Would you play a balanced/tweaked version of 3S if released?

***That being said, I know there is still an active scene for 3S, but it is also undeniable that it is shrinking, and I use NA/US as my basis, because quite frankly I am more aware of the little hums and haws that happen on my side of the world, because in the end, its what I am involved in, so it has an impact on me directly, I am not ignorant of what goes on in Japan, nor do I lack respect for what happens there, however, it is a different scene then over here, and since a great deal of our community will never actually be a part of the Japanese scene (What, maybe 1% of us can afford to really make that jump on a consistant basis?) I relate my perspective slanted towards the NA scene, please understand my reasoning for this. No disrespect at all intended with the NA angle. I want to be clear on that. (Case in point, my local scene has a decent sized tourney coming up next month, and while it has small showings for MvC2 and HDR, there is no 3S, no CvS2 outside of casuals, I am trying to make CvS2 happen on a small scale at least, and will push for something 3S related too, even if I personally have to run them ALL, keep the dream alive!)

I understand that there is no “need”, but as I agree with what was done with HDR, I actually would support a project of similar fashion for 3S (Again, I highly doubt it would ever actually get a green light from Capcom) updated visuals (IE HD upscaling, etc) and some minor balance tweaks (please keep in mind that I am of the opinion that HDR turned out great) sound compelling to me, I think if it was done right, it would stand the chance of revitalizing the community, bringing in new players and extending the legacy of this great game. We are in a unique position right now, we have YEARS of concrete tourney evidence that would make for the very best playtesting any fighting game has ever had in history, I find the possibilitys for that fact STAGGERING, the potential for earth shatteringly, deep, fundamental balance is to inspiring for me to ignore, we cannot know how good or bad this could turn out without Capcom actually doing it.

I understand the perspective of the preferance of making a new game instead of tweaking an old one, it could break it all to hell, why bother, make something new, I get it, I just disagree with the missed potential. That all said, I can see the other side of the view, but too that I ask, even if they did it, and a portion of the old crew wanted nothing to do with it, would it still be a bad thing if it brought in tons of new players and new competition? (assuming of course that it turned out well, im using HDR as a base point, perhaps with a little more real support from Capcom, they sadly to not support HDR in any real way now, and that saddens me, yet another “missed opportunity”.)***

A remake of this game would be retarded. The graphics are already nice. The music is hands down my favorite out of all fighting games, actually all games period. Game play is perfect, if it was changed just a tad I’d be pissed. I’m sick of these gay ass threads, please stop.

elitism is why most 3s players wouldn’t want to change it nowadays. It took em 10 years to get where they are and having to re-learn it all would leave them at a disadvantage. Un-top 8. 3s is a popularity contest, admit it or not.

oh and yi is a scrub.

That being the case, I wouldn’t want to change 3s either. It’s fine the way it is. Chun’s a bitch, but she isn’t so bad when she’s doing more than standing still and tapping forward and down coughAURcough.

LOL triple post.

i would buff twelve and sean so they don’t suck. That’s it. Those are the only two characters who can’t do 2 shits worth of damage to the rest of cast.
i would personally LOVE a rebalanced and HD version of 3s. This would give a rebirth to the game.

it would be cool if they gave everyone ultras

and you can parry AND jd as well

Random thought today and I don’t know where else to post this, so whatever:

Does anyone know why SAII Chun never got a softban in Japan? I don’t even know what that really means other than if you pick your character in tournaments people will call you a douchebag afterwards, or something. But I know it happened with O.Sagat in ST, who, despite not being the overall best char, was still really solid and had a lame ass character design. Hence the comparison to Chun.

Anyone well versed in both games care to elaborate why Chun never got the same treatment? At least I don’t think she did, looking at the monsterous list of top Chunners compared to the likes of all the other characters. Tbh I have no clue how long it took for people to figure out what was good in this game, so maybe that has something to do with it.

PS No hate. I used to play Chun.

Because Chun wasnt as “easy mode” as good ol O Gat I figure? Rose was a beast in that game, Ryu was pretty buff, heck half the cast was pretty violent IMO, I feared Rose more then Chun TBH in A2. Heck, maybe Sirlins CR.MP of DOOM action made anyone who complained about Chun feel like a retard at that point?

I dont think she was “too dominant” enough to get the “shame” treatment. Shit, Calipower, Sirlin or RSX prolly know the most definitive answers on that one.

When discussing ST balance, everyone seems forgets about Claw…He’s up there with O.Sagat in terms of BS. You get a knockdown and it’s way-too-damaging wall dive 50/50 time!

Anyways, no decent player should have a problem worth voicing regarding “tiers”. No character wins by itself…Yes, some are agreed to be easier to win with than others, but this phenomena will always happen in FGs. It’s not like 3S Chun or O.Sagat give you a two-round advantage from the get go, you can see Chun and O.Sagat losing even (or should I say “especially”?) at high level play, they’re dominant in their games but which FG doesn’t have their dominant characters? Character variety in tournaments is ultimately up to the players to create, where does it say that people that “play to win” picking Chun in 3S wouldn’t pick whatever is top tier in another game?

Rose was a beast in ST?

Why is it hilarious that anyone is hating on Evo? Evo/SRK has been hating on 3s for a while now.

