Something along the lines of this.
Actually Spider-Dan’s argument was concrete and has everything to do with the topic at hand. Protip: if you’re losing an argument, it’s better to man up than continue posting drivel.
Dr. B’s powers depend on the game he’s in, but he’s always broken. Always.
Ryu and Alex doesn’t had an airdash but in TvC they do
gameplay > storyline
do you even like x-men?
Yea there’s also getting 0-100% combos for playing recklessly, get out of jail free bursts, and chip avoidance. There’s a lot of dumb mechanics in TvC that should not be in the next Marvel game.
Wow fail post. Talk about falling flat on your face.
i agree with funkyp tvc is its own game. some characters in tvc need to make it to marvel 3 though. zero being one of them but he needs to be revised. zeros too slow in tvc also x should be in as he could air dash with his armor. seeing regular mega man turn into hyper x was always saddening. on the other hand capcom needs to seriously look at their rosters think of how the game is played and pick the characters that suit the style of play as oppose to forty five characters with sub par play in mvc2. hell mega man alone has 18 people that could go in if you sit down and think about it.
ok then explain why Ryu being able to throw bigass fireballs has anything to do with airdashing? Ironman and Morrigan can fucking fly, should Ryu too? I mean it would make no sense for him to be able to, but then it would be balanced because he could fight Magneto right?
Giving everyone the same stuff is not going to balance a game, characters are gonna be able to utilize certain tools better than others and it in itself could break the game.
Nah, if everyone had an air dash I wouldn’t trip. However I don’t think every character should get an 8-way, fullscreen airdash either. But if everyone could at least airdash straight forward I don’t see the problem. It is a new game after all, and it could help characters like Zangief and Juggernaut get in on zone/keepaway characters.
But save the 8 way airdashes for the Magnetos and Storms…
IMO, everyone should have short hop. That seems like a better solution than air dashing. And if it has to be air dashing, forward only. Leave 8-way, flying, and double/triple jumps to their respective characters. I agree, though, if the lower tiered characters had better mobility that would instantly make them at least a little better.
Some free advice: stop being stupid, especially on SRK. Someone significantly less nice than me will verbally tear you to ribbons if you persist on this path.
Dr. B was asked to be in MvC3 but he’s the brokenness that breaks brokenness.
You made the two relevant when you said that characters less likely to fly should not. Now you’re flipping the whole thing on its head. The point is, if Ryu can go from energy balls to kamahamaha waves, and sakura can shoot fireballs the size of her body with one hand when she could barely get a blast like that with two in every other game, then there’s no reason why an average joe like Chris or Frank can’t learn to dash in the air.
Yeah, you people gotta wake up, giving everyone the same mobility options is fine. It doesn’t have to be air dashes, but giving everyone air dashes regardless of what damn game they came from is fine.
It works in Arcana Heart because everyone still plays vastly different from one another even when they can get around the screen the same way. Of course some (ok, all of you) are you going to ignore this because of the game’s content and what not, but the bottom line is that Arcana Heart is an incredibly fun, fast, crazy fucking game and everyone having the same options for moving around is a huge reason for it.
Same goes for Melty Blood and TvC. Shit, look at Guilty Gear.
Don’t be stupid guys.
NO NO NO and NO. once magneto is broken it will be a good game.
8 way air dashes are not necessary for all characters, but any character who had it before cough Dhalsim. should keep it. Not everyone needs an 8 way air dash. People should get different varying tools just as awesome to compete however.
First off this is obv, just IMHO.
While I agree with you 100% that 1.) Arcana Heart is an incredibly fun, fast, and crazy fucking game and 2.) that is in large part due to every character having the same mobility options, I still don’t think that it would be in the best interest of the game.
To me and to many others, the thrill and satisfaction behind the game is that you can play characters that are so vastly different, that you’re not even playing the same game as your opponent. Think of MSP versus Strider/Doom-- they are both a product of the same game engine, but have entirely different playstyles and conditions for victory. The same can be said for any game, but it is especially apparent in MvC2-- MSP and S/D are just completely different animals.
AH took that route towards balance, GG instead opted to give everyone the same defensive/combo breaking options, and MvC2 just plain gave a lot of tools to the top and middle echelon characters.
I think the developers should go with the natural progression of the game-- keep god tier where it is with very few to no nerfs, and use that as the benchmark for what needs to be done to the rest of the cast.
Personally I’m not a fan of having everyone being able to air dash. I know it’s a balancing issue, but they can balance it in other ways with combos and supers.
In which pre-Marvel games could Chun-Li airdash, again?
In MvC1 Chun-li’s air dash is most her game, and suited her well. she is also able to jump 3 times. Some characters could use this kind of ability but others don’t need it. Wolverine can Head stomp(in MvC1 at least), Strider can Teleport, Venom can grab to web and combo off it easily, Hulk has super armor and is meant to play defensive.
Most everyone had their good sides, Giving them all an air dash would be lame. I didn’t like it in TvC either.
I understand what you’re talking about, but that lies within character diversity and less with giving everyone the same options.
Characters like Fiona and Elsa in Arcana play vastly different from one another. As do Hisui and Kouma in Melty Blood, or Yatterman-2 and Frank West in TvC.
See the thing is having the same options for mobility is the foundation to work on. Then you can sit down and have all the character variety in the world to work with. If you look at all the new characters in MvC2 you’ll see how differently they play from one another, Tron, Ruby, Jill, Sonson, Amingo, there’s an amazing amount of different gameplay mechanics for each of them. The only problem is that they only have the basic foundation for making damage attributed to them while other characters have the same plus better options for mobility. There in lies the problem. It’s like giving a character in SF a super jump is fine because they all have access to the same portion of the screen, it’s a ground based game to begin with. If you do the same to a game that occupies two plus screens vertically and more horizontally, well clearly you’re going to have problems. The notion of having ‘footsies’ in the air becomes a joke because one character can just fly away and negate said situation all together.
Honestly, I see what you’re saying, but in that sense you’d be better off getting rid of ‘god’ tier or the ability to air dash all together. They’re more the cause of a problem (and the problem period) then the actual solution to figure out a workaround for.
Universal f/b air dash…I wouldn’t be opposed to it, but I would like to see a more creative solution to Marvel mobility just to keep things in the spirit of MvC2 and its unique not-everyone-is-created-equal deal (Except this time with fairer shakes to the rest of the cast).
Characters like Juggernaut air dashing would be silly and there’s “believable” ways to aid his ability to get in without an air dash, anyway. He’s got armor on his side, he’s got Head Crush on his side, if you think that’s not enough you could always add more armor to his existing moves or give him new meter-based moves to circumvent projectile zoning. For characters like Ryu, I would personally like to explore more creative options like giving him a Ryu-only Roman Cancel or something to drop his fireball recovery and enter freefall, move around, whatever, and give him supers to better break through projectiles or set up juggle opportunities.
If it were me, I’d make it mostly a question of having a reasonable way to build meter quickly if your character is likely to be kept out, pinned down, whatever, and then having an effective meter-based tool to invincibility/autoguard/armor through various patterns and traps to get where your character needs to go, or to catch somebody you can’t quite reach for that brief but critical seizure of momentum. The meter management in Marvel was a big part of its unique flavor, and I’d like to see that kept on.
