WTB: 2 Pelican PS2->PS3 Controller Converters

have you guys try circuit city? i saw some in store and online.

Could you get some? I went to CC on BF and I bought the last one they had. I’d definitley buy some off you if you got them.

i’m not a seller but if i get some i will be charging more for them.

Hey thanks for posting this because I emailed him to cancel my order and he did. He claims he contacted Pelican to try to get more and they just laughed at him. Regardless, it seems he should give you a refund if you want to email him. Luckily I caught him before mine were to ship.

yea ive contacted pelican and they say they dont make them anymore…its amazing how bad of a company they are…the one thing they ever make thats actually the best of its kind is discontinued in a few months of being released…wow.

Axis: Other Pelican products sell more than the PS2/3 converter. The converter is on hold for other reasons, not because it was not selling. Just because something is good for “hardcore” players does not mean it sells like gangbusters to everyone else. 40,000 have been produced so far. I just don’t like seeing people jump to conclusions about things they are not familiar with.

Also, JubeiNinja, where did you see these online at CC? Do you have a link? I can’t find any on their website.

Damn, and I bought four of them from barnes and noble for $5 each. Who would have thought?

Well the representative at PDP (owners of pelican) told me that the product was discontinued due to complaints and its inherent “defect” That defect being that it was marketed and packaged as a “Guitar Hero” converter not as a straight Ps2/Ps3 converter, and ironically the latter of the two is the only function on it that actually works (and does a damn good job of it). And the funny thing is that i skipped over it a few times because of the fact that it was labeled as a “guitar hero converter” not a Ps2/Ps3 converter, and didnt find out how good of a job they did as a simple straight converter until a friend bought one a while back and i tested it out.

And if that information is incorrect given to me from a sales representative at pelican…its just another reason to not be a fan of pelican and it wouldnt surprise me in the least, given their track record.

Yeah…I figued that was probably the case

Do you know, and if so can you say, if they’re working on a newer better converter? I wouldn’t be nearly as worried about finding some of these if I knew that there’d be another converter released in the future.

Listen to DreamTR, he knows more about Pelican than any of us in here would/or could find out.

I really wish I could find more of these… When B. Dalton’s site had these error priced at $5 each, I bought 6 of them… I should have purchased a whole case!

Axis: The customer service rep that told you this was incorrect. There’s another reason that I can not say as to why it is being postponed for the moment. It has nothing to do with the Guitar Hero incompatibility because to be quite honest, the item sold out of its initial run of 40,000. The packaging stated it was compatible with GH and GH2 (to an extent), but the item stated it was a PS2/PS3 converter.

Now, as for your comment on Pelican’s track record, this can probably be said for any third party peripheral company. No one makes perfect products, but in the past 3 years, if you have not noticed, Pelican has made a great deal of progress with products that are innovative and are not just standard recycled peripheral from China packaging, because if that was the case, we would not see things like the Nerf line, officially licensed Nintendo products, VG Pocket systems, and this here converter you speak of.

I’m not saying Pelican is perfect, but they have definitely been upgrading their normal product lineup tremedenously.

SweetJohnnyV: Nothing’s been announced, and I know there is always the possibility of something else to come out, but it’s not the case as of yet. I do know more than I am letting on, but until the time is right, I can’t say much else.

MarkMan: I remember when those items were $5 at Barnesandnoble.com! I bought 24 of them, and they sent me 48 of them! Needless to say, I sold out of all of those pretty quickly.

Another note, the Pelican distributors do not have this product, so if you see it, pick it up.

I know it stated it, it was just that it was mainly packaged with giant yellow letters that said guitar hero or whatever.

The post was mainly made out of frustration stemming from attempting to call the pelican customer support line to ask a simple question for 3 days and having the automated “all our lines are busy” be all that i got. It just kinda makes me even more annoyed that it takes so much effort to get simple information from them; and the information that i did get was apparently either an intentional lie to get rid of me or the guy just had no clue and made something up.

Anyways so much of that annoyance could be avoided if companies (and this isnt just pelican) could just be more upfront with customers and take the 30 seconds it would take to answer their questions; that being said im not annoyed with anyone in particular, just with the situation, so if it seemed that any hostility was being directed in any one particular direction I apologise, for that was not my intent.

axis: the problem is, that response is probably what they were told to give you, it couls be entirely true that they were told that, but that is not the truth as to why it’s not being produced, and outside of the Product Development department, I don’t think many people know. They worked really hard in PD to make sure this converter did not have lag, believe me. I was there during this whole ordeal, and I’ve never seen a better converter.

yea, and they did a really good job on it too, which is why i was so frustrated that it just up and disappeared on me!

Since I can’t find these anywhere, anyone have any other suggestions for psx --> ps3 converters?

I’ll take that as a maybe then :wgrin:

It’s not a big loss for me currently. I picked up a couple of those Virtua Stick High Grade sticks. So, at least I can play stuff on the PS3 for now. I hope to eventually mod some sticks so that they just work on all the consoles, so I don’t have to deal with this stuff. But it’d still be nice to have some converters so that if my friends wanna use their MAS sticks, or whatever, they can play with those too.

I’ve got an extra Smart Joy USB converter…works on PS3…$16 shipped if anyone wants it…

does it have some kind of manufacturing flaw that can potentially damage controllers or consoles? If so, may you please tell us what the flaw is? I bought the last one at JR Music and computer world and it is perfect except for the fact that it grips the cord dongle too tightly no homo. It left marks on my HRAP2 cord dongle after I pulled it out.

I have one thats sorta like that too. One of them grips it really tight, and I noticed that on the inside it’s metal thats supporting the PS button. Whereas on my other one, it’s a different material and it’s not as tight. (no homo)

There’s no manufacturing defects, product is fine, it’s something completely unrelated.
