Xbox 360 Live = Back Catalog. 2D Fighters?

This is some potentially good news here. I have no idea how software licenses work, but here’s the scoop for us Xbox 360 users. The idea here is that some of the Xbox back catalog is going to become available to purchase over the market place. I personally would love to have the ability to download Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for the projected 1200 points, instead of $90 on ebay (bugs aside).

Most of the other fighting games that are backwards compatible are fairly cheap second hand (Guilty Gear XX #Reload, and Street Fighter Anniversary), but there is always hope that this type of thing would spur some activity on the software emulation system in the 360. (Where is that CvS2 compatibility Microsoft!?)

“Starting on Dec. 4, all Xbox Live members will receive a free system update with a host of new features and enhancements. Included in this update will be the launch of Xbox Originals, which, for the first time, will enable consumers to download and own full Xbox games, such as Halo, Psychonauts, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge and Fable, among others, directly to their Xbox 360. This new service will launch with an array of blockbuster titles spanning the most popular genres from action-adventure to classic role-playing games.”

At any rate, I figured I would share the news.

Here is a link to the full article which I quoted. It includes some other tidbits about the “Fall dashboard update” Microsoft is planning for Dec. 4th. http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=175527

It is nice, Although it could be a year or two before you might actually find a game like that. It all depends on the rate at which they make certain games available. I would bet on the possibility of them starting of with games that did not originally sell well, then moving to a once a month Original Xbox hit.
