Simple question:
Acutally i´m looking for a new arcade stick.
I´ve used my Madcatz TE SF4 for quite a while now.
It looks a bit worn out, so i´m thinking about a replacement.
There are still new & boxed Madcatz TE2+ sticks out there.
I use my stick on my PS4, PC and sometimes on my PS3.
Is there anything that speaks AGAINST the TE2+?
Heard there are special drivers needed für use with Windows 10, and they are no more available because of the bankruptcy of Madcatz last year.
Alternative: The Quanba Obsidian or the Hori Real Arcade Pro N.
Did not know about the pcb problem. Interesting.
I´ve seen that the TE2+ also did not have a headphone connector.
This and the PCB thing adds up to a simple “NO”.
Think I will go for the Quanba Obsidian.
Great stick. Easily customizable. If the PCB ever goes kaput you can get an Ez Mod and Brook board. Newegg currently has on sale for $149 shipped and including SfV:AE for free!
Great stick if you get that one that works but there is also a chance that the PCB will fail down the road meaning another $50-$100 based on the Brook board you get for it. Just keep that in mind. Speculation is that Madcatz COULD be releasing a new stick soon too so my guess is that the TE2 prices will drop slightly. FWIW the Panthera has better input latency than a stock TE2 http://shoryuken.com/2017/03/07/new-razer-panthera-firmware-update-for-playstation-4-reduces-input-delay/
Well, I think if the price of the (new) TE2+ is right, it could be an option.
My good old TE has some wear on the case and some scratches on the cover.
Maybe i´ll get a new cover from Focusattack.
If you like a joystick that feels both hollow and cheap get a TE2. Personally they are too flimsy and dont feel of quality. Id mod a OG TE over the TE2 any day of the week.
Decision done!
It will be the Quanba Obsidian. Why? Because of the headphone jack, and the Viewlix Layout.
The Hori looks good, but I dont like the button layout.
My trusty Madcatz TE wil get restored with a new faceplate and so on.
Thanks for your suggestions!
Personally, I am a much bigger fan of the TE-S+ which is basically just an updated TE-S. The TE-2 is solid if you like the way it looks and is easy to mod but I wouldn’t pick it up for one reason, the hinges. I am super wary of anything with hinges that can wear over time like the Razer sticks or the TE-2. To be fair, I haven’t heard of any of them breaking but nonetheless it matters not to me.
I personally say go with the Hori. I just read you don’t like the Namco Noir layout.
Here is the same Hori stick with a Vewlix layout. I personally like the Hori Hayabusa Lever and Kuro buttons way more than the Sanwa offering. Also the thing comes in 4 colors if that’s a thing that matters to you.
True enough. If that is something that is important you ya all the more power. I just think overall Hori’s got the better design. The Obsidian is also heavy af. In anycase, I hope you update this thread of what you think of the Obsidian after you got a chance to play for a while.
I too was thinking between the RAP 4/5 and Quanba Obsidian and now considered the Quanba to be in my list.
Just curious @RetroButton, is your stick similar to this one? I have two of those which I gotten (XB360 version) from PAX back then and rarely used. Unfortunately it looked like it suffered from registering diagonals properly so had had given up on them. May consider UFB to revive them up when recently found out about the Brook.
Yeah that’s what drew me to the Obsidian when it was on sale. The lack of headphone jack was getting inconvenient. Having to run a USB headset to my PS4 was awkward. I own several Hori’s. I like them and have never had issue with them. Even the EX2 I picked up for $40 when I couldn’t fine a Madcatz TE nearly 10 years back served me well.
That stated the Obsidian has a better build quality than the RAP. Yes it’s heavier, but it superior in nearly every way. One of the big issues I’ve had with all RAP’s is the wire compartment. They’re flimsy as hell. I’m constantly reattaching the door its a pain in the ass. The Obsidian’s wire compartment is far more sturdy and I’ve never had that issue. In fact, the only thing I prefer on the RAP is the Start/Options button placement. On the RAP, the button is large and isolated from the rest of buttons. On the Obsidian it’s grouped together with the series of identical sized buttons on the top right of the stick. It’s not easy to hit in a pinch.
The TE2 and TE2+ are nice sticks. I like the design of the case and how it opens so nice on the TE2. The problem I have with them is the stock plexi and the PCB. However, you can get aftermarket plexi tailored to your needs, same for the CP, and the PCB EZ kit Jasen makes is always a nice add on to a Brook making the stick universal without altering the stick a whole lot. Once done this stick would be killer, but yeah, out of the box it does leave things to be desired. The TE2+ is basically the same thing you got but with a touchpad at top. I nreally like the Shadaloo logo, looks menacing to say the least. You can buy the TE2+ for cheap on ebay, specially the ones that aren’t working, add the EZ kit, brook and you’re breaking pretty much even after all is said and done vs buying a high end stick.
