***That being said, I know there is still an active scene for 3S, but it is also undeniable that it is shrinking, and I use NA/US as my basis, because quite frankly I am more aware of the little hums and haws that happen on my side of the world, because in the end, its what I am involved in, so it has an impact on me directly, I am not ignorant of what goes on in Japan, nor do I lack respect for what happens there, however, it is a different scene then over here, and since a great deal of our community will never actually be a part of the Japanese scene (What, maybe 1% of us can afford to really make that jump on a consistant basis?) I relate my perspective slanted towards the NA scene, please understand my reasoning for this. No disrespect at all intended with the NA angle. I want to be clear on that. (Case in point, my local scene has a decent sized tourney coming up next month, and while it has small showings for MvC2 and HDR, there is no 3S, no CvS2 outside of casuals, I am trying to make CvS2 happen on a small scale at least, and will push for something 3S related too, even if I personally have to run them ALL, keep the dream alive!)
I understand that there is no “need”, but as I agree with what was done with HDR, I actually would support a project of similar fashion for 3S (Again, I highly doubt it would ever actually get a green light from Capcom) updated visuals (IE HD upscaling, etc) and some minor balance tweaks (please keep in mind that I am of the opinion that HDR turned out great) sound compelling to me, I think if it was done right, it would stand the chance of revitalizing the community, bringing in new players and extending the legacy of this great game. We are in a unique position right now, we have YEARS of concrete tourney evidence that would make for the very best playtesting any fighting game has ever had in history, I find the possibilitys for that fact STAGGERING, the potential for earth shatteringly, deep, fundamental balance is to inspiring for me to ignore, we cannot know how good or bad this could turn out without Capcom actually doing it.
I understand the perspective of the preferance of making a new game instead of tweaking an old one, it could break it all to hell, why bother, make something new, I get it, I just disagree with the missed potential. That all said, I can see the other side of the view, but too that I ask, even if they did it, and a portion of the old crew wanted nothing to do with it, would it still be a bad thing if it brought in tons of new players and new competition? (assuming of course that it turned out well, im using HDR as a base point, perhaps with a little more real support from Capcom, they sadly to not support HDR in any real way now, and that saddens me, yet another “missed opportunity”.)***
