Would you be opposed to every character getting an air dash?

Take out air dashes; put in hops, hyper hops, super jumps, and jumps. Take out push block and put in Counter Blowbacks. Put in rolls and sideteps. Make if everyone’s “beloved” 4 buttons system and make everyone’s st.hp be “the” button. Best “crossover” game ever

this thread was doomed to be derailed once non air dash related buffs got into the conversation, the topic has too much depth to slide into another thread and should have had its own thread. At least there is a more appropriate thread now, so this one can stay air dash or at least movement based.

I see what you’re trying to do. :wonder:

I’ve said this in other treads: If the game actually focused on special moves and gave them purposes outside of combos–then you won’t have to give everyone air dashes. There is no reason why big guys should not have good armor, moves that allow them to nullify or go through projectiles and dish out ignorant damage. I also never understood why Ryu’s (and a lot of characters in his mold) fireball sucks. I wouldn’t mind if Magneto and Storm played the same as long as they took more damage.

I don’t see how Capcom can get it wrong this time. Yes it is a new game, but they have a rough draft to work with and a community full of knowledge.

yes i would be opposed

The problem is that launcher is going to be poor risk/reward no matter how you slice it (provided that there are Mag/Storm/IM-type characters that will essentially kill you off of a jumpin); it’s not worth losing a character for ~40% launch into aircombo, particularly since a) blocked anti-air normal is still disadvantage for Gief and b) if you guess wrong, your next character has to fight off a guard break. The better solution (not to say that these couldn’t work in concert) is to give Gief a solid AA option (e.g. instant jump lariat) that fixes the “fall on his head” strategy and allows you to safely reset the initiative (you land first) and engage on your terms.

You could also combine both things and (for instance) make air KK lariat have a mini-launcher effect, which leads to option tree while they’re falling (re-lariat/re-launch/FAB/air SPD).

I agree that we don’t know if universal air dash (and double jump!) would be necessary for Mvc3 since we know nothing about the engine. However, based on previous history, the most common element to superiority in the Marvel games is excessive mobility. Thus, assuming MvC3’s general framework is similar to that of its predecessors, having more universal mobility options would probably be a safe bet. Hence, universal air dash and/or double jump.

Spider-Dan re: Wii sales

Publishers themselves have complained about the difficulty of selling “core” titles to the Wii audience. And the fighting genre is extra niche, so its odds were never that great. Remember that TvC did roughly what BlazBlue (which is considered a success) did in Japan for both PS3 and 360 combined, so it’s really a matter of the huge install base not translating into appreciably greater sales.

Okay so trying to bridge the gap between mvc2 and MVC3 concerning movement
lets take a look at the confirmed six and the silhouttes some of which as dead obvious under MVC2 movement standards

Ryu - no air dash/ no extra jump/ no flight
Morrigan - Air dash/ no extra jump/ no flight
Chris - No storyline reason to have any
Hulk -no air dash/ no extra jump/ no flight
Wolverine - no air dash/ no extra jump/ no flight
Iron man - air dash/ no extra jump/ flight

Movement option so far
Marvel 2 - Capcom 1

kotaku speculation on SRK

without getting into too much speculation and off the point of this thread, capcom’s side seems more close range and outnumbered in flight characters so far, again.

Say what you will, but it always annoyed me that Morrigan is usually shown flying in artwork and cut-scenes but never in game.

whats funny is that i originally had the count as 2 to 2 and had to change it because i always forget morrigan can’t fly. she flying on the teaser video, shes flying on my stick art, she has wings, why she doesn’t fly in game really makes no sense.

^ Glad there are some people that agree with me. I’ve said this hundreds of times on these boards and everywhere else.

Why does Mags, Storm, Sent have flight and 8-way dash when Morg doesn’t? Hell even BH has a air dash and Cyc has double jump.

I just don’t know what they were thinking with that design choice.

Yea I think people should have something to stand themselves out. Morrigan definitely should get some kind of air dash or flight since it seemed to fit her. I also want chun’s MVC1 air super back since it just seemed awesome as hell and help her get across the screen pretty fast.

I could definitely seeing a roll work with someone like Chris Redfield since in the newer RE games they had a context sensitive dodge roll (though Jill had it first in RE3). But they should make it like KOF and hopefully not as abusive as CVS2.

I just now realized you’re right, it really doesn’t make sense for her to not have Flight. All so it would make sense to give Hulk some form of better movement in the air, he’s been known to jump massive distances, use the force from his claps to elevate himself more, and he’s never actually been slow in the first place.

Really trying to think of something they could do to give Chris extra mobility.

I think a dodge roll for Chris works or he can play like keep away and pop people with a hydra from across the screen and does boulder punches to send them flying back to the other side.

Thinking about it Chris could probably have a tag team melee attack with another RE person, sort of how you can do a tag team melee attack in RE5.

Morrigan has an air dash in MvC1/MvC2. It just doesn’t go straight forward automatically, but dives downwards in an arc. She can also steer it up and down somewhat. This is actually different to her Dark Stalker form, where she had a ground-to-air dash with the same steering properties (which she has back in TvC), but no air dash. It doesn’t make sense that she can’t fly, especially since they gave Bison and Dhalsim the ability to fly (and Sim can air dash!). Perhaps it’s an oversight?

I think the point is that a lot of “hardcore” fans don’t have a Wii, which has been true in a lot of scenes I’ve been to. Out of everyone in our local scene (about 20 or so regulars), there’s only 2 of us that have a Wii (and thus, TvC). Same thing with other places I’ve been to; one area I travel to regularly JUST added TvC to their lineup, but they depend on me and the two other people in their scene that have a Wii to bring it, and even then, few people play because again, barely anybody has a Wii, so why play? The fact of the matter is that the Wii just isn’t a system that a lot of tournament players have. This seems to be a rare case in which casual players are more likely to own the setup needed than “hardcore” players.
