Objective: Hook up Xbox360 inside Japanese arcade cabinet for Third Strike Online Edition.
I think this would be an awesome setup to have in my apartment, I don’t know if I could get the original scan-lines on the monitor via VGA on Xbox360, but I guess I could buy a scan-line generator if that doesn’t work out.
I’m just assuming as my knowledge in arcade cabinets is non existent, but if I’m just using an Xbox 360… I would need…
Panel (I can supply my own buttons/joysticks)
Shell
Monitor
Please correct me if I’m wrong.
This guy did it, and inspired me so, heh.

I don’t know what monitor you’re looking for exactly, but I think it’s rather hard to look for a monitor and then try to get it to fit into the cabinet itself. It can be done, but most monitors now a days are flat as oppose to the convex ones used before. Your best bet is to look for a whole cabinet and just make sure that the screen doesn’t have too many burn-ins.
It’s funny that you linked that video, because that’s the same one that inspired me to do the same.
You know, my friend is interested in buying my third strike CPS3 board.
So that would leave my Blast City without anything to play.
I was going to keep it, but I think I might just sell it and buy one again in the future.
So would you be interested in my Blast City?
The bad news though, is that it has Sega Bass Fishing burn in and the monitor has some convergence on the edges.
The former is only annoying on bright backgrounds and you won’t really notice the latter.
I’ll also throw in the 3rd strike marquee and move strips.
They’re custom made by a guy who probably won’t make them anymore(he got sick or something).
I believe it’s a 4 hour drive from LA to Vegas.
One candy cab supplier that I know of charges about $1000 for a Blast City.
I would ask $800 because of the monitor burn in.
Other cab info:
It’s jamma ready with a CPS2/3 kick harness included.
Full Seimitsu repro panel. It is very rare to find a 2 player Seimitsu Blast City panel. The same guy who made the move strips made it, so it’s very good quality.
The buttons are Seimitsu skeleton buttons, the ball tops are mesh balls, and there’s shaft covers on the LS-32s. Green for 1P, Pink for 2P.
Has a Sega 001 loom that has the JVS specific wires cut off(came that way). It sadly has the RCA plugs cut off as well, but I can point you in the right direction to add them back in.
Locks and key are included, but there’s no lock on the cash box.
Has some small holes on the front, because Sega added brackets to the cab when they imported to the USA.
I have the brackets and stand as well, but they look ugly in my opinion. I’m just going to throw them away if you don’t want them.
Let me know if you’re interested and I’ll ask my friend if he still wants my 3s board.
I’m not sure if he has the money right now, so I can’t sell it until I sell the 3s board because I need to be able to check if it’s working.
I know this might be stupid, but I’m really anal about burn-in. I burn-in wipe my plasma almost every night, just to show you how retarded I can get with it. I’m interested but is there a way to get my hands on a better monitor that would be suitable for the blastcity?
When it comes to arcade monitors, there’s 2 main parts.
There’s the tube, which is what the game is displayed on, and the chassis, which handles all the technical stuff.
Since the chassis is working with no problems, all you would need to do is find a better tube and swap them.
So with you being in Cali, candy cab central basically, you have a better chance than most for finding a burn free tube.
The problem is though, you can’t just use any tube. It has to be compatible with the chassis.
Ah gotcha, $800 is a little out of my price range at the moment. I was hoping for something around $500-600, not to mention I’d have to gas up for a 4 hour trip to Vegas. Your cab is beautiful, I’ll let you know if I simply cant get anything cheaper.
its gonna be very hard for you to find a blast city for that price you would have to get real lucky cheapest i seen latley was 700 thats cause he wanted to sell it quick and it only had a 1 player panel with 4 button layout and it already has the sega loom 001 that is hard to get now a days if i was u and could afford it u should pick it up
u could always get a astro city for that price but u would need a converter to run a 360 on it
if he lived near me i would pick it up sucks being on the east cost
According to Arcade Otaku, it’s only low rez (15 kHz), so no VGA input.
And it’s got a Wei-Ya chassis, which are pretty low quality when compared to Nanao monitors that usually come in candy cabs.
You should probably contact the seller so you can check it out in person.
Luck definitely plays a factor. I remember getting mine from some guy in Dallas, and paid $600 total for his Blast City and his Neo Candy 29. He actually even offered me his Japanese 3s A & B Board for $50 bucks more, but I was a noob, and didn’t realize how much those are.
Said I could take it home for 600, not sure if that’s a good deal but its around my price range. I looked up the monitor that comes with and suffers from goop bleeding or some shit. so blast city is the best choice because it does vga for xbox?
Watch out for the coinopstore guys, they are notorious for showing pics of one cab then sending you another filthy one. As you can clearly see not all of those images are even of the same cab. That said, if you can arrange to drop by in person and test one out that you like you could get a good deal.
Keep in mind that it’s going to be expensive to get this thing going for what you want…it isn’t just going to be $600 and you’re done.
You don’t have to specifically get a Blast City.
Just as long as it’s high rez (31 kHz) VGA.
So if you somehow found a Konami Windy II, Naomi Universal, Net City, Taito Egret 3, or Sammy Atomiswave cab, those would do the job fine.
(although for the last 2, they usually have a Wei-Ya chassis)
After you get one, you would need to get a VGA cable, pad hacked PCBs, and way to wire up the audio(not sure how to do this).
And depending on what you do, a way to power the console. So if you wanted to run the console off arcade power, you’d have to figure out a way to do it.
Otherwise you can just run the power cord out the cabinet and plug it in.
In theory, that’s what you gotta do. I haven’t done it myself, so I am unaware of any complications.
I’ll probably be making my own thread for my Blast City in a couple of weeks if you decide to get something else.
Man I feel for you bro. It took me a while to get some cabs. Living in Florida those Blast city’s are so common. I got a one for 250 bucks all set up with a 2p panel and loom harness. The first one I bought cost me 950. Don’t worry these things are more common than you think, you will eventually find one at the right price and condition. Just be patient and don’t let your emotions get a hold of you or you’ll find yourself paying too much. Good luck!
Damn man, you got a good ass deal. Thanks for the info
Ah thank you for the information, you’ve been super awesome with the knowledge. How bad is the burn-in? And would you consider dropping the price? 4 hour drive to Vegas is going to be easily another hundred. (I drive a jeep)
