Very solid movie IMHO. I went in like ehhh im hyped but not too hyped.
Spoiler
The start with Quicksilver please don’t get me started cause he was poised to steal the show. I did like how they handled the whole Quicksilver and Mags being his dad very slick.
So im ok with the new timeline we have and well lets be honest they sorta needed this to have any chance in hell verse Apocalypse, Cause that scene after the credits ummm 2 Xmen stories always end Xmen. Dark Phoenix saga and Age of Apocalypse lol.
Youngneto with dat display of POWER tho![details=Spoiler] First Class that nigga struggled to move a satellite dish, now he’s carrying stadiums around while controlling Sentinels. What a come up, lol.[/details]
I thought it was really good. The special effects were great, especially during some scenes. The 3D looked pretty good aside from a few times it was kinda cheesy looking. The fight choreography was great. Aside from the obvious show stealing scenes (quicksilver, magneto) I really liked the little sequence where Colossus and Blink were taking on the sentinels using “portal” tactics. The acting was top notch, as would be expected from such a cast. My only gripe would really be that I felt they could have spent a little more time before sending Wolvie back just showing the absolute despair they were experiencing in the future and a little more background of the progression to that point, It felt kind of rushed (though I must say I’m a little sick of movies cutting it close to 3 hours so maybe it was for the better). Not to mention that the fix that they pulled off was much needed.
A question I have though
Spoiler
So in the timeline we’re left with wolverine never went into Weapon X and is the bone Wolverine?

I thought wed get a bit more Bishop, next time I guess.
Didn’t hate it, but didn’t enjoy it. For sure not on the level of Winter Soldier, and not even as good as First Class imo. I walked out of the movie with the same feelings after watching the first Spider-man reboot. It didn’t feel like the writers were trying to make a good comic book movie, so much as just try to make a decent enough movie to undo the previous installment. Unlike other time travel movies that are equally as messy and filled with plot holes, DOFP didn’t have me engaged by the end. Future timeline action was very cool, but irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. Present timeline plot meandered and became goofy in the last act.
Post credits scene:
Spoiler
Young humanoid Apocalypse being worshiped by ancient Egyptians as he uses telekinesis to build a pyramid. CG looked janky as hell. I wanted to slap the guy behind me for getting excited about it lol
Wow!
If X1 was singer’s “SF2 World Warrior” and X2 was his HF, then this is his ST (unless Apocalypse manages to top this)
Even if you hate the Singer films and you love FC, I would recommend seeing the film. It. is basically a FC sequel.
Pros
–Acting all around. If FC was Young Magnus film, then DFOP is young Xavier, MAcAvoy;s. Dinklage was good;I wish just wish we saw more of him.
–SFX
Fights , when they happened, were very cool. IF you like MVC style assists, you will like Blink.
–The last 30 minutes…and the ending! Superb
–Humor. This is surprisingly one of the more funny x-flicks IMO.
–The references/flashbacks to the other films
–Wolverine having a good presence in the film, but not overpowering everyone
–end credit scene was hype!
–Chris Claremont and Len Wein cameos in the Congressional hearing!
Cons -
–Even though we were told the future scenes would be limited, they need 1/2 more sequences with them especially in the middle of the film.
. I feel that after the initial 10 min setup in the future, and before the end, Singer kinda lets us almost forget the future characters.
–While I am the last person to need an action fix, the middle or so needed some more hard hitting action to break up some other scenes.
–While I followed the time travel quite well, I’d have wanted some kind of explanation of how Kitty can just send people back. Secondary mutation, Charles boosting her powers, etc something
I cant give a rating yet, but IMO its tied with Winter Soldier. Its singers best and continues to steer the x-train back from the abyss that Brett Ratner and Gavin Hood and Tom Rothman led it into.
[details=Spoiler]The point of the future timeline action scenes at the end was to build up the tension/suspense until we reach the climax of the movie. It’s a cheap tactic because you know that killing off characters in the future timeline will have no impact once the past is fixed. Despite knowing that we would get a timeline reset and character deaths in the future would mean nothing in the end; I thought the last sequence was well executed and was able to successfully build suspense because shit was hitting the fan on both sides and we’re left waiting for Mystique’s answer.
