As of Tekken Tag2, Angel and Dr.B are suffering QUITE a bit.
To speak on Angel’s behalf, she probably considered one of the worst characters in the game, as well as the worse Mishima. Her overall movement is sluggish and movement just happens to be mandatory if you are a good Mishima player. If the player is not able to consistently conduct EWGF (or EWHF if you’re a Jin player), utilize the crouch dash mix ups in themselves, and move around appropriately, you are essentially playing a very low tier character because they don’t really have any gimmicks in their move set outside of those fundamentals. Angel’s EWGF and her crouch dash 3 are essentially her most useful moves. Angel’s crouch dash 3 will hit back rolling opponents and it possesses very good range. Twin Pistons and SS2 are also a part of her move set as optional tag bufferable launchers but none of them are safe, sans EWGF. Angel lacks any safe mid punishes (actually she doesn’t have any really noteworthy low OR mids), and her f3 stance is nearly useless. Angel just seems like a “all or nothing” character, that which isn’t really supported very well in this scenario due to the nature of the game. I think I agree with you on the whole there. TTT2 Angel and B are pretty bad, but I think B is quite a bit worse than Angel. Some would argue that, others like JDCR consider Boskonovich to be in his own tier because he’s that bad.
I’m no Tekken pro to really give my accurate judgement, just going by what others have said.
To be fair to 12, I would happily exchange 5 or 6 shotoid characters in SF4 (Oni, Evil Ryu, Akuma, Ken, Sakura, Sagat) for having him there. Walking through proyectiles would be nuts, hovering in the air would be sweet and imagine having his standing RK as the focus attack…
One of the problems is that parrying made some essential 12 features unnecessary and without them he’s merely mediocre. Still, I rather see attempts at creating truly new characters rather than this “look at Oni OMG he looks so cool this is the best FG ever” shit we have been receiving as of late.
I play 12 a lot. I’d say he’s my main, but I dabble in plenty of other characters. Something about the air dashes, the walk that makes him go under stuff, and the shenanigans he is capable of make him my favorite to play. Absolutely awful character though. VS Yun/Urien/Elena/sometimes Alex might as well be an intsta-loss for me. You learn to work with what tools you have and make them as annoying as possible. I like the challenge of playing shitty 12 because it keeps me from getting stuck on the same easy patterns. I don’t know how people can get hit with Aegis unblockables and Genei Jin juggles for the millionth time and still be cool with it, but getting zoned by 12 is the worst thing. Pardon my ignorance.
There are only two kinds of 12 players:
-Ones that only pick him to prove a point that you suck and troll the whole time.
-The unpredictable highly technical players with mastery of all his stupid bullshit. IAD, kara-UOH, max poke range, tick throws, his few actually good combos, etc. They may not always win, but they make you work for it…unless it’s against Urien, Yun and Elena. ggpo.
Well, to be fair, Twelve has the ability to turn into the worst character in the game. Granted, he can turn into the best one as well, but only a crippled version of her (no SA2). So basically, he can turn into a crippled version of sean.
