Im going to miss Whedon’s run on Astonishing X-Men. It provided such a compelling take on the team, introducing new things such as SWORD and fresh baddies (Danger and the Breakworld’s aliens). The series also levelled up Summers tremendously in everybody’s eyes, resurrected Rasputin, and had a great blend of humour and seriousness. And Magneto didn’t show up once! (if i recall correctly).
That book made emma and cycke acceptable new leaders of the xmen in my eyes. It also made them a acceptable couple as well.
The danger room stuff sucked to me at 1st, but danger “herself” wasnt that bad.
all in all it is a milestone arc or series imo. If Prof X never lead the x-men again i’d be fine with emma and scott leading.
edit: also the book made it feel strange to call scott cyclops now, and emma “white queen”

Man, I knew something sad would happen to Kitty. When she didn’t show up in Messiah CompleX, I was sure of it. That was really nice issue, though. The artwork was even better than usual. The Spider-Man moments really made me chuckle, too. Everything fit together and those last two pages were a great way to end their story.
I dunno 'bout you guys, but Astonishing started out FUCKING AWESOME!
By the time the Breakworld arc started I felt it slump, not to mention cuz of all those annoying plot twists. I also hate Grand to death. Logan was Uber God Tier in this book.
Alright lately I’ve been reading the Essential X-Men collections, you know the black and white books chalk full of comics? Even though they are old, they don’t come off Stan Lee-ish, Chris Claremont can really write, even for that time period.
So far I am loving it, and will continue to collect these.
On the opposite spectrum of X-fandom, can anyone tell me if there are anymore Astonishing trades after Vol.3? I got sucked in and obsess about reading more, but can’t find any trades.
Anyone else feel that Uncanny #500 will be really, really good? For once in my life I will start reading X-Men not in trade form, I know…scary.
Astonishing X-Men volume 4: Unstoppable just came out in TRADE, BABY last week.
Do you have Essential X-Men v.2? It’s the one with the Dark Phoenix Saga and Days of Future Past. Well, I don’t think I need my copy any longer and if you want it, you can have mine.
Sounds good, I still owe you for the Batman set-up, which I actually like though some of the art was fugly. I can send something next week for sure.
After Volume 4 would it be easy for me to track down the remaining issues? Or is it just better to wait?
Now I got an urge to whip out MvC2 and pimp my X-team.
Astonishing v.4 is the end of the Whedon/Cassaday run. The next issue will be the start of the Warren Ellis/Simone Bianchi run.

Sucks Whedon is leaving, I heard it was on bad terms as well. Ellis is great though, so I have faith it’ll still be one of the better X-comics.
Bad terms? Where’d you hear that? From the beginning, they said they were gonna do 12 issues together. Then when they realized how much fun they were having, they decided to do 12 more (plus one special).
Ahh alright, friend of mine who is a big Whedon whore told me so, and I read a few things about how he was tired of doing superhero themed comics. I really should stop buying Wizard.
What villains can I expect in Vol.4? Only thing I know of is the trip to Breakworld, I guess Ord could make a dramatic comeback.
Also I lol’d on the Essential Vol.1, the issue where the Sentinels return and there’s the caption with Lee and Kirby talking about no kissing would go on if they still had the book.
Was that Geraldo in issue #100 the same one I’m thinking of?

i’ve been really getting to x-men after i tried messiah complex. It was hard at first because i didn’t know who all these new x-men were. I went back and started reading and finished endangered species, astonishing x-men:gifted, and deadly genesis.
is there any other stories you recommend? i’ve read age of apolocypse before and i’m not sure if house of M is worth the read. i will be starting grant morrison’s run soon. i was wondering more about like apolocypse:the twelve, new x-men:academy x, x-treme x-men. any of them worth reading?
i also like to mention that humberto ramos and skottie young are my favorite artists. i love their style of drawing and that played a huge part in why i tried reading messiah complex.
