I need those yellow dust washers damnit! I wonder if Art would be down for making some.
Is there anywhere I can get a high res scan?
I think he would now that he’s down for making custom dust covers However, it’d be cruelly unfair to those with an actual Sanwa FLASH 1 to have to share the design with everyone else, not to mention it’d make little to absolutely no sense for people to use them on non-FLASH 1 sticks if the dust cover has the words Sanwa FLASH 1 emblazoned on it.
Just you wait though Kyle. Zweihander and I have got something really neat planned for us who only own an ASCII Optical though which will make your jealousy for those with the authentic FLASH 1 dust cover go away!
If it’s a dust cover that says ascii instead of flash with the same looks, I am so down for one.
Didn’t someone recently get one without the dust cover? If someone will scan it I’ll Photoshop it to say ASCII.
I’m not all that jealous. If I can save money (hah) buying the ASCIIs then so be it. I can’t imagine what you have in store but hit me up when it’s ready.
In other optical news, Sasuke182’s custom circle gate feels really damned good on an optical stick. I bought one from him as a curiosity and ended up leaving it on. At $11 I’d recommend more people give it a try.
It’ll be a bit more than just replacing the “FLASH 1” with “ASCII”, lemme just tell you that! :bgrin:
We’re putting a bit more flair on ours, but it will be a design that will be simple, easy on the eyes, and something that ASCII Optical owners can proudly flaunt.
Yeah, Ketchy Kech’s Sanwa FLASH 1 from Toodles unfortunately didn’t come with the dust cover.
Good news on the circular gates though! I’m glad that Sasuke182’s stuff came out all right. How’s the throw feel compared to the circular gate on say an LS-32 or Happ stick? Actually, forget that, how’s it feel in comparison to the octagonal gate and square gates from Sanwa? Is the throw noticeably longer? Are there any deadzones or places where your microswitches don’t activate as well as you want? How do the corners feel? Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. I’m quite curious and I know a friend of mine would be SO interested in getting one of these.
My execution is fine with it. I was primarily concerned about the corners/diags as well. The engage distance seems the same. It was claimed that the throw is longer but that doesn’t really concern me since I don’t ride the gate.
good shiet on ASCII dust covers, im interested for sure!
id use a flash dust cover on a reg stick if i was using yellow buttons or art
No doubt, as would I. The Sanwa FLASH 1 dust cover is brilliant since despite the fact that it stands out immediately due to the bright yellow color, it doesn’t clash with any other design. You can essentially match it together with any button color scheme, custom artwork, or case design you want and it won’t intrude on the overall presentation of the arcade stick at all.
I dunno though, I still don’t think the exact FLASH 1 dust covers shouldn’t be available to the public. I might be sounding like an up-myself-elitist dick, but I really don’t think any other arcade stick besides those with the actual Sanwa JLHS-8Y FLASH 1 should be flaunting that dust cover. Now, of course, getting a custom dust cover from Art with that shade of yellow with something OTHER than FLASH 1 imprinted on it, like say JLF or LS-32, that would be pretty cool and I could definitely see that happening. I don’t want to start an argument though, I just want to throw out my opinion on this.
lol it dont matter if they dont got the actual flash stick who really cares bout a dust washer, its like if some one has a fake jacket and i have a real 1 i just laugh but thats just me, its like when people use other arts from a stick on theirs because it looks good or use art from deviantart and never give the person credit, as long as a person isnt trying to sell a reg stick as a flash with that dust washer its all good lol but i guess some people could feel different if they paid 200 for a joystick.
I wouldn’t feel like I was committing sacrilege putting them on ASCII sticks. It would be goofy tossing them on a JLF though. You’re not going to fool anyone as soon as the microswitches click. I would honestly prefer an edit with the ASCII logo. As if to say, “I’m not rich but I like my opticals damnit!”
It would be like putting a BMW emblem on a Honda. You can’t fake the funk on a nasty dunk.
lol yep but to each its own
My attempt.
Super not perfect. :shake:
I need to get Shaft correct.

That looks very nice jdm; especially for MS paint. Once you’re happy with it please repost it as a BMP rather than JPG. The JPG compression is adding crusty little artifacts to your drawing. Also, do you have a source image to take a stab at a dust washer?
Edit: I tried to vectorize it and cleaned up the result.
I knew I have it.
So I looked through my Archive of SRK and found.
Too bad I didn’t find it when I attempted to reproduce the Sticker.
I had to use the bad of this.
Also this.

I went through so much working with those.
Laugh.
So here it is.
From laurie47.
I have the full-size BMP.
I made the picture smaller on purpose.
That was saved as BMP too, but SRK compressed it badly.
Here is the Dust Disc.

Well now you guys have good reference to make better than mine.
Looks like my MS Paint job is obsolete now.
I wish I could be the Hero.
Laugh.
Do you have a copy of it saved? The link is broken.
You did great. There’s no way I could freehand something like that.
You don’t see from his Photobucket?
Here, I upload to ImageShack.
the protective film is still on the washer. drool…
