x mania europe

There is no need to, Zass already did it:

http://shoryuken.com/f8/proposal-usa-japanese-speed-standards-super-turbo-should-unified-136546/

It’s really not a huge deal to adjust though.

France has always been behind Japan. To the point where they refer to claw, boxer and dictator as balrog, m.bison and vega. If they use US or World boards i’m almost certain they’ll be set to T2 to be as close as possible to the Japanese standard of T3.

He didn’t do the actual tests. What mike tries to do is find out how much differences are there. Which are very useful information.

For example, I have asia version (which has same speed as US version iirc) and DGV has JPN version.

When we provide the setup we set it to US T2 and JP T3, which are close but not exactly the same.

But we want to find out how much difference are there… imagine if we have a tourney with 8 setup, we might not be able to get all 8 US boards or 8 JP boards.

Are you saying that US fixed T2 is faster than JP fixed T3? If so, can you confirm that you controlled for stage? zass had stopwatch tested them to be basically equivalent years back: http://shoryuken.com/f2/ccc2-free-select-2-most-equivalent-arcade-free-select-3-a-136571/

If you have a 60 fps camera, a recording would be appreciated.

if i remember correctly, he timed the speed of the stages clock. i am timing the actual movements of the characters. in this case, sim…his jump should be easiest to see the difference since he is slowest. i dont know if my camera is 60fps, but i dont think it should matter. whoever lands first, is fastest. i will start a new thread after the weekend and test/record it. if someone wants to start the thread and let me know what i should look out for, id appreciate it. i have 3 cabs lined up and will also be placing a ggpo setup next to it, and will simultaneously hit the jump straight up button with sim to see who moves fastest(if i can wire all the games to one cherry switch, i will do that). i intend to find out what speeds line up best with jpn 3.

You guys are almost as good as me at derailing.

its semi on topic. if x-mania EU is on jpn, speed 3…then everyone should practice as closely as possible to that. (not me…would love to go, but cant). i will gladly play everyone on ggpo though training up for it… especially you wolmar!

Since the location is identical to previous Kumite#1, i guess they’ll use the same setup: japanese board with T3, Seimitsu joystick and Sanwa buttons (the standard in japan for 2X).

Its official, come hell or high water I’m flying to France for this. Shari, let’s moneymatch.

mike, dont know if it is too much to ask.

but if you are gonna test it, try to see if you can test the chun/sim/gief stages on both us and jpn.

according to dgv, he felt that not only there are speed differences on the normal stages, but on those fast stages, the us t2 speed is quite a bit faster (compare to normal stages) than the jp t3 speed.

thx

Yeah, 60fps doesn’t matter in the visual comparison test but having an exact 60fps recording would help align with recordings that Sorwah and I were planning to capture soon.

And back to my original question, can you confirm that Dhalsim was jumping in the same stages on both setups during your visual comparison test? This is the most important detail because each stage has its own speed.

Pfft i am scraping together just to actually go i’ll be glad if i have money to eat.

Tell you what, if you don’t have money I can match you against a can of tuna to see if I know what I am talking about as far as ST.

edit: I am going if I have to sleep under a bridge in Toulouse saturday night…not joking either, that is how serious ST is, you will willingly become homeless for it.

Hah i’ll bring surströmming.

Also Fulaani i am calling you out on your weak Samosa.

I’ll bring some real Mauritian Samosa so you can have a taste of the real thing.

You guys are so lucky. I’d kill to be able to attend this. There is absolutely no excuse for any Euro ST player not to make this. JPN players = massive level up. Lots and lots of vids please!

I just nOticed the "best euro player " special prize…it doesn’t bug me that much, i just find it a bit weird to not be qualified because of nationality. Can you imagine the streamwarrior’s outragE if evo gave money to the best American?

It’s a bit odd. But if players like Aniken and Otochun are special guests it seems alright to give the european guy who came closest some recognizion as well.

I can see people saying it sort of supports a fatalist attitude towards playing the japanese, I can also see people saying it’s just a cool extra prize in line with the general idea of giving the Euro ST scene a boost without reading too much more in to it.

I think that’s cuz they’re billing this X Mania as Japan vs Europe, hence the best Euro player prize. Definitely no fatalism when playing the Japanese. I’m a firm believer that just cuz they’re top players doesn’t mean they can’t be beat (that includes Japanese, American, whatever).

Is this going to be the ONLY xmania for 2011, or ia it an additional EU one?

Also, is it possible to join the team tourney as a solo participant? I’m probably going to be the only one fron my region going.
