Usually I have to be one to remind people that X-23 is a âCanon Immigrantâ from X-Men Evolution to comics just like how Harley Quinn is a âCanon Immigrantâ from Batman: The Animated Series to comics. Indeed, if weâre talking about X-23 as she first appeared, Laura was rather ambiguously brown with naturally tanner skin than most âwhiteâ people to point that she could basically pass as anything except for maybe black:

She just gradually became whiter in comics because Wolverine is white and Sarah Kinney was, I think, white. To me, thatâs fine since it makes âsenseâ, especially since having a healing factor means Laura shouldnât be able to tan anyway if her skin wasnât already that dark and both of her âparentsâ were drawn having rather light skin.
That said, thereâs basically no excuse for whoever they get to play Daken to at least not be able to âpassâ as hapa even if that person is actually âpureâ white. I mean, youâre really trying to tell us (read: me) that with as many Asian women go for white men, you really canât find a half-Asian guy who looks decently close to the part and can act well enough? I call bullshit.
That said, I wouldnât be surprised if we saw a repeat of that terrible King of Fighters movie where Daken ends up as âmixedâ as Kyo was: half-white and half-white.
