ok ok ok i will, sorry about that, i gotta update a lot of stuff tonight prolly after dinner
If you BB:CS on PSN, hit me up. Have a nice room every nice with decent to great players. MN/IL/and a few northern WI folks (who are pretty damn good imo).
You’re almost there. If I’m 3S Ken, and I’m pressuring 3S Ryu with c.LK, standing close MP, etc., I’m almost guaranteed I won’t be eating a mashed Reversal move as (a.) the timing required is incredibly tight for my opponent to even attempt that as 3S does not have SF4’s Absolute Guard mechanic, (b.) even if my opponent does do reversal SRK, you’re constantly Option Select Parrying on almost every move, rendering yourself pretty safe, (c.) throws are INCREDIBLY strong, strong enough to throw you out of virtually everything (save for a few supers and specials) even if you do hit a Reversal Super/Special.
Also, how does the above quoted section not sound scrubby?
Therein lies the rub. Why should the person who’s getting knocked down, pressured, etc. have any sort of advantage? Shouldn’t all the advantage in that situation go to the aggressor who scored that vital knockdown?
As an aside, the characters who don’t have strong wakeup options typically will have better options elsewhere in the game; it’s all part of character and game design.
SF4 essentially autoblocks for you due to Absolute Guard. During that time that your character is in his block animation, you can buffer your move, and the first possible moment, your character will perform the move. Try doing that (let go of downback and starting hitting buttons) in 3S and see what happens.
All this talk cuz I mash reversal SRK constantly lmao. Some may call it scrubby I call it opportunity knocking lol. Which by the way is a bad habit that I need to shy away from. If you can hear me doing it you know it’s coming. I notice a lot of people I play tho hear it and stop whatever pressure they are applying in fear of the reversal SRK. Sometimes I just start acting like I’m mashing it out for this reason to ease the pressure off and create a window to escape.
Andrew, you have to stop comparing a steak to a hamburger.
Thanks for the explanation andrew. I always have struggled with what to do when blocking strings of attacks. There really is no way to cover all your bases in that situation it’s more about guessing what the opponent will do, IE turtle up, grab, or continue the pressure.
Maybe they can do a 3rd strike style of retooling for SF4 in arcade (longshot i know) and make those reversals and option selects harder? I dunno. I like SSF4 in general but it does feel like the fights are not as dynamic as they could be or as they are in other fighters. Somewhat routine.
OK just a few things here
Yeah like foot mashing on dp isn’t scrubby in sf4 honestly just because of the way the game is. Chunpai like the concept of reversal is the same in SF4 compared to almost any other FG but the ease of input (in other words, you do it kinda whenever, and it will come out) is what people who play pretty much any other iteration of SF is what bothers people the most.
Awesome fight night last night guys. There were lots of surprises for sure in the ranbats. Remember to be ready for SuperSF4 and Real Bout 2 next week. RB2 is way ez to play so just MAME that shit. Here are the updated results so far : http://shoryuken.com/f6/milwaukee-fight-night-cvs-ranbats-wk-2-results-246334/
choopie sorry for being a retard about leaving you off this time even after you freaking asked me if you were on there. Herp derp moment for me so I will double whatever points you earn at the next one.
As for the prize for whoever wins, I’ll pay your entry fee at the tracks tournament following the conclusion of the ranbat.
I still haven’t picked the games for week 5 so please post up suggestions. Someone already suggest CvS2 so that of course is a possibility but I’m open to anything. Just looking for sit down and play games not crazy ass shit like Marvel.
Anyway good games last night.
Shoutouts to Gaijinder for finally making it out again.
Shoutouts to Carlos for taking a break from grinding out new glyphs with Shanoa to put me in my place in SS2.
Shoutouts to Jerry to holding the lead in the ranbats, hosting fight nights as always, and protecting my TV from random ppl who walk by his place and see 10 tvs in the window and decide “Hmmm… how much crack could I get for those???”
Shoutouts to foot for disguising his DPs even when he’s mashing them out.
Shoutouts to Jim for playing Vampire in single player.
Shoutouts to Andrew for not playing me in Garou ;(
Shoutouts to Price for letting me beat him with crappy rachel in Blazblue.
Shoutouts to choppie for making it out to fight night week after week and busting out his REAL main… Gouken.
Shoutouts to Chun Pai for showing up late enough that we were all convinced he decided to dedicate himself to starcraft and airplane surfing.
Shoutouts to shinwolverine for unlocking the bosses in KOF 98 UM.
Shoutouts to Dot for finally making it out. BTW to you happen to have any younger sisters?.. No… wait. I mean older. Older sisters. Yeah, that’s the ticket. Also someone needs to sit you down and teach you how to play 2D. Obviously you know how to do moves and all that but now you need to learn how to play.
Shoutouts to Talbain for being the hottest furry in the ownaverse.
See you guys next week.
that is all.
LOL, nice find, Foot.
Yeah, I’m a 2D newb. I’ve always been better at the 3D fighting games, though not by much. (I owned in DoA4! …Sometimes, lol.) sigh Feel like I’m in a rut with SSFIV, honestly, 'cause of exactly what you said.
Also, um, I don’t have any siblings. I have lots of cousins, some of which are female, but they’re either married or way too young. And live across the country. Sorry, Dan, hahahaha.
Neither this:
Nor this:

hahahahahahahahaha lol
oh yeah so anyway like next time you come just get someone to actually walk you through things so you’re not just doing moves. It might take some time but I’m sure ppl will be willing to get you on the right track.
was the funniest shit ever on that show.
So I’m dropping Super for Samurai Showdown 2. I can feel a change in the wind. It’s telling me to quit my job and become a pro SamSho2 player. WHO’S WITH ME?!
Maybe eventually, Carlos, maybe eventually… Though it wouldn’t be SS2 for me; it’d have to be something in the rhythm genre. Can do musical things more naturally than fighting games, hahaha.
LOL, the resemblance is uncanny!
Well, I’ve tried on my own, so I guess I have no choice. I’ll give it a shot.
EDIT: Sorry if you don’t see me on for Castlevania tonight, Carlos. My cousin wants to play SSFIV with me on PS3.
I think I have more potential to be awesome with Honda than Chun Li. Maybe?
If I can get jab-fierce hands down. Shit’s hard!
jwong is coming to lacrosse in december it looks like. I think we should all pile into dan’s school bus and go. They did just put up the info and it’s a ways away but the only non-signup question post on the SSF4 boards is
Lacrosse uses codes lol
So there’s a legit fighting game-centric arcade that’s opening up in Brookfield, IL. Only a two hour drive from my apartment. Probably going to check it out sometime next month on a weekend and see how it is; I’m dying for a real arcade and according to the Chicago thread, the arcade owner seems eager to cater to the FGC.
i wanna go there next week fuck it.
Oh, shoot, JWong? I definitely wanna go now! Most likely I won’t be able to go on my own, so I’m definitely gonna need a ride. I just hope people don’t mind that I tag along merely to spectate… My skills aren’t up to tournament level yet, obviously.
As for this Brookfield arcade, I’m interested. Arsenal, would you be willing to give me a ride if I can get to your place? lol
Pretty sure my wife wouldn’t appreciate me leaving the apartment on a Saturday night with an Asian girl sitting in the passenger seat… yeah, it’d probably .
EDIT: All of us should figure out when we want to head down to Ghost’s. Preferrably when the Chicago guys are planning something (tourney, gathering, etc). Holla.
