Would you pay $40 for a game with 12 characters and 8 stages?

I really like the thread title. It fairly accurately explains what they really are selling to you with this new version.

But I have something else on my mind about UMVC3:

Thing is, Frank West was being made during the development for MVC3, and was supposed to be in the original version. He didn’t make it. Even if he, did there HAD to be a Marvel character that they had matched up against him to balance out the numbers for the sides of the roster. That’s 2 characters they were going to have added to the original, but didn’t. Logic dictates that the Marvel character who is being added is in the lineup of leaked or revealed character roster for UMVC3. That leaves 10 characters that were being worked on specifically for UMVC3, right?

Well, let’s look at Shuma and Jill. They supposedly needed more work done. Including time after gold and until release, that was just shy of 3 months. Lets take away 3 weeks for DLC approval, though. So 10 weeks. For clarities sake, I’m trying to establish about how long it takes to make a character. 10 weeks seems pretty short considering all the work that needs to be done for 2 characters including balancing, but to make it even more interesting than that. Lets take that down to 8 weeks. 8 weeks for 5 pairs of characters is 40 weeks. That’s just over 9 months. Hmm well that all seems good: 9 months from February is November! But wait a minute, because you still have about 1 month minimum of the game going Gold and printing. So… October? But that’s only 8 months from release!

The point of this post is to simply state this: You expect me to believe Capcom not only made 10 characers in 8 months, but also rebalanced EVERYTHING about the old game, improved online mode, added spectator mode, a storyline, AND is going to have multiple demos of the game for gaming shows/conventions? Especially after it took them 9 months to do roughly 9 1/2 characters for SSFIV (Deejay and T. Hawk had assets already)? Face it guys: Capcom has been working on this shit from before MVC3 even hit the shelves, and possibly from before it even went gold. Maybe it was all planned to be released as DLC, but the prospect of getting more people’s money through a new game release with balancing and new modes basically means that they can technically charge you for a bunch of shit that could have very well been included in just 1 iteration of the game (such as spectator mode and a more elaborate story mode, the story mode which they claimed to have last time). If that doesn’t qualify as releasing an unfinished game so they can take more of your money later with a new version, then I don’t even fucking know what to call this complete bullshit.

Actually, “complete bullshit” describes it well enough, so I’ll just go with that.

That’s all on top of making the game actually look worse visually (new hud sucks, character portraits are ass, win pictures as just as bad, artwork is just photoshopped-over 3D models of the characters and are lazy, new X-Factor glow looks more retarded than before) to make it more distinct from MVC2 as they move further away from it in engine similarity.

Then they didn’t even add Megaman.

WHAT.

THE.

FUCK?

People without jobs whining about how they can’t afford Ultimate MvC3.

Why does this thread exist?

mods…?

you’re trying way too hard… give it a rest . you got called out and were proven wrong . keep your chin up and kick rocks.

You’re a keyboard gangster because you would not carry on and talk like that face to face, and like getting your little e-rocks off trying to sound tough on the SRK forum. This site and forum were created to discuss, make players and the games better, and to interact in a positive way, but people like you make it a waste of time. don’t bother responding, I said my peace, I’m done.

Handled. Use the Report button: we see it and handle it.

This thread is lame as fuck and I’m confused why it was created. That being said, if you don’t want it to keep going, quit posting in it.

lol…its not about caring for at least “60 percent” of the new characters dumbasses. Its about a new iteration of a game with a completely different approach to the original game. Everything’s changed. New tiers. New mechanics. More important than the new characters and new stages.

I’ve realized that casual gamers focus on the cosmetic aspect of Umvc3 more than anything which equates to them feeling somehow cheated by what capcom is doing. Of course you dont see the relevance of Hulk getting 3 points of super armor or Trish having a speed increase on her traps. Maybe this will cut down on you shitty rage quitters because its too many of yall anyways.

I don’t know how many times this needs to be shot down. My ability to pay them $40 has no bearing on the discussion about this release.

“Suck it up” isn’t really any form of argument or logical presentation. In fact, I feel compelled to point out that arguments like “I can afford $40” aren’t in your best interest - it sends the message that you’d have paid them more if they wanted. It’s also a somewhat dumb thing to say. It’s a fair assessment that everyone on the forum can afford to spend $40 without going into bankruptcy. Like I’ve said before, I can afford to set $40 on fire without it impacting me in the least - that doesn’t make it a good idea or something I’m interested in doing.

