360 come with like 512K of memory or something like that?

So, the jasper is next in line huh? I just did a search on it to see what that’s all about. Do any of you who have the falcon notice a difference in noise and heat reduction? I was just in this for the HDMI output, but it seems that the rabbit hole has gotten deeper. I’m sure I could sell off my 360 for about $280 and hold out until the jasper gets here. I haven’t fire it up in almost a year. But is their a status indicator that can show how many hours it’s been played or when it was last used so I can have some sort of proof about it newness for potential buyers?

The only thing that might be saved are system settings, things like that. Your gamertag and all that info are stored locally on hard drive or memory card.

If you haven’t downloaded anything, you’re really in the better position to do this than he is.

The noise output is lessened depending on what model DVD drive your system comes with. Since your 360 is older, I assume you have a Toshiba/Samsung. The BenQ drive is supposed to be a lot quieter and are found in the newer models. Here’s a link to find out which drive you have.

Just to let u know I have two hard drives and when I first changed hard drives the 360 didnt recognized any gamerprofile then I recovered from xbox live and all of my gamerprofiles turned corrupted and lost all my data no matter what I tried.
