I played it… I had it… I don’t know what it was like when it came out… but I played it after I had access to games like Zelda Link to the Past.
I don’t know if it’s just me, but I also didn’t like that Viewtiful Joe game that came out on DS and I’m a HUGE VJ fan. I can probably recite every line from the first game’s script. I forgot what the name of the DS one was though. I basically just gave it away to someone at school.
Another bad game was DBZ Budokai 1…I forgive them though because they definitely got the system right with Budokai 3. Budokai 1 was nowhere near as bad as Ultimate Battle 22 though. Looks like somebody made that game in paint.
The hate for ET is way overrated. It’s not that bad of a game. It’s just famous for being overproduced at the time of the video game crash. That’s it.
Dark Souls would be the worst game I ever played. It’s actually probably tied with Dragon Ball Z Super Legendary Warriors for the gameboy color, but at least that is an old game compared to Dark Souls.
I played it when it first came out.
Yes it is.
That putrid pile of AIDS infected monkey crap was blasphemy, and offended the gods, worshipers, and servants of all things electronic and silicon almost equally.
It made Raiders of The Lost Ark look like a cogently thought out, cohesive pile of code… if not an actual game.
EDIT: Budokan was ST compared to E.T.
Whoa, whoa, whoa!
Stop the hate right there, sir. I don’t think you understand how awesome the game was.
You can’t help but love the total original sound track the game had.

And Trunk’s theme song in Ultimate 22, I don’t understand why that was the only actual ‘song’ in the game.
All the other songs were random… crap…
Trunk’s theme was like a real song, lol.
Budokai 3 was ass, fyi.
Fuck you and your whole family with a rusty bandsaw.
Yeah, I’ll grant that sometimes his info is a little inaccurate, but none of your other complaints are valid.
The point of his character is to channel the same frustrations that he and his audience had when playing those games for the first time, especially as kids.
I have no doubt that most people who played Superman 64 never got past the first level.
Same thing with Dick Tracy and a bunch of other games where he got “stuck”. He even touches on this point a little bit with his Dick Tracy review.
Back in the NES days, we didn’t have internet, walkthroughs, strategy guides or any of that shit to help us beat games. You rented a game on Friday night at the video store that looked interesting, sometimes with your hard-earned allowance, and the game you bought was supposed to be your weekend.
As a kid with limited money and limited free time outside of school, when the game you chose turned out to be a piece of shit or so incredibly obtuse/hard that you can’t even manage to get past the first level in a weekend, then it was a really big deal.
On-topic, this thread is pretty garbage. Most of you probably haven’t played more than 10 games in your life. I mean Earthbound? Seriously? Just because you were too stupid to know how to cure the mushroom status?
I mean I hate SF4 as much as anybody, but the worst game you’ve ever played?
Try playing some random shit on there, and you’ll see just how BAD most games in the NES era really were. We remember all the good ones with rose-colored glasses, but for every Contra, Mega Man 2, or Mario 3, there were like 100 NES games that were total fucking wastes of plastic.
Try playing through AD&D: Heroes of the Lance before you start bitching about Marvel 3 or SF4.
While I have played some bad games, I would never, ever wish to forget them as they, in all of their foibles and failings are a part of me. Much like how some people have friends and acquaintances, possibly from a rough background, I look upon these imperfect games with a tender nostaligia, touched by regret and sadness of wasted potential.
The only exceptionally bad thing about ET was its lack of conveyance. That’s a problem with A LOT of games prior to the 16-bit era due to hardware limitations. The only thing that really could have been improved is having some screen’s pit locations to have been a little more towards the center, as you could accidentally fall in during a screen transition if you’re not paying attention, which was an inconvenience, but could be avoided by simply not charging around during a transition…
Not saying that it’s a good game by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s a far cry from “worst game ever”, especially considering there’s a good several dozen WORSE games on the same system alone. The reality is simply that they painted themselves into a corner, spent way too much money producing it, figured they’d have the chance to recoup by manufacturing a ton, and the game just wasn’t the caliber of game to actually sell that well, especially in the climate the game came out in. I mean, it WAS a million copy seller. There are games today that sell half that and still considered a success, but more because they didn’t overbudget like crazy AND produce way more copies than they should have. The game’s biggest faults actually end up having very little to do with the quality of the game and much more in the management of production.
like I said because you didnt know how to play it
I guess… But whatever, that game as a whole is irrelevant.
If it’s a game that bad enough to not even want to “learn how to play”… it’s a bad game.
Weed makes every video game so good.
Superman 64 for game of the year, every year.
Seriously SFIV MVC3, Earthbound, Final Fantasy X-2? [details=Spoiler]

Dafuq is wrong witchall?[/details] The worse games i’ve played is battle toads for genesis that damn hover bike stage haunts me, Scooby Doo Mystery companies should be fined for playing off the stupidity of children. But one that kills me was Ren and Stimpy: Space Cadet Adventures for GB “you eediot” has never made me shudder more to this day.
99% of adventure games on atari 2600 you had no idea wtf to do
What I said… over your head.

No but seriously, the hell is up with some of the games people are placing in this thread?
No More Heroes: It might be repetetive, but it’s got great gameplay as well as a fantastic personality and sense of humor.
Halo 3: Had a very fun single player campaign, an incredible amount of features as well as replay value and a damn fun multiplayer that has highly influential towards online console shooters today.
Earthbound: We you guys seriously that traumatized by the final boss. Seriously why is this on the list!?
And now Dark Souls… Yes it’s hard as fuck, but it’s also a really, really damn good game. It is a game that breaks the mold both from a creative standpoint and a gameplay standpoint, creating an experience that is unique unto itself (and it’s spiritual predecessor Demons souls).
And last but certainly not least, the boss music, it’s extremely different from what you’d expect out of a boss fight in a fantasy game. And holy crap it’s good.

Spoiler Warning: Final Boss Music

Good music helps a game experience but does not excuse a game that has horrible gameplay. Just throwing that out there.
I agree with most of what you said about AVGN, though one thing that comes to mind is his “review” of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. He spends five or so minutes hyping up how incredibly bad the game is, then plays it for about a minute before giving up. I mean, it’s a bad game and there’s not a whole lot more to do than what he showed off, but the pre-gameplay portion created the feeling of a bad videogame blue balls when we actually got to see it. I will concede that he can be entertaining, just that his frustrations can get overdone too.
I’m still confused about the Earthbound complaint as well.
He redid the Jekyll and mr hyde review iirc.