This thread exists because this release is proving to be quite controversial to a large group of the community. Instead of saying “I can afford $40,” tell me why you’re ok with the releasing the first game in a state that justifies you putting money into them fixing it.

I’d be totally down with this release if they’d simply offer improved netcode as a patch on vanilla. If it’s so broken and reviled that they think that’s a feature of this release, perhaps it’s fair that they’d make it right for the content I already paid for.

Your response?

This release isn’t any more controversial than any other fighting game Capcom has ever made. And $40 is a huge deal in this day and age. People really are just complaining over nothing. What do they want Capcom to do, sell the game for $20?

I’ll shoot this down.

Not really possible. Go research patches for XBLA and PSN. You generally waste people’s time by touting unrealistic proposals. Sorry. =\

I know they cost money and can only be a certain size if that’s what you’re referring to.

They should spend the money.

Or explain to me how the patch would be of such magnitude that it’s not feasible.

However, given their track-record of lying directly to us about this game, they’re put in a position where I’m going to need to see a little proof before I believe them.

Edit: And the road works both ways. Assuming you’re talking about size, how do you know it would be so big? That same logic applies to it either way. We don’t know how big the patch would need to be. Certainly they could fix the booting to root menus and perhaps streamline matchmaking a bit.

Releasing a new release is not making it right. I already gave them $60 and I’d appreciate them delivering a fix to something I bought. Fixing a problem is something you do in a patch, not a new release. It’s just the way the world works these days. I’m not against paying them for new content, I’m against them doing literally nothing to fix the game I already bought.

Its waaaay too much content to offer in a 15-20 dollar DLC update.

Your response?

I already said that you refute none of my points, and then claim that I am an E-gangster The alternative is much more expensive and a bigger strain on everybodies wallets… The insult may have been uncalled for, and I am sorry for that. I was irritated at the large sum of people who complain that UmvC3 is a waste of money, and how Capcom is looking for money, and how characters are DLC cuz they greedy, when they have, 100%, absolutely, no proof of any of they’re claims.

Like I clearly said above, I’m not talking about the whole Ultimate release. I’m talking about them trying to make the netcode in vanilla at least a little more passable. I think it’s a fair request.

Really? You’re going to make a joke about BB notation on a MvC 3 thread? Really?

I never said I was hating. I’m just playing devil’s advocate, and pointing out the obvious in doing so. Seems a lot of people are willing to die for UMvC 3 when Capcom clearly just didn’t feel like adding features that are the norm in other fighting games. Tekken 6 had all these “features” as well. Want to make a stab at that game too?

And great job for pointing out that online play is in fact a factor. Now, when it becomes relevant to the original intention of the post, perhaps somebody else out there will reply to it. Until then, keep up the good work on failing reading comprehension.

Well you’re asking for too much. When its good its good, when its bad its bad.

But if the bulk of your complaint centers around the netcode in a fighting game when you can use the same forum you’re on complaining to find real people to play offline…

Well…lets just say you arent winning.

I guess the fact that they’re working on multiple titles at the same time does make sense, though it’s still kind of odd seeing as how it wasn’t Capcom’s first try at a fighting game this gen. I’ll still probably end up getting UMvC 3 anyway though.

PSN and XBL cost money to put up patches now why companies sell other to make money to cover there losses.

Capcom already confirmed 6 of the twelve were set up as DLC but tsunami and PSN outage delayed them.

They can improve the netcode and matchmaking a bit, but that’s about it. Patching a brand new netcode - which at least officially is what Ultimate is getting - is unrealistic.

Even if they patch it, it’ll just stay shitty. They can ease things a bit - which I recall they did with the matchmaking - but unless they make a brand new game it won’t change much if what’s already there sucks to begin with.

I addressed that in another post. My life is such that I can’t play with other people in person right now. But I shouldn’t have to defend the way I choose to play the game at all. I mean, come on, dude, the netplay is just poorly poorly designed. It should have been better in the first place. They set their own standard in SF4 and it’s reasonable to assume their following games would be up to this standard. Especially since it’s a product from the very same company.

This is how we should discuss this stuff. Like we’re both people with dignity and self-respect.

I admit I’m guilty of being a shit in this very thread, but we all know it’s not acting right and should aim to be better.
