Orton being buddies with HHH has definately helped him. And same thing happened when HHH buddied up with the clique. It’s all about politics in wwf/e. and yes, the main event isn’t always what its about, you brought up Kurt Angle, he said himself he wanted to be a special attraction, the kurt angle match, and to outshine the main event, there is the undertaker match, and it was perfectly shown at wrestlemania, everywhere in Houston you would go, cars had it written all over, undertaker 16-1, Michaels rest in piece. That was the main event to us at the event.

What I think he’s saying is that, the main event can just get handed to you through politics and not because of your actual charisma and wrestling ability. The better and best wrestlers, are the ones that make the main event, an actual main event. And what Jae is saying, is that Orton has yet to really do something like that, and that there are plenty of other wrestlers that would be better suited to be in the main event picture than Orton, easy.
How a wrestler can get into the main event through politics, seems to water down the worth of it. And wrestlers like Orton still being there, but still not being able to truly be over as a heel is proof to that.
Which is EXACTLY why the WWE needs to push Swagga, Miz, MVP, Kofi, Bourne, Christian, Morrison, Ziggler, Regal, Legacy, Matt Hardy, Hardy Dynasty, The Roundtable. Those guys are the future of the WWE. Orton, while I agree, hasn’t really had a career defining moment like HBK or Taker but he has cemented his place. But I will always disagree when people say that Orton is a shitty heel because he is one of the best that the WWE has had in years. He is just too complex and intelligent of a heel for the younger folk to understand. I much prefer the quiet, methodical type of heel (Orton, Jake the Snake) than the running at the mouth yelling all over the place type of heel.
Orton’s character might not be as complex as you’re making it out to be. And if it IS, the storytelling the WWE uses, makes it look like complete shit and mad boring.
So your imagination could be adding to the complexity of Orton’s character, but what’s really in front of us could actually just be a steaming pile.

But what I DO know, is that it’s not as good as it was in Feb/Mar, and it’s run into the ground and extremely repetitive right now. Repeat episodes, it’s not even a different episode that follows a similar formula right now imo, it’s just the same exact episode with a slight change in skin.
It started to get REAL good when the entire cast of Raw was about to be against Orton, after he did all those punts. It would’ve been a really good storyline if it was Orton + Legacy, against the entire Raw cast trying to bring him down.
if they gave orton someone else im sure it would work out, but having it with cena over and over and over again doesnt help. i mean orton was excellent at the i quit match and did his heel shit and made it work but cena ruined the whole shit.
plus if they push the new guys really quick we’re going to have orton 04 again. wrestling is nothing but politics
to be fair, NOTHING wwe does is as good as the buildup in february-march. they save their best booking for building toward wrestlemania.
I agree with the beginning of your post but I can’t take anymore Cena, Orton, HHH, Batista, Rey, Taker, Big Show, etc. I had to miss a Y2J match just because I ragequit on watching Cena.
I prefer an intelligent heel as well, but Orton isn’t being intelligent lately and he’s not doing anything like a lot of posters are saying. He’s just rehashing the same shit over and over (while being proven wrong) and doing the same slow walk into the ring and he looked retarded when Batista got him in the ring beat him down and last Raw word is Orton looked like an idiot in the Cena match. The whole viper striking at any time was supposed to be a rehash of Stone Cold’s character but Orton hasn’t really done anything since attacking HHH’s family.
Also the whole guest host on Raw is just retarded, you can still have hosts but have a real gm. I don’t care if the gm is HHH or Regal but do something.
Raw needs to get rid of the guest host thing. PERIOD. I want to see the return of Anarchy Raw from earlier this year.
And also you have to understand that the late part of the year is always uninteresting. No real big PPV’s coming up aside from Survivor Series and that’s in November.

speaking of smarks, there was a really fucking annoying guy at the roh show calling all the spots that a wrestler would do, try and start the most corny and horrible chants, play a match on his computer during intermission and calling that match as well. In our section we managed to get a “twinkies!” chant during the aries/williams title match and this guy kept being annoying by yelling " ho hos!",“chocolate flavored” and more corny shit. During the dragon/nigel match he kept talking about how they are going to get berried and start up on ecw or maybe smackdown or just go to raw while the last fucking match was going on. He almost ruined my night its like if jae hoon and eldergod fused together. oh and he kept calling regular powerbombs blue thunderdrivers and when one actually happened he was like “what move was that!” grrrr
I don’t think it’s my imagination clouding my vision inasmuch as Orton (IMO) is a really compelling heel. If people disagree with me and find him boring then that’s fine. If people agree with me and share my opinion then that’s fine too. I’m an Orton fan and I enjoy his boring promo’s.

Reply to HHH/Orton : IIRC, HHH and Orton really don’t like each other all that much. They’ve since learned to respect each other enough to work with one another but at the end of the day they aren’t buddy buddy by any means so I highly doubt HHH has anything to do with Orton as a main eventer. But like I said…IIRC.
As far as Orton as a heel goes, I like it and I agree with Zu that he’s one of the best heels WWE’s produced but casual fans don’t care about him because he isn’t exactly an exciting heel and he isn’t supposed to be.
He’s a methodical, sadistic, creature who strikes when he feels it’s necessary and fans are more used to heels who give them a reason to boo them almost every week which is NOT what Orton is.
Just look at the WM25 buildup. Orton did downright dastardly shit almost every week and the fans ate that shit up like it was free candy. Then look at now when he;s back to being a plotting, slow burning heel and fans don’t know how to react to it.
But thats just my opinion.

The samething keeps happening, he comes out and looks sinister, and battles Cena, HHH, or both, and then the PPV comes out and kills all the build up with a lame main event match. Then the process repeats itself.
Yo, even Edge with Vickie was mad repetitive, but it was atleast very entertaining and hilarious(to me), both Edge and Vickie both were very entertaining and hilarious, especially toward the end.

What plotting? Right now he’s just “Me Want Cena, Orton Viper Heel” who is made to look like an idiot. He didn’t plan anything. With the current way things are, he fell for Batista’s trap and he fell for Cena’s trap. He makes the same false promises and Cena making fun of him at the contract signing didn’t help Orton one bit. Y2J, story-wise, did more plotting by changing the match to whoever loses has to face a gauntlet against the winning team.
why is Alicia fox getting a title shot?
