I will not buy Umvc3, capcom is making this pathetic update since idiots of course buy it, really 40$ for a game like that? so we paid the original game for what? for nothing and capcom has the balls of blaming the japan earthquake for this release? bullshit. funny, with all the amazing games that are coming out in the months of Umvc3 do you think i am going to waste my money on it? of course in about 10 months another version of mvc3 will be announced and of course everyone will be going nuts just to find out that characters like megaman are not in the game but of course they will buy it again
New chars, new stages, BETTER NETCODE, more features, gameplay reBALANCE, glitches fixed, improved system.
YES PLZ
You people…
Nothing comes for free in this world. Be happy you even got MVC3, and that it’s even getting an update. If you love the game, be happy, you’re getting more of it. I support this entirely. All the new characters, the new stages, improved everything. Why the hell would it NOT be worth 40? And I don’t have to wait over a year to get the update to the original? YES PLEASE.
Capcom is not raping your wallet. Also if you can’t afford a measly 40 dollars for a huge update to your favorite game, you might want to rethink your priorities.
Those 40 bucks are yours to spend as you see fit, and if you feel the content is not enough, do whatever.
But when you call 12 characters, changes in the existing roster and finetuning of mechanics just a ‘megapatch’, and think ‘it’s the same game’, I think you have a weird idea of what makes a fighting game worth it’s money.
After 10 years, people still haven’t learned. Either way, buy what is worth the money to you. Umvc3 fixed a lot of my issues with the game and added characters I’m looking forward to playing. Considering I throw away more money on trash every week than Umvc3 costs, yes its worth the money to me.
Wasnt the original SSF2 on SNES like 40 bucks for the same exact thing? 12 characters and 8 stages?
Dont see what the issue is 40 bucks is cheaper than the DLC charges per character and per stage.
You guys have never bought an expansion pack for a game before?
When other companies release free updates so you don’t need a second game (midway) or if they make a second game and give it to you as a free download (blazblu) I think this is pretty dang lame. But 40 dollars is not bad, but I don’t think the money is the problem here.
For me it’s still totally worth it. The Jill/Shuma being on the disc thing isn’t exactly fair since they weren’t finished so it doesn’t really mean they were ‘there’. $10 for shadow battles wasn’t really a big deal for me…it’s 10 bucks, i’ve spent that on things far dumber.
But to me what it totally boils down to is that for the money I spend on that game, I will get back FAAAAR more in enjoyment. I’ve put in 300+ hours in JUST training mode alone, so for the money that I’ve spent ($60 new US) it’s a drop in the bucket for the months and months I get out of it.
Add in the fact that if there were still local arcades around here…I’ve spent FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR more money to play a game that never changed, never got anything extra to it, and STILL bought the home version when it came out. UMvC3…I’m 100% there.
To each his own…but we all know we’re going to buy it anyway, so…

Capcom didn’t make a Ultimate MVC2 at all maybe I was just (falsely) hoping that Capcom’s newer trend of rereleasing games 4 times wouldn’t stain the MVC series.
I realized that Capcom would probably make a remake of MVC3 a while ago ,and had I truly enjoyed MVC3 I would get it regardless (If it is a truly great game $40 is a good deal)
That being said if I was going to get it I would still feel ripped off that they could not do basic stuff that all fighting games (MK BB) now do such as balance patches, spectator mode, and a decent online mode (lolhey kicked to the menu for the 90239 time today) with their first game.
Just because Capcom has become known for rereleases does NOT make it okay that they do it.
I’m am super curious to know how much time (offline and online seperately), that’s something that always interests me. Do you mind telling us? As I said above, I’ve put in 300+ hours in just training mode alone during my spare time. Online I’ve only knocked up 65 hours so far (and climbing fairly rapidly).

i cant even bring myself to trade in mvc3 now, knowing that that price will plummet (it already has but not where i work yet) damn the addiction and lack of good ps3 games out
So the OP would rather have UMVC3 be released somewhere in the middle of next year so we head into EVO with a month worth of technology…
fuck that…
I really like the fact that we will head into EVO12 with 8 months worth of experience in the game, and this release date also means that all tournaments in the season will have the game as well, and maybe since we already have a new game, the season could start at the end of the year with SB.
As a competitor I’m pleased.
People need to stop complaining about the FGC. This shit’s been going on since the days of SF2. It’s nothing new. If you don’t like it, leave the fighting game community, please.
But if the OG’s can get their asses through
6 versions of Street Fighter 2
2 versions each of Alpha 2, Alpha 3, and Third Strike
a thousand versions of XSF attempting to fix random infinites.
Shortcut sequels (VH/VS 2, A2Gold, A3Saikyo/Max/etc, Marvel 2)
poor rebalances (CvS2EO, MSHvSF, 3S-DC version)
Generally bad games (NG, CvS, Alpha 1)
and games that were rushed the fuck out (CFE, CvS)
UMvC3 isn’t anything to write home about. It’s just Capcom doing their job.
Video games are mad cheap. You play MvC3 for a hundred hours, that’s only $.60 per hour. 200 hours, then only $.30 per hour. I’m sure tons of people have played much more than 200 hours of MvC3 already as well. I think it’s silly to try and quantify the value of video games in anything except for hours played. Sure, if you look at other factors (LOL OMG $60 FOR 2 CDS??? RIPOFF) then it sounds really expensive, but when it comes down to it the more you play a game, the cheaper it becomes, and we’ll still be playing MvC3 until UMvC3 comes out anyway. And if you look at it this way, sure, for other games you’ll be able to play through the single player again a second or third time, but I think you’ll be hard-pressed to play for close to the number of hours that a game like MvC3 gives.
Then when Ultimate comes out, we’ll sink more time into that, making it a worthwhile purchase. I’m not sure how anyone could complain about the cost of video games when the cost per hour is so cheap for the amount of fun that they give.
I don’t think we should be complaining about the costs of video games and these updates, unless we’re buying these games for $130 and then only playing them for like 10 hours, which isn’t what is happening at all.
For people who bought MvC3 and now have to buy UMvC3, the $60 you paid was for all of the hours that you got to play the game before UMvC3 comes out. People only paying $40 for Ultimate won’t ever be able to have those hours that you have and will enjoy. When you consider how many hours that is, does it really seem not worth it?
Would you pay $40 for people who keep making these threads to stfu?
Why yes! As a matter of fact I would!
How many of these are opened already? Go comment on Keits’ article on the front page instead.
When I buy a sequel to any game I hope for more of the same only better. This is that, only for $40.
And I’m not paying 40$ for 12 characters and 8 stages. I’m paying 40$ for 50 characters, a number of stages and an overall improved game.
I’m only upset with the timing of the announcement.
Granted sdcc was the best place for it, it just sucks that it’s right before evo for more hardcore players. It’s kinda like it doesn’t matter what happens with this version since ultimate is a drastic change.
If you are upset about 40 bucks, get over yourselves. Even at 2 bucks a character and 2 bucks a stage you wouldn’t get half the changes you are getting with umvc3.
In most cases capcom tries to rip people of. This is a rare occasion that this is not the case.
When was the last time youve played Marvel 3 online? I haven’t had trouble finding a ranked or player match since May. And in my experience MK9 was even harder to find a match for, and even laggier once you did.
100+ dollars on one game in one year which I play less than SSF4/AE, will play less than SF3 OE, and probably only play as much as Skullgirls and KOF13? Hell yeah, IT’S MAHVEL BABY