Also, pretty sure the guy behind you was only getting hyped because of the implications of revealing Apocalypse. I didn’t care of the Pyramid building but was definitely hyped that the next movie is going to involved Apocalypse in some way.[/details]
I hated it. The writers of the x-men movies are completely retarded because even up until now the X-men movies still contradict each other.
The movie would have been good if it wasn’t for the strong incontinuity and unsolved questions.
Spoiler
-So Wolverine is still all bones in the year he was sent to ok but why is Emma Frost dead at that time and yet she is alive and a teen in X-men origins?
-If Mystique died after she got caught in 1972, how come she is with Magneto in X1-3?
-How did Professor X physically resurrect after X3?
-How did Magneto get his powers back after X3, i thought the mutant cure thing wiped it out?
-How did Kitty Pride get the ability to transport people back in time?
-How did Wolverine get his adamantium back when he lost it in the Wolverine?
-Trask is an old black guy in the Last Stand but here he is Tyrion Lannister?
I do like the fact that everybody came back (i wish Nightcrawler made his return) but the movie was just that unenjoyable due to the amount of questions in my head. The amount of plot holes and contradictions is just fucking stupid. Fox killed the X-men. The only way the X-men can be saved for the new generation is if they do a reboot which is sad because I lke most of the actors chosen for the characters.
edit: they really should be using the popular 90’s cast: Cyc, Wolv, Gambit, Storm, Rogue, Nighcrawler, Iceman, Beast, Jean, Shadowcat instead of just picking random mutants who would be getting like a 5 min in total screen time.
The x-books are good, they are not all about persecution. I do dislike that recently they went back to the whole irrational mutant hate thing. The X-men did have a good thing with Utopia and it was great. You messed with a mutant, Cyclops would send an army of mutants to kick your ass. Good guys, bad guys, a lot of them were united under king Cyclop’s rule. They had were having a good run, they were heroes of San Francisco. They were actually working with the Avengers and becoming more accepted thanks to Captain America’s push. Then the fucking schism had to come.
What pisses me off more than the new irrational hate towards mutants again theme is not the hate and persecution, it’s very hard for racism to disappear. What pisses me off more than that is the forced division there is on the x-men, on mutants. blue team, yellow team. They want to make Cyclops the most hated mutant. Wolverine his most loyal soldier, now he wants to stab him in the face. Can’t wait for the schism to finally end.
Great movie. I hold off before I say it was better than Winter Soldier, but that’s the feeling I have right now.
Jennifer Lawrence was awesome. Period.
However, Blink and Quicksilver really stole the show when it came to the action sequences.
My take on the events of the movie.
Spoiler
X3 never happened.
The Wolverine movies didn’t happen - maybe.
If you take a look at the last scene in the school, you’ll notice a few things:
Rogue and Bobby together. Rogue has the white streak in her hair, so we can infer that X1 indeed happened.
Also Wolverine’s presence alone confirms X1 happened.
Kitty and Peter are teaching a class. There’s no romantic involvement implied, but it’s obvious a “wink, wink, nod, nod” type of situation.
There’s nothing I saw to deny that X2 happened.
Cyclops and Jean returning is a huge flag waving that X3 didn’t happen.
Perhaps I’m reading too much into it, but I think there may have been some foreshadowing of a Wolverine/Storm hookup. I truly hope so, if for nothing else to let Cyke/Jean breathe a bit going into X-Men: Apocalypse - which HAS to have Cable.
I think we have to assume that the Wolverine movies didn’t happen either. Why? Because as someone stated above, Emma Frost is a kid in that movie, meanwhile in First Class, which is movie canon, she was a grown woman who ended up dissected by Trask. Also take into account that in the second Wolverine movie, he spends the entire time mourning a death that didn’t happen.
So I’d put both Wolverine movies and X3 in the “alternate timeline” folder and leave them there. Sadly this means that we can probably say goodbye to ever seeing a Cyclops/Havok arc or have Emma Frost in any of these movies. Kinda weird, but I’d rather the first Wolverine to be canon and FC to be the alternate timeline, just to undo the damage to Havok and Emma.
Going forward, I hope these producers and directors have learned to give a little more respect to the source material. I’m not expected a complete carbon copy story to movie conversion, but not taking that same ridiculous amount of liberties to point where a retcon is needed.
