lol at ultra headbutt beating out ultra dash punch/jump ins

DOOF GOI

I had fun, guys. Thanks for having me and my newb self. Kinda really want to pick up BB:CS now, lol.

Oh, and for the River City Ransom fans, this is for you:

GGS everyone. I had a good time. Dan next week I’ll bring you some DVD’s. I keep forgetting. I need dat Vampire Savior and 2k2. Good luck out in Minnesota to everybody going. Rep dat Fo’ One Fo’!!!

I don’t think I’ll ever understand why stuff happens in SF4 the way it does. Like, you shouldn’t move the joystick during Blanka’s ultra startup animation, but you should afterwards? WHY?!?

All you need to know about Blanka’s U1 is on start up you have to guard low, but the next hit is an overhead so guard high. Just watch out for that CHIP.

I know, but I moved the joystick from low block to stand block during the startup animation and got HIT. Then Price told me I couldn’t do that, so the next round when he activated ultra, I did what he told me to (go from low block to stand block after the animation is over) and it worked… but I don’t understand why they’d do that, it’s counter-intuitive and goes against every instinct you have in fighters.

EDIT: Also, lol jabs. Especially Balrog’s. That shit is stupid. And being able to mash SPD/SRK during a block string, although effective, seems scrubby to me. There’s no fucking way I’m mashing buttons when getting pressured in almost any other game… besides SF4.

LOL, yeah. The whole block stun mashing thing can really annoy me in SF4. You should really watch some replays with the inputs on for some laughs.

Just a quick reminder for the MN tourney; GNG said most/all SSF4 setups will be PS3. I know most of you guys have 360 sticks. I have one Namco + Inpin converter I’m bringing for the tourney and can loan the stick when necessary, but just sorta be aware that sticks may be an issue.

Welcome to SF4!!!

the thing is though while your doing a blockstring and you know someone is mashing something you can bait it out and punish. like if you do Rogs J.HK, cr.lp, cr.lp and it gets blocked most people think your gonna go for a tick throw so they start mashing throw or dp and thats when you can just hold back and wait for them to whiff something and punish with cr.MP to straight dash punch or something.

like to me sf4s blockstring system seems like a scrubby version of a meta game, like 3s but instead of parries you have mashing lol.

Yeah, I baited out c.LP and punished with counter hit standing HK, but… is that really the type of game that I want to be playing? Baiting out mashes?

well it really depends on what type of player your playing. most good players respect your blockstrings and will block it hopes of not getting hit at all. the situation really dictates when someone is gonna attempt to mash outta something. if your blockstrings are air-tight your dont have to worry about it though, like witj rog people can mash out of a cr.lp to cr.mp. or with Ryu if you do cr.lp to cr.mk to fireball ppl can mash in between cr.lp to cr.mk and cr.mk to fireball.

I typically can catch people with counter hit c.LK -> Dash Straight if they mash in between c.LPx2, but still, the very fact that shit like that WORKS is unsettling. In virtually every other fighter, you sure as shit won’t be mashing while your opponent is putting offensive pressure on you.

Why didn’t we play A2 at all last night Andrew?

Practicing for this weekend in Super. Remember, I picked this game up a couple weeks ago, I need all the experience I can get before a tournament.

A2 > 99% of other SF games.

Yeah A2 is awesome!!! Honestly I’m kinda getting sick of SSF4. I think I’m gonna concentrate on getting better at BB and get my skills back to where they used to be in HDR.

i’m gonna have battle fantasia set up before you guys come over next time and goddamnit youre going to like it.

Hey, Dan, I think you’re forgetting to update the first post’s upcoming tourneys.

I think if people are truly mashing in local play you can probably hear and see that shit coming. Yeah, online is different, but online is just different period.

I don’t know the most about fighting game mechanics but what’s different about the way 3S or ST handles that situation where P1 is executing a blockstring and P2 is trying to use an SRK or similar type of move to interrupt? Is it that in other games you’d have to execute a reversal with a tight timing window vs just repeatedly doing the move to get it out at the first possible opportunity, because the engine does it for you, sort of. But wouldn’t being given that opportunity require the attacker to have dropped a link or messed one up?

I guess I’m just wondering what the alternative is because if you make the defender’s GTFO move (SRK or whatever) harder to do don’t you put them at even more of a disadvantage when they’re already in a bad situation? Especially with characters who don’t have one of those easy “get off me” attacks, they’d constantly be under pressure from those links and other throw mixups if they can’t zone one of those high pressure characters like balrog, adon, or zangief away from them.

Like I said I have a pretty poor understanding of mechanics so maybe I sound like an idiot but I guess I’m just not understanding what the alternative is to this “mashing” complaint. If the other character stopped blocking during a blockstring he gets hit, right? This happens to me all the time when I misjudge how long strings are and start trying to attack too soon. How can you mash?