Yeah, I think I read somewhere that Vega was softbanned too actually. I’m not against using bs chars (as much as I hate watching Chun/Chun in top level matches), I just know that in ST there was some sort of getnlemen’s ruleset that was established before the match where both players basically agreed not to use O.Sagat/Vega.

Wondering why that’s not the case for Chun given the dominance that is low forward super. I’m just curious. Softbans don’t even make sense anyways lol.

chun is the best character in 3s.
but shes nowhere near the level to deserve a “soft ban”.

It’s true. Chun’s the best, but a lot of characters have tools to be able to shut her down(or at least beat her). Yun, Ken, Makoto, and all of high-mid have tools to be able to kill her. She has enough flaws in her to not have to be soft-banned, such as being the easiest to juggle right behind Q, no truly reliable wakeup or anti-air, without meter she only has pokes/throws, so on.

And it’s true. Most of SRK, including Evo staff, either don’t care about or despise 3S. Only reason it was at Evo was because the FFA community demanded it. This was back when Evo was an arcade tourn though; things changed since the move to Vegas and 3S has been getting the short end of the stick in many ways.

Those characters are soft-banned in ST because they’re considered simple to use. Vega can win a match by repeating one special move after a knockdown, which is completely ridiculous. Although, to be able to use Sagat effectively you need knowledge of the game, but he’s still relatively basic. Chun is basically all fundamentals, so it’s a lot harder to use her even though she’s considered the best character in the game. And some characters can really exploit her lack of a good anti-air game.

I agree, much as I stated for Chun (IN A2, Pherai, common man, read it again, I never qualify ST, and am referencing A2), she is similar in tier ranking for both games, and in both games she is not buff enough for any kind of ban.

And I do recall a few years ago a great deal of anti parry hate on these forums, it seemed to fade away over time. I think the issue with 3S at Evo now is the entrants, less and less people are playing (at the tourney) and less people are watching (balance facts non withstanding, it gets boring seeing nothing but Chun and Yun over and over). And if the numbers are down, and they have been down year over year, guess what happens?

It gets taken out of the tourney, if the community was supporting it so very much, those numbers would NOT be down, yet they are.

This is why I would like to see a re release of some kind, breathe some new life into this classic, bring it back to the fore again, hate on HDR as much as you guys want (Not in reference to you Aku, just a general statement) but HDR had waaaaaay more applicants then 3S last year, my case in point of how a re release can boost a game to the forefront. (Didnt 3S have more votes in the poll? The reason MvC 2 got in was due to its re release on XBL/PSN bringing in new players, plain and simple.)

Does it need to be a rebalanced 3S? No it doesnt, just an HD upres and some GGPO like netcode would do just fine. My opinions regrading a remake are noted, and dont really need to be restated. Either way, I would like to see something happen from Capcom to revitalize this title.

To be honest I think a rerelease is the only thing that would truely bring 3rd strike back.I’d rather have a modern updated 3rd strike with or without changes with online to start up a community, than a 3rd strike community on it’s last legs only being supported by the lucky few with 3rd strike cabinets to huddle round and a player base of mare than 5 people.

sorry, it just jumped right into talk of A2 and I couldn’t see where it started. I was confused :wonder:

I think 3s has pretty strong support for a 10 year old game. Just not at Evo, which I don’t think is the most significant marker of a games popularity.

I really doubt MvC2 being re-released has anything to do with it being chosen over 3s. Fact is, the majority of the EVO staff don’t play 3s or even like it at that. Parrying is just an annoyance, they are used to a solid solution for situations. I could careless about it being at EVO or trying to revive the scene because I love the scene we have now, sure it’s not super popular but I honestly think the people that really love 3s are the most passionate gamers I’ve ever seen. Every single year there’s always a handful of guys that go to Japan, JUST to get better at the game you guys proclaim dead. I wouldn’t mind an arcade release of 3s on consoles but I def wouldn’t want some gay HDR remix thing happening to it, the music and graphics are fine.

Oh and 3s had more votes then MvC2 and more entries @ EVO last year, the game was already re-released and STILL lost the poll vote to 3s. lol @ that shit. Not only did it lose to 3s it lost to CvS2 aswell… fuck Evo. If I’m going to Vegas it ain’t to play video games.

REAL TALK, GG…
And to be honest the “yun and chun” fest people scream about… They never stop to say the actual players playing with yun and chun and are in the quarters, semi, and finals… Issei, JWong, etc… Those are BEAST players dude. Don’t just say their character and bitch about it. I’m pretty sure if Deshiken, Genki, Momochi, Boss, etc came then things would be different. OR Some AMERICAN players who would try to get to those players’ level instead of crying ken-chun-yun all day then maybe it wouldn’t be a so-called snore-fest… NOOO they’d rather play SF4 and counter-pick and dance around match-ups like noobs!! LOL at that Akuma player at last yr’s Evo switching to GIEF just to counter-pick Rufus(Jwong) in the quarters or semi’s can’t remember and STILL got his ass beat LOOOOL and even more LULZ for the other various homo’s doing the same in alot of the other games. Such fail. But that’s how alot of shit goes down at Evo. So lame… we seriously need an SBO type of event :wasted:

============================================
Now to the OP

  1. Decrease Chun SA2 damage a LITTLE (keep her kara)
  2. Stretch the length of Genei-jin’s bar just a very LITTLE

3S would be perfect
